A simple and effective procedure for conversion of primary, secondary, allylic and benzylic alcohols into the corresponding iodides is described using $CeCl_3{\cdot}7H_2O/NaI\;over\;SiO_2$ under microwave irradiation. Benzylic alcohols are selectively converted in the presence of saturated alcohols into their corresponding benzylic iodides under these conditions.

Myrtus communis L. aerial parts have been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of inflammatory disease. In this study 350 mice were divided into three main groups:negative (saline), positive (morphine or diclofenac) controls, and test groups. The acute toxicity was assessed for 2 days. Antinociceptive activity was performed using hot plate and writhing tests. The anti-inflammatory effect was investigated using xylene-induced ear edema and a cotton pellet test. According to phytochemical screening, the extracts contained tannins, alkaloids, and flavonoids. The LD50 values of the aqueous and ethanolic extracts were 0.473 and 0.79 g/kg, respectively. In hot plate test, the aqueous and ethanolic extracts showed significant antinociceptive activity that was inhibited by naloxone. The extracts exhibited antinociceptive activity against acetic acideinduced writhing and also showed significant activity against acute inflammation which was dose dependent for aqueous extract. The ethanolic (0.05 g/kg) and aqueous extracts (0.005,0.015, and 0.03 g/kg) demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects against chronic inflammation. The aqueous and ethanolic extracts of the aerial parts of M communis L. showed antinociceptive effects and these may be mediated by opioid receptors.
PAPR reduction in OFDM systems: An efficient PTS approach based on particle swarm optimization

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a multicarrier modulation technique for high-speed data transmission in wireless communications. In an OFDM system, a large number of subcarriers are used to transmit the modulated symbols and consequently, the OFDM signals have a high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). To reduce the high PAPR, we propose a partial transmit sequence (PTS) method based on the adaptive particle swarm optimization. Also, the proposed method efficiently search the optimal combination of phase rotation factors to decrease the computational complexity. Experimental results show that the proposed method significantly has reduced the PAPR and computational complexity.

The receptor of vitamin D is expressed in almost all body cells, including vascular endothelial cells and cardiomyocytes. Vitamin D deficiency has been observed widespread amongst heart failure (HF) patients, which could have harmful effects on their health condition. This study aims to investigate the effect of vitamin D supplements on blood pressure (BP) and physical activity of HF patients. Thirty-nine systolic HF patients with low ejection fraction (EF) < 50% and class III of New York Heart Association functional classification were randomly divided into 2 groups including intervention and placebo to enroll in an 8 weeks double-blind clinical trial. During the trial 6-minute walk test (6MWT), 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) level, BP, sodium and potassium intakes were assessed. The mean 25(OH)D level increased to 28.9 ± 11.7 ng/mL (p < 0.001) in the intervention group. There was a poor but non-significant reduction in systolic BP (-0.033 ± 4.71 mmHg, p = 0.531) in the intervention group. The BP also did not change in the placebo group at the end of the trial. A negligible decrease of 6MWT was observed in the intervention group (-6.6 ± 29.2 m) compared to the placebo (-14.1 ± 40.5 m). However, differences between the 2 groups were not statistically significant (p = 0.325). The results solely showed a slight positive correlation between 25(OH)D level and 6MWT. No significant improvements in BP and 6MWT were observed after vitamin D3 supplementation.
Plasma Optimization in a Multicusp Ion Source by Using a Monte Carlo Simulation

A Monte Carlo simulation code has been developed to optimize the number of magnets confiningthe plasma in the H- multicusp ion source. This code improves the existing drawbacks in the particlestudio CST program and predicts the lifetime of primary electrons and the effects of collisions ofelectrons and hydrogen gas atoms. In this simulation are found 12 cusps to provide the highestplasma intensity in our configuration. Finally, our developed code is validated by simulating theexperimentally-tested KSTAR ion-source configuration and semi-empirical equation.
Effect of Aqueous and Ethanolic Extracts of Pimpinella anisum L. Seeds on Milk Production in Rats

Pimpinella anisum L. (P. anisum) is used as a galactagogue in traditional medicine; hence, the effect of aqueous and ethanolic extracts of P. anisum seeds on milk production in rats was evaluated. The milk production was assessed by measuring the pups’ weights during the suckling period. The intraperitoneal LD 50 values of P. anisum aqueous and ethanolic extracts were 4.93 and 3.77 g/kg, respectively. The aqueous (1 g/kg) and ethanolic ex- tracts (1 g/kg) increased the milk production significantly (p < 0.001), with about 68.1% and 81% more milk being produced, respectively, than in the control group. The pups gained weight during the study period with the aqueous (0.5 and 1 g/kg, p < 0.05) and ethanolic (0.5 and 1 g/kg, p < 0.01) extracts. Thus, P. anisum aqueous and ethanolic extracts can increase milk production in rats.
Investigation of zinc absorption in contaminated soil using tree species

Phytoremediation is a kind of technology based on the use of plants in removing contaminants, including heavy metals, which is cheap and environmentally compatible. In this research, the ability of Acer velutinum for phytoremediation of zinc element was reviewed. A. velutinum seedlings were prepared, zinc metal concentrations of 0, 10, 20 and 40 mg/kg of soil were added to the pot's soils after calculation and after two time periods of 45 days of the seedlings growth, roots and shoots were separated. The amount of zinc metal concentration was determined in the samples and the data were reviewed. The results showed that the amount of zinc concentration in all the organs was logical. The amount of zinc concentration in the second time period was more than the first time period. Based on the researches, this species can be appropriate for refining zinc metal-polluted soils.
