Background: Patient safety is a crucial indicator of health care quality. It is necessary to check the subjective perception of patient safety from the patient’s point of view as a consumer of healthcare services. To identify patients’ experiences of safety and the themes that constitute the patients’ feeling of safety during hospitalization. Methods: A qualitative study, comprising five focus group discussions (seven people each), was conducted in South Korea between May and July 2018. Patients who were hospitalized for at least three days within one year were included. Researchers analyzed the transcribed script, and a content analysis was performed to describe patients’ hospitalized experiences of safety. Results: A total of 35 patients with an average age of 45.4 years participated in the study, and had experience of hospitalization for up to 32 days. The findings revealed four core themes and 14 sub-themes. Patients wanted to take initiative in controlling his/her reception of information and wanted healthcare providers to make the patient feel safe. Patients felt safe when hospitals provided unstinted and generous support. Also, public sentiment about national healthcare and safety made an effect on patient safety sentiment. Conclusion: Patients felt safe during hospitalization not only because of the explanation, attitude, and professionalism of the healthcare providers but also because of the support, system, and procedure of the medical institution. Healthcare providers and medical institutions should strive to narrow the gap in patient safety awareness factors through activities with patients. Furthermore, the government and society should make an effort to create a safe medical environment and social atmosphere.

최근 기반시설관리법」시행(‘20.1월)에 따라 도로·철도·하천 등 기반시설(15종)의 노후화에 대비한 전략적 투자 및 관리방식 도입 기반 마련을 목적으로 국토안전관리원에서는 기반터 시스템을 도입하여 인프라 총조사 사업을 진행하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 하천 기반시설의 유지관리를 위한 감가상각 및 위험요소 등을 고려한 방법으로 잠재홍수위험도를 고려한 투자우선순위 평가 방법을 적용하여 하천 기반시설 유지관리를 위한 데이터베이스 설계 방안을 제안하고자 한다.

<P>Solid-phase epitaxy (SPE), a solid-state phase transition of materials from an amorphous to a crystalline phase, is a convenient crystal growing technique. In particular, SPE can be used to grow α-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> epitaxially with a novel structure that provides an effective substrate for improved performance of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). However, the inevitable two-step phase transformation through the γ-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> phase hinders the expected improved crystallinity of α-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, and thereby further enhancement of LED performance. Herein, we provide a fundamental understanding of the SPE growth mechanism from amorphous to metastable γ-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The nanobeam precession electron diffraction technique enabled clear visualization of the double-positioning domain distribution in the SPE γ-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> film and emphasized the need for careful selection of the viewing directions for any investigation of double-positioning domains. Void and stacking fault defects further investigated by high-resolution scanning TEM (STEM) analyses revealed how double-positioning domains and other SPE growth behaviors directly influence the crystallinity of SPE films. Additionally, DFT calculations revealed the origins of SPE growth behavior. The double-positioning γ-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> domains randomly nucleate from the α-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> substrate regardless of the α-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> termination layer, but the large energy requirement for reversal of the γ-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> stacking sequence prevents it from switching the domain type during the crystal growth. We expect that this study will be useful to improve the crystallinity of SPE γ- and α-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> films.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
Seed Dormancy and Germination of Caltha palustris Native to Korea

Caltha palustris is a perennial herb of alpine marshes. Studies about seed dormancy type and germination requirements provide useful information for understanding early life history and propagation protocol of C. palustris. The seeds had an underdeveloped embryo at the time of dispersal. The embryo/seed length ratio must be from 0.22 ± 0.014 to 0.75 ± 0.046 before seeds can germinate. Imbibed seeds of C. palustris were moved through the following two sequences: move A [5°C(12w) → 15/6°C(4w) → 20/10°C(4w) → 25/15°C(12w)], and move B [25/15°C(12w) → 20/10°C(4w) → 15/6°C(4w) → 5°C(12w)]. The seeds had average E:S ratio of 0.64 ± 0.07 and 0.44 ± 0.03 after 20 weeks of incubation at move A and move B, respectively. In seeds of move A, the critical E:S ratio approached after 16weeks of incubation at 15/6°C. Although the embryo growth occurred in move B, it did not reach to the critical length. Seeds treated with gibberellic acid (GA₃) of 0, 10, 100 or 1000 mg·L<SUP>-1</SUP> germinated to 0, 8, 51 and 80%, respectively, at 25/15°C after 4weeks of incubation. Embryos grew at temperatures suitable for warm stratification (15/6°C) after cold stratification. Since GA3 can break physiological dormancy, the seeds have non-deep simple morphophysiological dormancy.
