Cytotoxicity Mediated by Deuterium Oxide in Urological Cancer Cells

Deuterium oxide (D₂O, heavy water) is a moderator in nuclear reactors and has the cytotoxic effects on various cancer cells, depending on their origin. We studied the cytotoxic effects .of the morphological changes and proliferation patterns for the urological cancer cells lines, the renal cancer cell lines A-498, the prostate cancer cell lines DU-145, and the bladder cancer cell lines T-24, mediated with 25 and 50% D₂0 mixtures in pure water. These were studied with different concentrations of D20 in the search for a new modality of treatment. T-24 showed a marked reduction in cells at both low and high concentrations of D20. DU-145 showed mild proliferation in the beginning and became cytostatic in the later stages at low concentrations of D20, but at a high concentration, the number of cells DU-145 was constantly reduced. A-498 showed constant reduction at both low and high concentration less than T-24. Morphologically, some of the cells showed condensation of chromatic material around the periphery of the nucleus, and increased vacuolization of the cytoplasm suggesting apoptosis. And, other cells showed haziness and irregularity of the outline of the cell which interruption indicates necrosis. We concluded that there is the cytotoxicity mediated with the concentrations of D20 in urological cancer in which induces by both apoptosis and necrosis.

Biometric techniques for authentication using body parts such as a fingerprint, face, iris, voice, finger-vein and also photoplethysmography have become increasingly important in the personal security field, including door access control, finance security, electronic passport, and mobile device. Finger-vein images are now used to human identification, however, difficulties in recognizing finger-vein images are caused by capturing under various conditions, such as different temperatures and illumination, and noise in the acquisition camera. The human photoplethysmography is also important signal for human identification. In this paper To increase the recognition rate, we develop camera based identification method by combining finger vein image and photoplethysmography signal. We use a compact CMOS camera with a penetrating infrared LED light source to acquire images of finger vein and photoplethysmography signal. In addition, we suggest a simple pattern matching method to reduce the calculation time for embedded environments. The experimental results show that our simple system has good results in terms of speed and accuracy for personal identification compared to the result of only finger vein images.

Recently as the manufacturers want competitiveness in dynamically changing environment, they are trying a lot of efforts to be efficient with their production systems, which may be achieved by diminishing unplanned operation stops. The operation stops and maintenance cost are known to be significantly decreased by adopting proper maintenance strategy. Therefore, the manufacturers were more getting interested in scheduling of exact maintenance scheduling to keep smooth operation and prevent unexpected stops. In this paper, we proposedan integrated maintenance approach in injection molding manufacturing line. It consists of predictive and preventive maintenance approach. The predictive maintenance uses the statistical process control technique with the real-time data and the preventive maintenance is based on the checking period of machine components or equipment. For the predictive maintenance approach, firstly, we identified components or equipment that are required maintenance, and then machine parameters that are related with the identified components or equipment. Second, we performed regression analysis to select the machine parameters that affect the quality of the manufactured products and are significant to the quality of the products. By this analysis, we can exclude the insignificant parameters from monitoring parameters and focus on the significant parameters. Third, we developed the statistical prediction models for the selected machine parameters. Current models include regression,exponential smoothing and so on. We used these models to decide abnormal patternand to schedule maintenance. Finally, for other components or equipment which is not covered by predictive approach, we adoptedpreventive maintenance approach. To show feasibility we developed an integrated maintenance support system in LabView Watchdog Agent and SQL Server environment and validated our proposed methodology with experimental data.
