A Survey Study of Audiology Services during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic in South Korea

Purpose: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has severely affected public health and people’s lifestyle. The purpose of this survey study is to investigate audiology services during COVID-19 pandemic to understand the current audiology service situations in Korea and to improve audiology services. Methods: A total of 120 participants (60 audiologists and 60 clients visiting audiologists) were surveyed in this study using online or face-to-face methods. The participants answered 24~25 questions including current status of audiology service, communication difficulties with wearing masks, and the provision of tele-audiology services during COVID-19. Results: The results showed that both audiologists and clients with hearing loss still preferred face-to-face audiology services in COVID-19 situation in spite of 56% of visiting schedule delay and cancellation. The primary audiology services they considered in COVID-19 were hearing aid fitting and maintenance & repair services. Wearing masks has led communication difficulties in both audiologists and clients with hearing loss due to speech level reduction, frequency filtering of sounds, and insufficient visual cues during the conversation. Only 30% of audiologists have provided tele-audiology services, and 4.4% of clients received tele-audiology services during COVID-19. Conclusion: The impacts of COVID-19 in audiology services in South Korea are still progressing. The technical and administrative systems and educational support to improve audiology services in South Korea are necessary.
GPS L5 Acquisition Schemes for Fast Code Detection and Improved Doppler Accuracy

In this letter, we propose GPS L5 acquisition schemes to detect a fast code phase and improve the accuracy of the Doppler frequency. The proposed approach is based on the code-phase changes which occur during the acquisition processing time originating in the Doppler frequency. The proposed schemes detect a fast code phase within about 1 chip near the estimated code phase and improve the accuracy of the Doppler frequency by up to about 4 times in comparison with the popular Septentrio receiver. The feasibility of the proposed schemes is demonstrated through simulation.
E1 Acquisition and Tracking of The First Four Galileo IOV Satellites in Korea

Galileo system is being under the in-orbit validation(IOV) and and its constellation consists of Proto Flight Model (PFM) and Flight Model 2 (FM2) launched in October 2011 and FM3 and FM4 launched in October 2012. The researchers of the NAVIS Centre and the European Space Agency (ESA) have announced the signal tracking of all the four satellites and the first determination of a ground location, respectively. This paper for the first time, presents E1 acquisition and tracking results using our own receiver after receiving the signals of all the four Galileo satellites at the same time, in Korea. The simulation results show that the SW based Galileo E1 receiver of ETRI successfully processes the signals of all the four Galileo satellites.
Development and Test of GPS Interference Monitoring System

GPS is widely used in the location based service and the telematics service. And communication systems, electrical power grids, and financial networks also rely on GPS for synchronization and operational efficiency. GPS applications are newly being developed and becomes very critical infrastructure. However, GPS couldn’t be used by intentional interference signal of even low power, low cost transmitters. In order to prevent the damage caused by illegal interference signal to GPS, GPS interference monitoring system(IMS) should be developed and operated. So, this paper presents the development and the test results of the GPS IMS which provides the detection, the direction finding and the location of GPS interference signal. The main functions are verified by test results of the interference test-bed environment.
