Background/Aims This study aims to evaluate the presence of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) and to investigate the use of hypopharyngeal baseline impedance (BI) for assessing swallowing dysfunction and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) using hypopharyngeal multichannel intraluminal impedance and pH (HMII-pH) monitoring in neurologically impaired patients (NIPs). Methods The study population in this retrospective study comprised 20 NIPs (mean age, 36.1 ± 15.0 years; age range, 13-64 years) who underwent multichannel intraluminal impedance and pH (MII-pH), HMII-pH, and laryngoscopy using the Hyodo scoring method from December 2016 to April 2019. The MII-pH and HMM-pH parameters were compared in the NIPs, whereas hypopharyngeal BI values were compared between NIPs with ≥ 5 and < 5 in Hyodo scores. Correlations between the hypopharyngeal BI values and the Hyodo score were analyzed using Spearman’s correlation coefficient. A receiver operator characteristic curve was created to determine the optimum cut-off of hypopharyngeal BI value to discriminate SD. Results Three NIPs were diagnosed with pathological LPR and GERD by the HMII-pH monitoring. No significant differences in parameters were observed between MII-pH and HMII-pH monitoring. The correlation analysis demonstrated a significant negative correlation between the hypopharyngeal BI values and Hyodo scores. The optimal cutoff value for hypopharyngeal BI was 1552 Ω. Conclusions This study demonstrated the usefulness of HMII-pH monitoring in identifying NIP with pathological LPR. Considering the difficulties in performing examinations in NIPs, HMII-pH monitoring may be a potentially useful technique for the simultaneous evaluation of swallowing dysfunction, LPR, and GERD in NIP. Electrical Test for Open Defects in CMOS ICs by Injected Charge

In this paper, an electrical test method is proposed for open defects in CMOS ICs. The test method is based on amount of charge injected from a power supply voltage source. Also, it is examined by Spice simulation whether an open defect in an inverter chain circuit can be detected by the test method. The simulation results show us that an open defect can be detected by the test method.
Dramatic Structural Rearrangements in Porous Coordination Networks

<P>With the use of <I>ab initio</I> X-ray powder diffraction, a family of isostructural crystalline porous coordination networks, [(ZnX<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>(TPT)<SUB>2</SUB>]<SUB><I>n</I></SUB>· (solvent) (X = I, Br, Cl), has been studied at elevated temperatures of 573−723 K. Upon heating, all three networks exhibited crystalline-to-amorphous-to-crystalline (CAC) phase transformations to three new networks, [(ZnI<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>(TPT)<SUB>2</SUB>]<SUB><I>n</I></SUB>, [(ZnBr<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>(TPT)<SUB>2</SUB>]<SUB><I>n</I></SUB>·(H<SUB>2</SUB>O) and [(ZnBr<SUB>2</SUB>)(μ-Br)(ZnBr)(TPT)]<SUB><I>n</I></SUB>, and [(ZnCl<SUB>2</SUB>)(μ-Cl)(ZnCl)(TPT)]<SUB><I>n</I></SUB>, respectively. A set of control experiments was used to obtain detailed mechanistic aspects of the CAC transformations. We demonstrate how bonds are broken and formed in these significant molecular rearrangements and how the initial arrangement plays a crucial role in the formation of the new networks after the CAC transformations. Background/Aims The aim of this study is to investigate the degree of delayed gastric emptying (DGE) and evaluate how the severity of DGE affects gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in neurologically impaired (NI) patients utilizing 24-hour multichannel intraluminal impedance pH measurements (pH/MII) and <sup>13</sup>C-acetate breath test (<sup>13</sup>C-ABT) analyses. Methods <sup>13</sup>C-ABT and pH/MII were conducted in 26 NI patients who were referred to our institution due to suspected GERD. At first, correlation analyses were performed to investigate the correlation between the <sup>13</sup>C-ABT parameters and the clinical or pH/MII parameters. Thereafter, all patients were divided into 2 groups (DGE and severe DGE [SDGE] group) according to each cut off half emptying time (t<sub>1/2</sub>, 90-170 minutes). Each pH/MII parameter was compared between the 2 groups in each set-up cutoff t<sub>1/2</sub>. Results The mean t<sub>1/2</sub> of all patients was 215.5 ± 237.2 minutes and the t<sub>1/2</sub> of 24 (92.3%) patients were > 100 minutes. Significant moderate positive correlations were observed between both t1/2 and lag phase time and the non-acid reflux related parameters. Furthermore, the patients in the SDGE group demonstrated higher non-acid reflux related parameters than those of the DGE groups when the cutoff was t<sub>1/2</sub> ≥ 140 minutes. Conclusion The present study demonstrated that GE with t<sub>1/2</sub> ≥ 140 minutes was related to an increase of non-acid exposure reaching up to the proximal esophagus in NI patients, and indicating that NI patients with SDGE might have a high risk of non-acid GERD. Octaminomycins A and B, Cyclic Octadepsipeptides Active against <i>Plasmodium falciparum</i>

<P>Two new cyclic octadepsipeptides, octaminomycins A (1) and B (2), were isolated from a microbial metabolite fraction library of Streptomyces sp. RK85-270 based on Natural Products Plot screening. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data, and MS/MS experiments for sequence analysis. The absolute configurations of the constituent amino acid residues were determined by a combination of single crystal X-ray diffraction and Marfey's methodology. Notably, octaminomycins A (1) and B (2) showed good in vitro antiplasmodial activity against chloroquine-sensitive as well as chloroquine-resistant strains with no cytotoxicity up to 30 mu M.</P>

<P>Ammonium and sodium salts (ion pairs) of a multi-interactive tri-(4-pyridyl) hexaazaphenalenyl anion (TPHAP(-)) showed completely different ion-conductive properties depending on the crystal structure. TPHAP columnar crystals showed a high conductivity of 10(-3) S cm(-1) while retaining their structures even under humid conditions, whereas TPHAP dimer crystals exhibited a conductivity of similar to 10(-5) S cm(-1) with crystallinity deterioration. The main unit structures induced by multi-interactivity realized different water accessibility, which explains the differences in their ion conductivity and stability against humidity.</P>

<P>An acinar morphogenesis inhibitor named fusarisetin A (<B>1</B>) that possesses both an unprecedented carbon skeleton and a new pentacyclic ring system has been identified from an in-house fractionated fungal library using a three-dimensional matrigel-induced acinar morphogenesis assay system. <P>We report on an improved melt-processing method to prepare organic semiconducting layers with large crystal size and enhanced charge carrier mobilities. The organic compound used in this work is a solution-processable oligo(<I>p</I>-phenylene vinylene) derivative substituted at both ends with pyrene moieties. Accurate control of the temperature during the recrystallization of this compound from the melt enables the formation of large single crystal monodomains in thin films. The melt-processed organic layer shows higher mobilities in transistor configuration than in spin-coated films, which can be attributed to the presence of large-size crystalline monodomains as evidenced by X-ray diffraction measurements. We also investigated the photophysical properties of this material in spin-coated and melted films and found an increase of the photoluminescence quantum yield with the size of the crystals in the organic layer. The advantage of this method over the spin coating also allowed observation of amplified spontaneous emission that was only achieved in the melted film due to its improved luminescence efficiency. Overall, this study demonstrates a simple and versatile method, which does not require the use of any solvent and vacuum, to fabricate organic layers with large crystal size, suitable for the realization of organic electronic and light-emitting devices.</P>
