We have prepared 5 solvent fractions from red ginseng; petroleum ether(GP), diethyl ether (PE), ethyl acetate(GA), n-butanol(GB) and water(GW) fractions, and isolated three polyacetylenes from GP and GE; panaxynol(PN), panaxydol(PD) and panaxytriol(PT). GP, GE and PN potentiated the cytotoxicity of fluorouracil(5-FU) against A549 by 33%, 36% and 29%, respectively. The cytotoxicity of tamoxifen(TMX) against the same was enhanced by GP and PT by 46% and 27%, PN, PD and PT increase the cytotoxicity of mitomycin C by 20%, 18% and 28%, respectively. GP, GE and PD potentiated the cytotoxicity of adriamycin by 27%, 29% and 22%, respectively. GE and PD increased the cytotoxicity of tamoxifen against SK-OV-3 by 25% and 17%. There was evidence that other cytotoxicity-potentiating substances exist in GP and GE.

Based on their respective antitumor and thrombolytic activities, the superantigen staphylococcal enterotoxin C2 (SEC2) and staphylokinase (Sak) were chosen for the construction of the novel chimeric proteins Sak-linker- SEC2 and SEC2-linker-Sak using a linker composed of nine Ala residues. Both chimeric proteins possessed nearly the same PBMC proliferation stimulating activity and antitumor activity as SEC2 and thrombolytic activity as Sak. Neither the SEC2 or Sak component of each chimeric protein affected the activity of the other component. The results presented in this study provide a possible strategy to prevent and cure tumor thrombus.

A strongly cytotoxic fraction (Fc-2, ED50=0.0003mcg/ml) against L1210 cell was obtained from the root, seed and fruit of Trichosanthes kirilowii. Administration of Fc-2 prolonged the life span of the BDF1 mice bearing L1210 and the ICR mice bearing S-180 by 135% and 130%, respectively. The Fc-2 affected L1210 cells were enlarged in their diameters two or three times in comparison with the untreated ones. When 20mg/kg of Fc-2 was administered, intraperitoneally, all the mice were killed.

In this paper, we present our study about the optimization of the block matching algorithm on a VLIW based DSP. The block matching algorithm is well known for its computational burden in motion picture encoding. As supposed to the previous researches where the optimization is achieved by optimizing SAD, the most heavy routine of the block matching, we optimize the block matching algorithm by applying software pipelining technique to the whole routine of the algorithm. Through experiments, the efficiency of the proposed optimization is verified.

Recently, the digital circuit technique has had great success and gained importance in all industries. For the measurment of degree of freshness of plant and animal's tissue, many devices has been developed. But it's data was inacurate and it had difficulty in making database because it was depend on analog circuit technique. The purpose of this paper is the developement of a device based on digital circuit for measurement of freshness degree of wet fish such that its accuracy is very trustworty and it can be measured in a short time. The device is developed by using micro-computer with some interface modules of A-D/D-A converter and digital circuit with IC modules and its effectiveness has been evaluated through two experimental results of electrical Q-value test and chemical K-value test.

This study aims to test applicability of the Interface Hypothesis (Sorace & Tsimpli, 2006) in L2 through investigating L2 acquisition of Chinese Wh-Words as Existential Polarity Words (hence force EPWs) by L1 Korean speakers. The present study compares the results of the acceptability judgment test of Chinese EPWs between learner group and native speaker group to investigate 1. Are the interface properties concerning Chinese EPWs and their licensors acquirable by Korea-speaking learners of Chinese? 2. If not, what are the linguistic or non-linguistic effects which cause the interface breakdown? The results show that L2 Chinese learners are unable to establish a complete semantics-syntax relationship with the EPW embedded in the sentence, even at the final state of L2 acquisition. And the results also show that L2 Chinese acquisition is not linear development.
