        초등학교 사회교과서의 자연지리 분야 관련 용어와 과학교과서의 지구과학 분야 관련 용어의 관련성

        이 연구는 제7차 교육과정의 초등학교 사회과 교과서의 자연지리학 단원들과 과학 교과서의 지구과학 단원들 간의 교육과정 상의 간학문적 연계성을 살펴보는 예비적인 연구로서 이들 분야들 간에 공통적으로 사용되는 용어들에 대한 비교·분석을 시도하였다. 초등학교 사회 교과서의 자연지리학 용어의 수는 저학년에서 고학년으로 갈수록 증가하는 경향을 보인다. 이들 용어들에서는 기후학 관련 용어 수가 가장 많고 한자어로 된 용어가 약 90%로 다수를 차지하고 있다. 사회교과서에서의 토양 및 지형학과 과학교과서에서의 지형 및 지질학관련 용어들의 약 26%가 중복되고 사회교과서의 기후학과 과학교과서의 대기과학 관련 용어들은 약 36%가 중복된다. 이러한 결과들은 초등학교 사회과의 자연지리와 과학과의 지구과학 분야들은 상호 밀접한 관계가 형성되고 있어 교육과정의 운영상 이러한 관계의 고려가 필수적으로 요청된다는 것을 시사한다. In this study, natural geographic vocabularies in Society and earth science ones in Science textbooks, elementary school, were mutually analyzed in common use, as a preliminarily interdisciplinary approach between above two domains. The natural geographic vocabularies in Society are increased toward ascending grade of the school, and these include many climatology(the highest among natural geographic domains) and Chinese ones in number. Soil and geomorphology domains in Society and geomorphology and geology ones in Science mutually possess common vocabularies in about 26%. And, climatology and atmospheric science domains in above two textbooks also have common ones in about 36%. From above results, it is indicated that natural geography domains in Society and earth science ones in Science of elementary textbooks are intensely interrelated with, then, the considerations on the relationship are necessary in elementary curricula management.

      • An injectable cationic hydrogel electrostatically interacted with BMP2 to enhance <i>in vivo</i> osteogenic differentiation of human turbinate mesenchymal stem cells

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We have designed and characterized an injectable, electrostatically bonded, <I>in situ</I>–forming hydrogel system consisting of a cationic polyelectrolyte [(methoxy)polyethylene glycol-<I>b</I>-(poly(ε-caprolactone)-<I>ran</I>-poly(L-lactic acid)] (MP) copolymer derivatized with an amine group (MP-NH<SUB>2</SUB>) and anionic BMP2. To the best of our knowledge, there have been hardly any studies that have investigated electrostatically bonded, <I>in situ</I>–forming hydrogel systems consisting of MP-NH<SUB>2</SUB> and BMP2, with respect to how they promote <I>in vivo</I> osteogenic differentiation of human turbinate mesenchymal stem cells (hTMSCs). Injectable formulations almost immediately formed an electrostatically loaded hydrogel depot containing BMP2, upon injection into mice. The hydrogel features and stability of BMP2 inside the hydrogel were significantly affected by the electrostatic attraction between BMP2 and MP-NH<SUB>2</SUB>. Additionally, the time BMP2 spent inside the hydrogel depot was prolonged <I>in vivo</I>, as evidenced by <I>in vivo</I> near-infrared fluorescence imaging. Biocompatibility was demonstrated by the fact that hTMSCs survived <I>in vivo</I>, even after 8 weeks and even though relatively few macrophages were in the hydrogel depot. The osteogenic capacity of the electrostatically loaded hydrogel implants containing BMP2 was higher than that of a hydrogel that was simply loaded with BMP2, as evidenced by Alizarin Red S, von Kossa, and hematoxylin and eosin staining as well as osteonectin, osteopontin, osteocalcin, and type 1α collagen mRNA expression. The results confirmed that our injectable, <I>in situ</I>–forming hydrogel system, electrostatically loaded with BMP2, can enhance <I>in vivo</I> osteogenic differentiation of hTMSCs.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> An injectable, electrostatically bonded, <I>in situ</I>–forming hydrogel system consisting of a cationic polyelectrolyte copolymer derivatized with an amine group and anionic BMP2 was prepared. </LI> <LI> The hydrogel features and stability of BMP2 inside the hydrogel were significantly affected by the electrostatic attraction between BMP2 and cationic polyelectrolyte copolymer. </LI> <LI> The electrostatically loaded hydrogel enhanced osteogenic differentiation of human turbinate mesenchymal stem cells better than one with simple loading of BMP2. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Determination of the Kinetic Properties of Platycodin D for the Inhibition of Pancreatic Lipase Using a 1,2-Diglyceride-Based Colorimetric Assay

        A 1, 2-diglyceride-based multi-step colorimetric assay to measure the pancreatic lipase activity was applied for the determination of the kinetic profiles of the lipase inhibition with a slight modification and the validity verification. With this assay method, our study revealed that platycodin D, one of major constituents of Platycodi Radix, inhibits the pancreatic lipase activity in a competitive type, with the value of KI being 0.18±0.02 mM. In addition, PD has affected the values of Km, app and Kcat/Km in a dose- dependent manner. The results shed a meaningful light on how PD mediates lipid metabolism in the intestinal tracts. On the other hand, since the revised assay is sensitive, rapid, and does not affect the accuracy to the kinetic properties, it is applicable not only to evaluation of the kinetic properties of the pancreatic lipase, but also to highthroughput screening of pancreatic lipase activity.

        고흥지역에 분포하는 백악기 응회암의 역학적 특성에 관한 연구

        본 연구에서는 전라남도 고흥군 일대에 분포하는 중생대 백악기 응회암을 대상으로 실내 시험을 통하여 역학적 특성을 파악하였다. 고흥군 일대에 분포하는 응회암(고흥응회암, 팔영산 용결응회암)은 성분상 glass성분이 우세한 유리질응회암(vitric tuff)에 해당된다. 응회암의 물리적 특성인 비중, 건조밀도, 함수율, 공극율 및 흡수율의 평균값은 각각 2.51, 2.52(g/㎤), 0.12(%), 4.51(%) 및 1.91(%)이다. 공극율의 증가에 따라 건조밀도는 낮아지는 경향을 보이며, 흡수율과 공극율은 밀접한 상관관계를 보인다. 일축압축강도(UCS) 범위는 80.4∼208(MPa), 평균 141.1(MPa)로서 Deere & Miller(1966)에 의한 신선한 암의 공학적 분류에 의하면 high strength에 해당이 된다. 축방향의 점하중 강도지수(Isa)는 평균 4.2(MPa)이며, 직경방향 점하중 강도지수(Isd)는 평균 2.2(MPa)으로, 점하중강도 이방성지수(Is(50))는 1.93이다. 일축압축강도와 축방향 점하중 강도지수(Is(50))는 밀접한 선형관계를 보이며, 관계식은 UCS = 22 Is(50) +49 (MPa) (r=0.95)로 나타낼 수 있다. 이 식은 고흥 지역 응회암에 대한 일축압축강도를 예측하는데 유용하게 사용할 수 있다 The mechanical properties of the Cretaceous tuff distributed in the Goheung area were measured in the laboratory. Tuff (Goehung tuff and Palyeongsan welded tuff) in the study area is classified into vitric tuff with regard to its composition. The specific gravity, the dry density, the water content, the porosity and absorption ratio in tuffs of the study area are 2.51, 2.52(g/㎤), 0.12(%), 4.51(%) and 1.91(%) in means, respectively. In the tuffs, dry densities are in inverse proportion to porosities, and absorption ratios are highly proportional with porosities. The uniaxial compressive strengths(UCS) in the tuffs ranges from 80.4 to 208(MPa) and the average of the strength is 141.1(MPa). According to the engineering classification of intact rock (Deere & Miller, 1966), the tuffs are assigned to the high strength rocks. The point load strength index (Isa) in axial test is 4.2(MPa) on the average, and the point load strength index (Isd) in diametral test is 2.2(MPa) in mean, and the point load strength anisotrophic index(Ia(50)) by the ratio of Isa to Isd is 1.93. There is close linear correlation between the uniaxial compressive strength and point load strength index, and the equation representing the correlation is postulated as follows : UCS = 22 Is(50) +49 (MPa) (r=0.95). It is considered that this equation is a useful tool to estimate UCS for tuff in Goheung area.

        목포 갓바위의 지형 및 지질 특성과 활용

        To consider geomorphological and geological characteristics to Gatbawi(the 500th natural monument), it was investigated with the aspect of scale, form, mineralogy, chemistry and weathered state. Showing typically erosional features, micro-terrains as sea cliffs, sea notches, marine plateaus and tafoni developed well on coastal areas near the monument. Sea cliffs are vertical and form sea notches in their bases. Coastal terraces are 3.5m in width and 20m in trace. Tafoni are honey combed. The monument is mainly composed of quartz, plagioclase, microcline, biotite, sericite in mineral and corresponded to crystalline tuff dominated in quartz and plagioclase. It has 23.60~28.27 wt.% of Al2O3, 3.27~5.80 wt.% of Na2O, and 0.11~0.20 wt.% of Cl in chemical contents, leveling higher than those of earth crust standards. It is considerably weathered on the basis of CAI(77.42~83.93%). The monument is very useful for natural perspective tourism and education. Therefore, it is necessary that several ideas as guide plates, observing telescope, explaining guider, education programs connected with related services, touring goods, picture for books on utilization on the monument must establish.

      • Cholesterol-lowering effect of platycodin D in hypercholesterolemic ICR mice

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>This study investigates the in vivo hypocholesterolemic action of platycodin D and its in vitro evidence for the cholesterol-lowering properties. In order to examine the effects of platycodin D on hypercholesterolemia in male ICR mice, platycodin D with doses of 15, 30 or 50?mg/kg was orally administered for 8 weeks. Changes in body weight and daily food intake were measured regularly during the experimental period. Final contents of triglyceride and different types of cholesterol in the serum, livers and feces were determined. The effects of platycodin D on cholesterol metabolism were further investigated with several in vitro assays, including antioxidant effect on low density lipoprotein oxidation, inhibition of human acyl-coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase (hACAT) and serum lipoprotein associated-phospholipase A<SUB>2</SUB> (Lp-PLA<SUB>2</SUB>), as well as the regulation of farnesoid X receptor. The formation of insoluble complex between platycodin D and cholesterol was also investigated. Following an eight week experimental period, the body weights of platycodin D-fed mice were less than those of control mice on a high cholesterol diet by 11.2±5% (<I>P</I><0.01) with 15 mg/kg platycodin D, 11.7±5% (<I>P</I><0.01) with 30?mg/kg platycodin D, and 23.4±7.9% (<I>P</I><0.0001) with 50?mg/kg platycodin D, respectively. A decrease in daily food consumption was also noted in most of the treated animals. Triglyceride and cholesterol concentrations were decreased in serums and livers, but increased in feces. Some of the in vitro observations revealed that the hypocholesterolemic effect of platycodin D is partly associated with inhibition to hACAT activity and antagonism to the farnesoid X receptor as well as the formation of insoluble complex with between platycodin D and cholesterol. Both in vivo and in vitro results demonstrate a potential value of platycodin D as a novel cholesterol-lowering and anti-atherogenic candidate.</P>

        여수 사도의 지형 및 지질경관 특성

        This study is intended to provide resources of on-the-spot experience learning activities for students by investigating characteristics of geomorphological and geological landscapes in Sado(including Jungdo and Jeungdo). There are nine types of geomorphological and geological landscape according to the classification from NIER(National Institute of Environmental Research) or seventeen types of it, according to the categorization from KEI(Korea Environment Institute). Such geomorphological and geological landscapes are useful as a place for on-the-spot learning activities that various types of geographical and geological features suggested in the elementary and middle school textbooks and also as a basic data for ecotourism and geotourism for visitors in Sado. In addition, specific targets to be investigated for geographical and geological heritage suggested by KEI should be determined in terms of conservation value through professional and thorough field investigation.
