Measurement of the lepton forward-backward asymmetry inB→Xsℓ+ℓ−decays with a sum of exclusive modes

<P>We report the first measurement of the lepton forward-backward asymmetry A(FB) as a function of the squared four-momentum of the dilepton system, q(2), for the electroweak penguin process B -> X(s)l(+)l(-) with a sum of exclusive final states, where l is an electron or a muon and X-s is a hadronic recoil system with an s quark. The results are based on a data sample containing 772 x 10(6) B (B) over bar pairs recorded at the gamma (4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) collider. A(FB) for the inclusive B -> X(s)l(+)l(-) is extrapolated from the sum of 10 exclusive X-s states whose invariant mass is less than 2 GeV/c(2). For q(2) > 10.2 GeV2/c(2), A(FB) < 0 is excluded at the 2.3 sigma level, where sigma is the standard deviation. For q(2) < 4.3 GeV2/c(2), the result is within 1.8 sigma of the standard model theoretical expectation.</P>

This paper describes a hardware structure and a communication system of a multiple autonomous robots system. Many studies have been devoted to the development of a single autonomous robot. It is, however, also necessary to investigate decentralized multiple autonomous robots system in order to make wider use of such robots. We have been studying a multiple autonomous robots system employing two mobile robots. In this paper, problems are overviewed on the developed multiple autonomous robots system from the viewpoint of hardware and communication, and an improved system is presented, which employs a new control strategy of a mobile robot and realizes reliable data communication between host computers.

<P>We report on the magnetic susceptibility, specific heat and electrical resistivity of the heavy fermion compounds CeNiGe<SUB>2−<I>x</I></SUB>Si<SUB><I>x</I></SUB> (<img ALIGN='MIDDLE' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/images/0953-8984/16/46/018/cm185233ieqn1.gif' ALT='0\leq x \leq 1 '/>). Compounds with <I>x</I><1 show antiferromagnetic order, which with increasing <I>x</I> shifts toward lower temperature owing to increased exchange coupling between the localized 4f magnetic moments and conduction electrons. Eventually, the magnetic order almost becomes absent, for <I>x</I> = 1. An anomaly observed in the specific heat is well interpreted by the Kondo model for a degenerate impurity spin <I>J</I> = 1/2 in the Coqblin–Schrieffer limit. A coherence peak indicative of the formation of a Kondo lattice is found in the electrical resistivity, whose features are consistent with the results for the specific heat. Interestingly, there is a significant deviation from Fermi-liquid behaviour at the critical concentration <I>x</I> = 1. This deviation is attributed to a quantum phase transition in a model with two-dimensional antiferromagnetic fluctuations.</P>

A voltage-control spintronics memory (VoCSM) which has a potential of low energy consumption uses the spin-Hall effect (SHE) and the voltage-controlled magnetic anisotropy (VCMA) effect for its write operation. In this work, the relationship between the critical switching current (Icsw) and the SHE electrode thickness (tN) is investigated in the range of 5 nm < tN < 8 nm. In the fabrication process, we develop highly-selective patterning process to stop MTJ etching precisely on the surface of the SHE electrode. Using the technique, Icsw is reduced by half as tN is varied from 8 nm to 5 nm, and Icsw of 112 mA at 20 ns write current pulse is obtained for MTJ size of 50 × 150 nm2 on Ta(2 nm)/TaB (3 nm) electrode. The results indicate that the decrease in the SHE electrode thickness is a promised method to reduce Icsw, which leads VoCSM to a low-energy-consumption device.
Thermal Stress Measurement in Steel Plate Strengthened by CFRP and Aluminum Alloy Plates

In steel members strengthened by carbon-fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) plates, the thermal stresses are introduced in the steel members, the CFRP plates and the adhesive layers when temperature changes because the linear thermal expansion coefficients of steel and CFRP are mismatched. As so far, the authors proposed a technique to reduce the thermal stress in steel members strengthened by CFRP plates, which involves bonding aluminum alloy plates with CFRP plates. In the proposed method, the thermal stress in steel member can be reduced so that there are negligible levels of stress in steel member when the cross sectional areas of CFRP and aluminum plates are designed to correspond to the coefficient of thermal expansion of steel, even though the thermal stresses are introduced in the CFRP and aluminum plates. In this study, to confirm the maintaining the thermal stress reduction in steel member by proposed method, thermal stress measurement in steel plate strengthened by CFRP and aluminum plates was carried out about 21 months. In this research, the thermal stress introduced in the steel plate strengthened by CFRP plates was also measured. Furthermore, to assume the thermal shear and normal (peel) stresses in adhesive layers, FE analysis with plane stress element was employed. As the result, it was shown the thermal stresses in steel plate with CFRP plate were able to calculate by using composite theory and measured temperature. Furthermore, in steel plate strengthened by CFRP and aluminum plates, the thermal stress introduced in steel plate was negligible-small through the all-season. It was found the thermal stresses in steel plate with CFRP plates as well as CFRP and aluminum plates were also estimated by using composite theory and measured temperature. In the steel plate strengthened by CFRP and aluminum plates, the thermal shear and normal stresses in adhesive layer glued to steel plate become smaller than that in the conventional CFRP bonded specimen. However, the shear stress in adhesive layers between CFRP and aluminum plates in proposed method was higher than the thermal stress in adhesive layers between CFRP plates in conventional method.
Evidence for Isospin Violation and Measurement of CP Asymmetries in B→K*(892)γ

<P>We report the first evidence for isospin violation in B -> K*gamma and the first measurement of the difference of CP asymmetries between B+->.K*(+)gamma and B-0 -> K-*0 gamma. This analysis is based on the data sample containing 772 x 10(6)BB pairs that was collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e(+)e(-) collider. We find evidence for the isospin violation with a significance of 3.1 sigma, Delta(0+) = [+6.2 +/- 1.5(stat) +/- 0.6(syst) +/- 1.2(f (+-)/f(00))] %, where the third uncertainty is due to the uncertainty on the fraction of B+B- to (BB0)-B-0 production in gamma(4S) decays. The measured value is consistent with predictions of the standard model. The result for the difference of CP asymmetries is Delta A(CP) = [+2.4 +/- 2.8(stat) +/- 0.5(syst)] %, consistent with zero. The measured branching fractions and CP asymmetries for charged and neutral B meson decays are the most precise to date. We also calculate the ratio of branching fractions of B-0 -> K-*0 gamma to B-s(0) -> phi gamma.</P>

We designed a voltage-control spintronics memory unit-cell, VoCSM, with high write-efficiency to prove a potential to reduce writing energy per bit. By optimizing a self-aligned structure, the cell has the critical switching current (Icsw) smaller than 50 μA at 20 nsec. for designed MTJ size of about 50 × 150 ㎚². The value is much smaller than that for mature STT-MRAM with the similar dimension. VoCSM also was proved to have unlimited endurance. Finally, with an empirical equation of Icsw further reduction of Icsw is estimated to clarify that VoCSM has a potential to reduce Icsw down to several μA.
