4 roots of 2 year old ginseng were planted in a small pot trateing with fungal pathogens, Fusarium solani, nematodes isolated from the ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) cultured soil and the two mixed inoculum respectively. Rate of infestation and nematodes distributed around the harvested host plant after 40 days was investigated. To obtained results were as follows: Each group was treated with F. solani, nematodes and mixed inoculum showed higher disease index by infestation from 3.3 to 3.8 while control group was healthy showing lower disease index of 1.2. The nematodes identified were 4 genera in control group and F. Solani inoculated group. 11 genera of nematodes including Xiphinema spp were distributed in the nematodes inoculated pot, and their numbers were higher in the population. Especially Radophalus spp, Tylenchulus spp, Meloidogyne spp, Xiphinema spp and Ditylenchus spp were numerous in their population density, but Belonolimus spp and Hemicyciophora spp were lower. Fourteen genera of nematodes were distributed in the mixed inoculation pot than only the nematodes treated group. and also the population was higher in the mixed inoculation group. The more populated genera is number were Ditylenchus spp, Paratylenchus spp, Paratylenchus spp. Hemicycliophora spp, Meloidogyne spp, Helicotylenchus spp and Tylenchorhynchus spp, but Hirschmanniella spp was less in the population density.

Soil microorganisms antagonistic to Fusarium solani, plant pathogen were isolated from the soil, and used to investigate their control effects suppressive to ginseng root rot caused by F. solani. When both Pseudomonas cepacia and Bacillus cereus were introduced concurrently into F. solani-infested soil, and have been incubated for 270 days in the soil rhizosphere, the numbers of F. solani recorded 2.49(Log cfu/g soil) in the soil rhizosphere as compared with 4.33 of the control. When P. cepacia was introduced individually in the soil and has been incubated for 270 days in the soil rhizosphere, its antifungal activity for controlling disease development was extremely effective and recorded the disease index of 1.2 of as compared with 4.3 of the control. Among three arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, Glomus albidum was extremely low in their disease indice and reduced the disease index to 1.2 as compared with 4.3 of the control. Based on different pH values and nutrient sources of four culture media, the antifungal inhibition of P. cepacia indicated significant differences (p=0.05) among culture media. The numbers of P. cepacia were increased in proportion to the continuity of the incubation, whereas its antifungal activity began to be detected 32 days after the incubation. P. cepacia was observed to excrete a visibly yellow, strongly blue-white fluorescent color into the culture supernatant fluid, produce siderophores, fluorescent substances in the Fe-deficient succinate media, and exhibit the peak at 410nm in the range of absorption spectra. Due to such siderophores excreted, P. cepacia appears to control ginseng root rot caused by F. solani.

<P><B>Objective</B></P><P>Preoperative exposure to clopidogrel and aspirin significantly increases postoperative bleeding in patients undergoing on-pump coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Off-pump coronary bypass grafting has been proposed as an alternative technique to attenuate postoperative bleeding associated with clopidogrel. This study aimed to determine the effects of aspirin and clopidogrel therapy on perioperative blood loss and blood transfusion requirements in off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>One hundred six patients scheduled for off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting were divided into three groups: aspirin and clopidogrel discontinued more than 6 days before surgery (group 1, n = 35), aspirin and clopidogrel continued until 3 to 5 days before surgery (group 2, n = 51), and both medications continued within 2 days of surgery (group 3, n = 20). Thromboelastographic tracings were analyzed before induction of anesthesia. Routine coagulation profiles were measured before and after surgery. A cell salvage device was used during surgery and salvaged blood was reinfused. Chest tube drainage and blood transfusion requirement were recorded postoperatively.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Patient characteristics, operative data, and thromboelastographic tracings were similar among the groups. There were significant decreases in hematocrit level and platelet count and prolongation in prothrombin time postoperatively in all groups without any intergroup differences. The amounts of perioperative blood loss and blood transfusion required were all similar among the groups.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>Preoperative clopidogrel and aspirin exposure even within 2 days of surgery does not increase perioperative blood loss and blood transfusion requirements in patients undergoing elective off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting.</P>

New lipophilic Crown-4 compounds of 16-membered rings containing furan (neutral carrier,I), tetrahydrofuran (neutral carrier,II) and lithium complex of the latter (neutral carrier,III) have been synthesized and tested as the active sensors for lithium ion in poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) membrane electrode, in the presence and absence of an anion excluder, tetrakis(4-chloro-phenyl)borate (KTClPB), 2-nitrophenyl phenyl ether (NPPE), tris(2-ethylhexyl)phosphate (TEHP), o-nitrophenyl octyl ether (NPOE), dioctyl adipate (DOA), bis(2-ethylhexyl)adipate (BEHA), di-n-octylphenyl phosphonate (DOPP) were used as plasticizing solvent mediators. The electrode response function had a nearly Nernstian slope of 54-61 mV per decade (25$^{\circ}$C) within the concentration range of $10^{-1}-10^{-4}$ M LiCl and the detection limits for all electrodes were ca. $5{\times}10^{-4}$ M. The response time of the electrode was faster at the higher lithium concentration and the response of the electrode was stable for longer than 6 months. The sensor membranes exhibit improved response times and increased lifetimes as compared to the system described earlier.
