A Development of High Strength Hybrid Car Bodyshell Using Optimization Algorithms

Recently, car bodyshell strength requirements have been strengthened. The need for lightweight car body designs was increased to improve energy consumption efficiency. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to develope the hybrid EMU bodyshell that uses both steel and aluminium as material to satisfy the two requirements. EN12663-1 P-III was used as car bodyshell strength standard. Whether the strength of car bodyshell was satisfied or not was determined by using the Finite Element Method. Later, the car bodyshell weight lightening was conducted by using an optimization algorithm, a combination of topology optimization technique and size optimization technique.
