Use, Awareness, Knowledge and Beliefs of Medication During Pregnancy in Malaysia

Alani Ahmad Habeeb Hattab Dala Ali,Hassan Bassam Abdul Rasool,Suhaimi Azyyati Mohd,Mohammed Ali Haider 질병관리본부 2020 Osong Public Health and Research Persptectives Vol.11 No.6

Objectives This study aimed to assess medication use in pregnant women in Malaysia by measuring use, knowledge, awareness, and beliefs about medications. Methods This was an observational, cross-sectional study involving a total of 447 pregnant women who attended the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL), Malaysia. A validated, self-administered questionnaire was used to collect participant data. Results Most of pregnant women had taken medication during pregnancy and more than half of them (52.8%) showed a poor level of knowledge about the medication use during pregnancy. Eighty-three percent had a poor level of awareness and 56.5% had negative beliefs. Age and education level were significantly associated with the level of knowledge regarding medication use during pregnancy. Multiparous pregnant women, and pregnant women from rural areas were observed to have a higher level of awareness compared with those who lived in urban areas. Use of medication during pregnancy was determined to be significantly associated with education level, and race. Conclusion Although there was prevalent use of medication among pregnant women, many had negative beliefs, and insufficient knowledge and awareness about the risks of taking medication during pregnancy. Several sociodemographic characteristics were significantly associated with the use (race and education level), level of knowledge (age and education level), awareness (parity and place of residence), and beliefs (race, education level, and occupation status) towards medication use during pregnancy.

High Power PV Array Emulator Based on State Feedback Controller Under Uniform and Non-Uniform Insolation

Mustapha ALAOUI,Hattab MAKER,Azeddine MOUHSEN,Hicham HIHI 한국전기전자재료학회 2023 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.24 No.1

Solar Photovoltaic (PV) energy has known an increased interest in the last years. However, its dependence on climatic conditions hinders PV researchers from carrying out their tests and experiences at the desired weather parameters of temperature (T) and solar insolation (G), in addition to the expensive cost of actual PV panels and the required large area. Therefore, the PV array emulator has been invented to reproduce faithfully similar PV characteristics and mimic the behavior of actual PV modules and arrays irrespective of environmental conditions change. This paper proposes thus a new PV source emulator based on a full-bridge converter controlled by a state feedback technique. The control strategy is based on the resistance-current characteristic of the PV array in order to ensure high accuracy of the emulation process. The main contribution of this work is the improvement of the accuracy (relative steady-state error is less than 1%), stability and dynamic response of the PV emulator compared to existing solutions since the current and voltage ripples of the proposed emulator do not exceed 0.8% while the outputs of some existing conventional emulators become unstable at certain conditions. Moreover, the designed system is able to reach higher peak powers than those obtained through conventional PV emulators (more than 7 kW). Simulation results using Matlab Simulink software are presented and discussed to highlight the performances of the proposed PV system under uniform irradiance and partial shading conditions.

Ectopic sympathetic ganglia cells of the ventral root of the spinal cord: an anatomical study

        Chrissie Massrey,Marwah M. Abdulkader,Eyas Hattab,Joe Iwanaga,Marios Loukas,R. Shane Tubbs 대한해부학회 2020 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.53 No.1

The sympathetic trunk ganglia contain the cell bodies of neurons. However, some patients who undergo sympathectomy can develop compensatory hyperhidrosis. To evaluate for ectopic pathways, the present anatomical study was performed. Ten adult cadavers underwent dissection of the spinal canal and removal of randomly selected ventral roots, which were submitted for histological analysis. Random ventral root samples were taken from cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral regions in each specimen. Each histological section was then analyzed and the presence or absence of sympathetic cells documented for level and position within the ventral root. Of all samples, a sympathetic nerve cell was found in 80% of ventral roots. At least one sympathetic cell was found in these 80%. Most sympathetic cells were found in the proximal one-third of the ventral root. Such cells were found at all spinal levels and no specific level within a vertebral region was found to house a greater concentration of these cells. No statistical significance was found when comparing sides or sex. Our study confirmed that sympathetic cells exist in the majority of human ventral roots. Such data might better explain various clinical presentations and postoperative complications/findings.

Impact of Social Networks in Educational Media

Al-Said, Khaleel M.,Al Said, Nidal,Hattab, Ezz The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2020 Journal of information and communication convergen Vol.18 No.4

This study aims to determine whether student participation on Twitter affects academic performance. The key goals of the training course were to acquire social networking knowledge and skills and to learn how to share information, be productive in discussions, and create an interest-based community. The initial sample comprised 286 students from Jordan universities, 68.4% of whom agreed to participate in the study. Undergraduate students accounted for 73.9%, and graduate students accounted for 26.1%. Only 14.3% of the students chose the Twitter-based learning model. This is a mixed-methods study that integrates quantitative and qualitative approaches. The undergraduate students were found to tweet more and have more likes, while graduate students had more followers and were following more accounts. Moreover, 21% of the participants were the most active. Spearman's correlation analysis revealed a connection between participation in social media and student performance. Therefore, the results of this study may help educational professionals and education managers.

      • Export-platform FDI and local industries

Huu Thanh Tam Nguyen,Malika Hattab-Christmann 인하대학교 정석물류통상연구원 2009 인하대학교 정석물류통상연구원 학술대회 Vol.2009 No.10

The development of regional economic integration at the end of the century lead to emergence and development of a particular foreign investment know as "export-platform direct foreign investment". This paper aims to examine impacts of this investment on Vietnamese export-oriented industries (during the period 2000-2006). Firstly, competition effect is negative on production of domestic firms. A rise of 10% of foreign firms" production share in an industry goes with a decrease of 5.9% of domestic firms one. Even so, it does not affect their demographic balance. Consequently, the net effect on local production is negative. The same rise of foreign finns" production share leads to a drop of 12.3% of local one. Then, the presence of MNF generates technological externalities on local production. If their staff steps up by 1%, local production increases by 1.6% ceteris paribus. Furthermore, these extern-alities will be higher in industries where foreign firms are numerous. They also are more important in industries where employees hired by domestic firms are qualified. However, their diffusion will be prevented if the technology used by these foreign firms is advanced. Then, these externalities on local production seem to be brought by technological spillovers on production of domestic firms because any ones are not found on demography of these firms. Lastly, with regard to this demography, MNF only facilitate entry of domestic firms in industries where they are sufficiently numerous or that qualification of worker recruited by domestic firms is sufficiently high.
