The healthy environment in which children are raised is severely threatened in a society of rapid technological growth. Moreover, with the birthrates decreasing, child protection in most countries has been emerging as one of the keenest issues from the newly started millennium. The Internet holds vast quantities of helpful information and also the Web holds great potential for further growth. However, as with any tool, it is also accompanied by negative effects. Especially, the internationalization and development of mobile technologies and Internet made it easy to spread child pornography between international borders or locales. Thus, the protection of children should be implemented not only on offline premises but also online. This thesis discusses problems pertaining to the regulation of child pornography as well as ways to change the present trend in order to protect children from child pornography prevalent in the cyber space which threatens the development of children.
[P079] Eosinophilic annular erythema associated with Churg-Strauss syndrome

Eosinophilic annular erythema (EAE) is a rare entity of unknown etiology characterized by annular erythematous plaques with tissue eosinophilia. Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) is a systemic granulomatous vasculitis characterized by peripheral eosinophilia and the infiltration of eosinophils into systemic organs. Herein, we report an interesting case of EAE associated with CSS. A 73-year-old man presented with asymptomatic plaques on the trunk first detected 2 days prior. The patient had a medical history of chronic kidney disease and asthma. Histopathological examination revealed exocytosis, basal vacuolar degeneration, and hyperpigmentation in the epidermis and diffuse perivascular and interstitial eosinophil infiltrations in the dermis. Based on these clinical and histopathological findings, he was diagnosed with EAE. Laboratory findings revealed an eosinophil count of 13,878/mm3 and anti-myeloperoxidase antibody (2.00 U/ml) and proteinase 3 antibody (4.58 U/ml) positivity. The patient also complained of pain and numbness of the lower extremities. An electrophysiologic nerve study revealed axonal-type sensorimotor polyneuropathy. These findings fulfilled the criteria for the diagnosis of CSS. Intravenous methylprednisolone 10 mg/kg for 3 days was administered with gradual tapering to 0.5 mg/kg over 2 months. The skin lesions resolved and blood eosinophil count returned to normal after 2 months of follow-up.

Mucormycosis is caused by fungi belonging to the order Mucorales and leads to non-suppurative necrosis and significant tissue damage. It predominates in immunocompromised patients with high risk factors. Although it is considered to be a rare infection, mucormycosis has emerged as the second most common invasive mould infection of skin. Herein, we report a typical case of mucormycosis infection arising in an old-aged patient with acute promyelocytic leukemia. A 77-year-old male presented with asymptomatic, multiple, 0.3 to 0.5 cm sized petechiaes with blackish crusts on the lower extremities for 1 month. He had been diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia 5 years ago, which had relapsed three times. He had re-induction chemotherapy 2 weeks ago. One week after the re-induction chemotherapy, he had fever, cough and dyspnea. Chest X-ray and CT showed fungal pneumonia and Rhizomucor species had grown in sputum culture. A skin biopsy specimen showed some broad, non-septate hyphaes in hematoxylin and eosin and Periodic acid-Schiff stains. Under the diagnosis of cutaneous fungal infection, the patient was treated with IV imipenem 2000 mg and aspofungin 50 mg for 2 weeks, but the lesion aggravated despite the therapy. Based on these results, he was diagnosed with disseminated fungal infection due to mucormycosis species. In spite of massive antifungal therapy, the patient expired due to respiratory failure.

<P>Short alpha/beta-peptides that consist of alternating L-a-amino acids and trans-2-aminocyclopentanecarboxylic acid are known to adopt both 11- and 14/15-helical conformations in solution. We report short alpha/beta-depsipeptides containing (S)-lactic acid as the third residue from the N-terminus. The alpha/beta-depsipeptide pentamers and heptamers adopt 14/15-helical conformations analogous to the a-helix in the crystal state and display 14/15-helical conformations predominantly in solution.</P>

<P>Metabolic engineering of cyanobacteria has received attention as a sustainable strategy to convert carbon dioxide to fatty acid-derived chemicals that are widely used in the food and chemical industries. Herein, Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942, a model cyanobacterium, was engineered for the first time to produce fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEEs) from CO2. Due to the lack of an endogenous ethanol production pathway and wax ester synthase (AftA) activity in the wild-type cyanobacterium, we metabolically engineered S. elongatus PCC 7942 by expressing heterologous AftA and introducing the ethanol pathway, resulting in detectable peaks of FAEEs. To enhance FREE production, a heterologous phosphoketolase pathway was introduced in the FAEE-producing strain to supply acetyl-CoA. Subsequent optimization of the cyanobacterial culture with a hexadecane overlay resulted in engineered S. elongatus PCC 7942 that produced photosynthetic FAEEs (10.0 +/- 0.7 mg/L/OD730) from CO2. This paper is the first report of photosynthetic production of FAEEs from CO2 in cyanobacteria.</P>
