Pokkah Boeng is a serious disease of sugarcane, which can lead to devastating yield losses in crop-producing regions, including southern China. However, there is still uncertainty about the causal agent of the disease. Our aim was to isolate and characterize the pathogen through morphological, physiological, and molecular analyses. We isolated sugarcane-colonizing fungi in Fujian, China. Isolated fungi were first assessed for their cell wall degrading enzyme capabilities, and five isolates were identified for further analysis. Internal transcribed spacer sequencing revealed that these five strains are Fusarium, Alternaria, Phoma, Phomopsis, and Epicoccum. The Fusarium isolate was further identified as F. verticillioides after Calmodulin and EF-$1{\alpha}$ gene sequencing and microscopic morphology study. Pathogenicity assay confirmed that F. verticillioides was directly responsible for disease on sugarcane. Co-inoculation of F. verticillioides with other isolated fungi did not lead to a significant difference in disease severity, refuting the idea that other cellulolytic fungi can increase disease severity as an endophyte. This is the first report characterizing pathogenic F. verticillioides on sugarcane in southern China.

시설물 안전점검 및 유지관리의 과업 중 정기안전점검은 경험과 기술을 갖춘 사람에 의한 세심한 외관조사 수준의 점검으로서 시설물의 기능적 상태를 판단하고 시설물이 현재의 사용요건을 계속 만족시키고 있는지 확인하기 위한 관찰로 이루어진다. 최근 카메라 성능의 급격한 발전과 더불어 기기 조작의 편리함, 원격 정보 취득, 경제성 등의 이점을 가진 영상 기반 시설물 점검 관련 연구들이 널리 수행되고 있다. 이에 따라 고성능 비전 카메라를 활용한 시설물 안전점검에 활용한 연구들이 제안되고 있다.

Item-Level Psychometrics of the 12 Items of the Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced Scale

Objective : This study examined the psychometric properties of the 12-item Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced Scale (COPE) using Rasch analysis. COPE is one of the instruments used to measure stress-coping skills. Methods : The study participants were 480 community-dwelling older adults. We tested the instrument’s unidimensionality assumption using principal component analysis (PCA). Item fit was examined using infit-and-outfit mean-square (MnSq) and standardized fit statistics (ZSTD). The precision and item difficulty hierarchies of the instrument were examined. The item-difficulty hierarchy was investigated to identify the easy and difficult items. We tested differential item functioning (DIF) for sex and age groups. Results : PCA revealed that the instrument met the unidimensionality assumption (eigenvalue = 1.78). Among the 12 items, item 2 was removed because of misfit (Infit MnSq = 1.33, Infit ZSTD = 5.05, Outfit MnSq = 1.56, Outfit ZSTD = 7.15). The remaining 11 items demonstrated a conceptual item-difficulty hierarchy. The person strata value was 3.10, which is equivalent to a reliability index value of 0.81. There was no DIF for the sex and age groups (DIF contrast <0.27). Conclusion : The findings indicated that the revised COPE-11 has adequate item-level psychometric properties and can accurately measure stress coping skills.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The Lau Basin erupts lavas with a range of geochemical features reflecting a complex history of interaction involving different mantle sources. The Valu Fa Ridge (VFR) and Mangatolu Triple Junction (MTJ) region have lavas with arc-like characteristics, Niuafo’ou Island (NV), Peggy Ridge and Central and Eastern Lau Spreading Centers (PR, CLSC and ELSC) erupt mid-ocean ridge basalt (MORB)-like volcanics, whereas the Rochambeau Bank (RB) has features akin to ocean island basalt (OIB). To characterize the volatile systematics of these various regions, we report a comprehensive study of 39 submarine lavas from these various eruptive centers encompassing analyses of the noble gases (He, Ne, and Ar) and carbon (CO<SUB>2</SUB>) – both isotopes and abundances – together with other major volatile phases (H<SUB>2</SUB>O, S, Cl, and F).</P><P>Helium isotope ratios of the NV, MTJ, CLSC, and ELSC are MORB-like for the most part except for differentiated lavas that tend to have lower, more radiogenic <SUP>3</SUP>He/<SUP>4</SUP>He values. The RB has considerably higher <SUP>3</SUP>He/<SUP>4</SUP>He ratios (up to 23 <I>R</I><SUB>A</SUB> in this work) which extend as far south as the PR. The influence of ‘plume-like’ sources in the RB is also apparent in Ne isotopes: RB samples follow a trend similar to Hawaiian basalts in 3-isotope neon space. However, RB lavas have lower <SUP>40</SUP>Ar/<SUP>36</SUP>Ar (300–730) and higher [<SUP>36</SUP>Ar] than CLSC and ELSC, suggesting greater air contamination. Elemental He/Ne ratios (<SUP>3</SUP>He/<SUP>22</SUP>Ne<SUB>S</SUB> and <SUP>4</SUP>He/<SUP>21</SUP>Ne<SUP>∗</SUP> where S=solar and *=nucleogenic) are high throughout the Lau Basin and identify the Lau mantle as one of only two high <SUP>3</SUP>He/<SUP>4</SUP>He provinces worldwide with such an enrichment of He relative to Ne.</P><P>Magmatic CO<SUB>2</SUB> and δ<SUP>13</SUP>C fall in the range 7–350ppm and −28‰ to −6‰, respectively. RB lavas have less [CO<SUB>2</SUB>] and slightly lower δ<SUP>13</SUP>C than CLSC and ELSC. The lowest values are found among MTJ lavas. These lavas also have the highest [H<SUB>2</SUB>O], [F], [Cl], and [S] whereas the PR, ELSC and CLSC have the lowest. RB has intermediate [H<SUB>2</SUB>O]. We estimate primary [CO<SUB>2</SUB>] in primary melts using [CO<SUB>2</SUB>]–δ<SUP>13</SUP>C relationships, and find that RB lavas have higher [CO<SUB>2</SUB>] (∼935±168ppm) than ELSC/CLSC (638±115ppm). They also possess higher initial δ<SUP>13</SUP>C values, consistent with observations at other hotspot-related localities. However, there are no discernible differences in primary CO<SUB>2</SUB>/Nb ratios between mantle sources characterized by high <SUP>3</SUP>He/<SUP>4</SUP>He and MORB-like ratios. On the other hand, reconstructed values are considerably higher than that envisaged for depleted MORB mantle based on olivine-hosted melt inclusions.</P>
