Study on UDP/IP for Broadband Satellite Communications

As we are aiming to perform huge data transmission via Communications Satellites(GEO or HEOs) from mobbing ambulance, so we designed and fabricated a quasi- satellite prototype (digital transponder) for ground-based communications experiments. The experimental results obtained indicate that TCP/IP is not suitable for satellite-based communications accompanied by delays during packet handshaking. One solution to this problem is to use UDP, as indicated by an experiment employing the prototype of the IP-based quasi-satellite.
Using 3D maps as mobile communication profiles and for ambulatory applications

A communication profile is a system that acquires information from communications links to an ambulance or other vehicle moving on a road and compiles a database based on this information. This system then predicts the communication links that will be available at a given location. For line-of-sight communication, optical analysis allows approximation if the frequency is sufficiently high. For non-line-of-sight communication, previously obtained electric power data can be used as reference information for approximations in certain cases when combined with predicted values calculated based on a 3D map. 3D maps are more effective than 2D maps for landing emergency medical helicopters on public roadways in the event of a disaster. Using advanced imaging technologies, we have produced a prototype of a high-precision 3D map of Yokohama Yamashita Park and vicinity and assessed its effectiveness. This paper discusses this prototype 3D map and its applications.
Communications Protocol Used in the Wireless Token Rings for Bird-to-Bird

We developed a multicast communication packet radio protocol using a time-sharing tablet system ("wireless token ring") to achieve the efficient exchange of files among packet radio terminals attached to swans. This paper provides an overview of the system and the protocol of the packet communications. The packet device forming the main part of the transceiver developed is the Texas Instruments CC2500. This device consists of one call-up channel and one data transmission channel and could improve error frame correction using FEC (forward error correction) with 34.8 kbps MSK and receiving power of at least -64 dBm (output 1 dBm at distance of 200 m using 3 dBi antenna). A time-sharing framework was determined for the wireless token ring using call sign ordinals to prevent transmission right loss. Tests using eight stations showed that resend requests with the ARQ (automatic repeat request) system are more frequent for a receiving power supply of -62 dBm or less. A wireless token ring system with fixed transmission times is more effective. This communication protocol is useful in cases in which frequency resources are limited; the energy consumed is not dependent on the transmission environment (preset transmission times); multiple terminals are concentrated in a small area; and information (position data and vital data) is shared among terminals under circumstances in which direct communication between a terminal and the center is not possible. The method allows epidemiological predictions of avian influenza infection routes based on vital data and relationships among individual birds based on the network topology recorded by individual terminals. This communication protocol is also expected to have applications in the formation of multiple in vivo micromachines or terminals that are inserted into living organisms.

We calculate the number of channels necessary for satellite communications to support the early-stage telemedicine after major disasters. Medical data acquired from the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake (Kobe Earthquake) is used for the calculations of Erlang B formula The minimum 29 channel shall be necessary to cover nationwide after major disaster.
Light-Reflex Measurements Implemented with Laplacian Filter

We summarize herein the results of research and development concerning a compact light-reflex pupillometer designed for use in emergency vehicles. Conventional methods of analog pupillary light reflex examinations performed in emergency vehicles are associated with errors that result In inaccurate measurements of changes in pupil size. To establish a simple method for quantifying nervous function in prehospital care, we applied an image processing technique based on the Laplace transform for video images captured by a CCD camera. This method produces more accurate measurements of rates of change in pupil size. While this method can be used to assess both direct and consensual light reflexes, we focused in our study on developing a direct light reflex measuring instrument because this choice presents greater technical challenges and offers the potential for a device of significantly smaller dimensions. The performance of the prototype was determined to be satisfactory. Personnel in emergency vehicles equipped with this pupillometer should be able to form objective assessments of pupil contraction rates before arrival at the hospital. We believe this pupillometer will prove useful in primary care and in selecting appropriate destination hospitals by facilitating patient assessments performed during transport, including neurological evaluations, assessments of consciousness, and confirmation of medical history items such as dementia or diabetes.
Study on New Ku-band Data Collection Satellite to Track Avian Influenza

This paper intends to point out some problem of telemetry for wild birds and future technical expectations to prevent Avian Influenza. For medium to large migratory birds, the data collection system aboard the NOAA meteorological satellites (the ARGOS system) has been able to map their migratory routes. However, recommended C/No for Doppler shift ill be 54㏈㎐, while calculated required C/No for 400 bps data uplink is 36㏈㎐. The gap between navigation function and data communication will be almost 18 ㏈. The bird has to pay this overload. We would like to propose the next generation digital transponder that is an advanced DCS with multi beam on Ku-band to perform the onboard processing (DCS and navigation system with Doppler shift). In case of 40㏈i antenna of the spacecraft, the ground terminal with 0㏈m RF-output and 2.25㏈i antenna (0.5㎝ in size) can transmit upto 50 bps with BPSK. This terminal attached with a leg of a bird will be suitable for a dove or a gull in size.

This paper deals with actual optical data in the urban and sub-urban area of Japan that captured with Fisheye camera and 6 Hi-vision cameras, simultaneously data of the receiving power density from the mobile communications satellite on Ku-band. We have analyzed the both data, and its models to predict propagation for the broadband communication of the land mobile satellite service(LMSS). We are aiming to create such profile database based on actual optical data to detect a line-of-sight propagation (Nakagami-Rician fading) and to transmit huge data to support telemedicine on ambulance.

This manuscript reviews effective usage of satellite communications for telemedicine during disasters. The imperativeness of satellite telecommunication infrastructure will be addressed by using data obtained from disaster cases in Japan. First, the validity of mobile phone usage as a tool for supporting medical treatment in the aftermath of disasters is considered. Secondly, numbers of channels necessary for satellite communications in disasters medicine are being simulated and proposed.
Analysis on Pathos for Elderly Patient’s Care

In this paper, we intend to report the idea of sharing pathos via broadband circuit to care elderly patient. We have performed several experiment and confirmed their reaction with the huge display system. It is a small in size of virtual reality environment of CAVE. We believe that the pathos element might be very important to care elderly patient at home via broadband communication circuit.

A simulation of the animal and the insect (Metaheuristics) is a set of concepts that can be used to define heuristic methods that can be applied to a wide set of different problems. In other words, Metaheuristics can be seen as a general algorithmic framework which can be applied to different optimization problems with relatively few modifications to make them adapted to a specific problem. We apply the ant's Metaheuristics for Search and Rescue System with ETS-Ⅷ satellite.
