<P>What are the current approaches in brain proteomics? Can we combine different, but complementary study designs to obtain better results concerning brain diseases? What are the neuro-hotspots, especially in Korea? These were some of the questions the participants of the 8<SUP>th</SUP> HUPO Brain Proteome Project Workshop tried to answer prior to the 6<SUP>th</SUP> HUPO World Congress in Seoul, Korea. Around 100 scientists came together during the afternoon of 7 October, 2007, to discuss and to catch up on the latest results and strategies concerning Huntington's disease, glioblastoma and standardization.</P>
Thermal Fingerprints for Computational Tasks - Benefits and Security Issues

Digital fingerprinting is used in several security-related domains to identify and track individual users or processes. In this paper, we introduce and discuss thermal fingerprinting as a novel approach to categorise computational tasks regarding its security impact and possible attack vectors. The concept of thermal fingerprinting monitors basic thermal sensor data from each server entity. The respective, characteristic curves are merged with additional general system information, such as CPU load behaviour, memory usage, and I/O characteristics. The result represents two-dimensional thermal patterns, which are unique and achievable. Besides the huge potential for energy savings, also security issues has to be analysed and considered.
A review on the importance of surface coating of micro/nano-mold in micro/nano-molding processes

<P>Micro/nano hot-embossing and injection molding are two promising manufacturing processes for the mass production of workpieces bearing micro/nanoscale features. However, both the workpiece and micro/nano-mold are susceptive to structural damage due to high thermal stress, adhesion and friction, which occur at the interface between the workpiece and the mold during these processes. Hence, major constraints of micro/nano-molds are mainly attributed to improper replication and their inability to withstand a prolonged sliding surface contact because of high sidewall friction and/or high adhesion. Consequently, there is a need for proper surface coating as it can improve the surface properties of micro/nano-molds such as having a low friction coefficient, low adhesion and low wear rate. This review deals with the physical, mechanical and tribological properties of various surface coatings and their impact on the replication efficiency and lifetime of micro/nano-molds that are used in micro/nano hot-embossing and injection molding processes.</P>
Safety and Reactogenicity of the Inactivated Poliomyelitis Vaccine (PoliorixTM) in Korea (2006-2012)

Objective: As per the requirement of Korean Food and Drug Administration, this post-marketing surveillance was conducted in Korea to evaluate the safety and reactogenicity of PoliorixTM following its introduction in 2006. Methods: In this open, multicenter study, the vaccine was administered as per the current practice of Korean doctors and in reference to the guidebook by the Korean Pediatric Society and as indicated in the Korean label which was as follows - for primary vaccination three doses were given to infants at ages 2, 4 and 6 months whereas, for the booster dose a single dose was given to children aged 4-6 years. Safety data during this six year surveillance was collected using diary cards which were distributed to the parents to record adverse events. Results: A total of 639 subjects were enrolled into the study. Of these, 617 subjects and 22 subjects received the vaccine as a primary and booster dose, respectively. At least one unsolicited symptom was reported in 11.4% (73/639) of the subjects during the 7-day follow-up period; upper respiratory tract infection (2.5%;16/639) was the most frequently reported unsolicited symptom. One subject reported at least one unsolicited symptom (gastroenteritis) of grade 3 intensity within the 31- day post-vaccination period. Approximately 1.7% (11/639) of subjects reported 13 serious adverse events (SAEs). All SAEs were resolved by the end of the study. Conclusion: In Korea, primary and booster vaccination with PoliorixTM was well-tolerated in healthy subjects when administered according to the prescribing information as part of routine clinical practice.
