<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The failure mechanism of LiCoO<SUB>2</SUB> electrode at moderately elevated temperature (70 °C) is examined. To this end, a Li/LiCoO<SUB>2</SUB> cell is cycled 10 times within 3.0–4.3 V (<I>vs</I>. Li/Li<SUP>+</SUP>) to deposit a surface film on the LiCoO<SUB>2</SUB> electrode, followed by storage at 70 °C for 10 h. The charge/discharge cycling data obtained at 25 °C after the storage reveal that the cell is damaged by the storage. The Coulombic efficiency decreases because the charging capacity is larger than that observed before the storage. The increased charging capacity is due to electrolyte oxidation. The postmortem analyses of the stored electrodes show that the surface film on the LiCoO<SUB>2</SUB> electrode becomes thinner after storage and with a notable compositional change compared to before storage. The increased charging capacity after the storage can be attributed to the extra electrolyte oxidation on the damaged (thinned) LiCoO<SUB>2</SUB> electrode surface. The loss of passivating ability due to surface film damage is responsible for the extra electrolyte oxidation and poorer Coulombic efficiency. Meanwhile, the chemical composition of the damaged film is very similar to that of the surface film stored with added hydrogen fluoride (HF, 400 ppm) in the electrolyte. It is thus suggested that the surface film is damaged by attack of HF generated from LiPF<SUB>6</SUB> during the high-temperature storage. Evidently, a decrease of LiPF<SUB>6</SUB> concentration in the electrolyte mitigates the film damage and the associated electrode degradation.</P>

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine whether a higher Injury Severity Score (ISS) could serve as an indicator of splenectomy in patients with traumatic splenic lacerations. Methods: A total of 256 cases of splenic laceration were collected from January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2018. After the application of exclusion criteria, 105 were eligible for this study. Charts were reviewed for demographic characteristics, initial vital signs upon presentation to the emergency room, Glasgow Coma Scale, computed tomography findings, ISS, and treatment strategies. The cases were then divided into nonsplenectomy and splenectomy groups for analysis.Results: When analyzed with the chi-square test and t-test, splenectomy was associated with a systolic blood pressure lower than 90 mmHg, a Glasgow Coma Scale score lower than 13, active bleeding found on computed tomography, a splenic laceration grade greater than or equal to 4, and an ISS greater than 15 at presentation. However, in multivariate logistic regression analysis, only active bleeding on computed tomography showed a statistically significant relationship (P=0.014).Conclusions: Although ISS failed to show a statistically significant independent relationship with splenectomy, it may still play a supplementary role in traumatic splenic injury management.
Coating of an antimicrobial peptide on solid substrate via initiated chemical vapor deposition

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We developed a simple and efficient method for the immobilization of a potent AMP (SHAP1) on the surface of solid supports via initiated chemical vapor deposition (iCVD). The surface of the slide glass was functionalized with vinyl-containing polymer by iCVD, and Cys-linked SHAP1 peptides could be immobilized on the functionalized surface (glass and latex glove) via simple thiol-ene click chemistry with high efficiency. The antimicrobial efficacy of the immobilized peptides was investigated against two typical pathogenic bacteria — <I>Escherichia coli</I> and <I>Staphylococcus aureus</I> — and it was revealed that SHAP1-GS-Cys exhibited high antibacterial efficacy (>96%).</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P>The germano-silicate optical fiber incorporated with Ge nanoparticles with enhanced optical nonlinearity was developed by using modified chemical vapor deposition and drawing processes. A broad photoluminescence band obtained by pumping with the 404 nm superluminescent diode was found to appear from 540 nm to 1,000 nm. The non-resonant nonlinear refractive index, n(2), of the fiber measured by the continuous wave self-phase modulation method was 4.95 x 10(-20) m(2)/W due to the incorporated Ge nanoparticles in the fiber core. The enhancement of the non-resonant optical nonlinearity may be due to the creation of the NBOs and other defects from the incorporated Ge-NPs in the fiber core.</P>
깊이 영상 부호화에서 컬러 정보에 기반한 빠른 스킵 모드 선택 기법

3차원 영상을 구성하는 방식에는 여러 가지가 있다. 그 중에서 다시점-깊이 영상은 기존의 다시점 컬러영상과 다시점 깊이 영상으로 구성되어있다. 그에 따라 데이터의 양이 많고 부호화하는데 시간이 많이 든다는 문제점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 깊이 영상 부호화 시 컬러 영상의 부호화 정보를 적용하여 부호화 속도를 개선하는 방법을 제안한다. 화면 간 예측 부호화 과정에서 각 프레임은 다수의 스킵 모드를 이용한다. 이점에 착안하여 컬러 영상이 스킵 모드를 이용하여 부호화한 경우 깊이 영상에도 스킵 모드를 적용한다. 만약 컬러 영상이 스킵 모드를 사용하지 않은 경우에는 왜곡-율 비용을 이용하여 스킵 모드를 적용할지를 판단한다. 제안한 기법을 적용하여 실험한 결과 기존 기법과 비교하여 평균 64%의 속도를 개선하였고 화질의 차이도 거의 없었다. There are many ways to configure a 3D video. Among them, Multiview video is composed of the Multiview color video and the depth video. Because the amount of data to be encoded, it can cause the encoding time problems. In this paper, a new technique which shortens the time of encoding 3D videos by using the correlation of depth video with color video will be introduced. During the encoding process, the skip mode correlation is used. If the color encoding mode is skip, then skip mode coding is applied to the depth video process. To preserve the quality of video, when applied, the RD cost is employed to determine whether or not to apply the techniques. The proposed method is applied to the reference software. The experimental results of the encoding rate were improved by approximately average 64%. Furthermore, there is little difference in quality compared with the reference software.
