Individual identification is an important part in medicolegal field especially in mass disaster. At July, 27, 1989, KAL KE-803 was crashed on landing at Tripoli International Airport, Liba. The plane was caught in fire and sixty eight Koreans were sacrified. The majority of victims were severely charred and injured. The authors examed all dead bodies and successfully identified all the cases through visual, anthropological, odontological, radiological and pathological methods including fingerprint and blood typing.

<P>Whitlockite (WH: Ca18Mg2(HPO4)2(PO4)12) is the second most abundant mineral in hard tissues, but its precipitation mechanism or role in the body system is poorly understood. Here, using a newly discovered synthetic method for WH, we investigated the kinetic mechanism for the precipitation of WH under physiologically similar conditions, excluding any effects of toxic ions. Based on systematically classified stages in the precipitation process of WH, we monitored the transformation of calcium phosphate phases from neutral pH to acidic pH with the addition of H3PO4. The study revealed that at 70 °C, hydroxyapatite (HAP: Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) transforms into dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD: CaHPO4·2H2O) and then into WH in the presence of Mg<SUP>2+</SUP> ions as the pH decreases. The transformation process involves multiple intermediates, the stability of which depends on the cation (Ca and Mg) activities and the solution pH. WH is the most stable calcium phosphate compound below pH 4.2, whereas HAP is the most stable around neutral pH. We also found that Mg<SUP>2+</SUP> ions, which are known to block the growth of HAP, can play a key role in WH formation. This study provides a new insight into the interplay of biologically important calcium phosphate compounds.</P>

<P>The synthesis of pure whitlockite (WH: Ca<SUB>18</SUB>Mg<SUB>2</SUB>(HPO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>(PO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>12</SUB>) has remained a challenge even though it is the second most abundant inorganic in living bone. Although a few reports about the precipitation of WH in heterogeneous phases have been published, to date, synthesizing WH without utilizing any effects of a buffer or various other ions remains difficult. Thus, the related research fields have encountered difficulties and have not been fully developed. Here, we developed a large-scale synthesis method for pure WH nanoparticles in a ternary Ca(OH)<SUB>2</SUB>–Mg(OH)<SUB>2</SUB>–H<SUB>3</SUB>PO<SUB>4</SUB> system based on a systematic approach. We used excess Mg<SUP>2+</SUP> to impede the growth of hydroxyapatite (HAP: Ca<SUB>10</SUB>(PO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>6</SUB>(OH)<SUB>2</SUB>) and the formation of other kinetically favored calcium phosphate intermediate phases. In addition, we designed and investigated the synthesis conditions of WH under the acidic pH conditions required to dissolve HAP, which is the most thermodynamically stable phase above pH 4.2, and to incorporate the HPO<SUB>4</SUB><SUP>2–</SUP> group into the chemical structure of WH. We demonstrated that pure WH nanoparticles can be precipitated under Mg<SUP>2+</SUP>-rich and acidic pH conditions without any intermediate phases. Interestingly, this synthesized nano-WH showed comparable biocompatibility with HAP. <P>Nature designs circulatory systems with hierarchically organized networks of gradually tapered channels ranging from micrometer to nanometer in diameter. In most hard tissues in biological systems, fluid, gases, nutrients and wastes are constantly exchanged through such networks. Here, we developed a biologically inspired, hierarchically organized structure in ceramic to achieve effective permeation with minimum void region, using fabrication methods that create a long-range, highly interconnected nanochannel system in a ceramic biomaterial. This design of a synthetic model-material was implemented through a novel pressurized sintering process formulated to induce a gradual tapering in channel diameter based on pressure-dependent polymer agglomeration. The resulting system allows long-range, efficient transport of fluid and nutrients into sites and interfaces that conventional fluid conduction cannot reach without external force. We demonstrate the ability of mammalian bone-forming cells placed at the distal transport termination of the nanochannel system to proliferate in a manner dependent solely upon the supply of media by the self-powering nanochannels. cDNA for human cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP), a potent atherogenic plasma protein that redistributes the neutral lipids among lipoproteins, was expressed in recombinant vaccinia virus-infected cells (CV-1). Two insertion vectors regulated by different promoters were constructed. The vectors were introduced into human thymidine kinase-negative ($TK^-$) 1438 cells infected with wild-type vaccinia virus (WR strain). Recombinant viruses were selected with 5-bromodeoxyuridine (BUdR) and X-gal and identified with DNA dot blot analysis (vSC11-CETP and vTM1-CETP). The CETP cDNA insert in the recombinant vaccinia virus genome was identified by Southern blot analysis. Transcription of CETP cDNA in CV-1 cells infected with recombinant vaccinia virus was monitored by Northern blot analysis using the CETP cDNA as a probe. Positive signals were detected at 1.8 kb in cells infected with vSC11-CETP and at 2.3 kb in cells infected with vTM1-CETP. The recombinant vaccinia virus-infected CV-1 cells were shown to produce functional CETP when the culture medium was subjected to the CETP assay.

<P><B>Objective</B></P><P>We prospectively compared whole-body multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) and 3.0T magnetic resonance (MR) images with autopsy findings.</P><P><B>Materials and Methods</B></P><P>Five cadavers were subjected to whole-body, 16-channel MDCT and 3.0T MR imaging within two hours before an autopsy. A radiologist classified the MDCT and 3.0T MRI findings into major and minor findings, which were compared with autopsy findings.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Most of the imaging findings, pertaining to head and neck, heart and vascular, chest, abdomen, spine, and musculoskeletal lesions, corresponded to autopsy findings. The causes of death that were determined on the bases of MDCT and 3.0T MRI findings were consistent with the autopsy findings in four of five cases. CT was useful in diagnosing fatal hemorrhage and pneumothorax, as well as determining the shapes and characteristics of the fractures and the direction of external force. MRI was effective in evaluating and tracing the route of a metallic object, soft tissue lesions, chronicity of hemorrhage, and bone bruises.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>A postmortem MDCT combined with MRI is a potentially powerful tool, providing noninvasive and objective measurements for forensic investigations.</P>

Objectives: This study is aimed to figure out Korean medicine doctors` recognition of Korean Medicine clinical practice guidelines (CPG) and clinical fields of treating primary dysmenorrhea before developing CPG for dysmenorrhea. Methods: We conducted a questionnaire survey targeting 515 Korean medicine doctors belonging to the Association of Korean Medicine by e-mail and analyzed the answers. Results: 81.2% of the respondents knew the concepts and contents of CPG, and 98.7% agreed about the necessity of CPG. 94.2% were willing to use CPG for dysmenorrhea in learning and treating. Average number of patients visiting the respondents` clinics for dysmenorrhea was 3.9, the main age group was 20s (63.1%), and the treatments the patients given before were mostly Western treatments such as pain killers and hormonal drugs. The respondents answered that they diagnosed patients with dysmenorrhea mainly with pattern diagnosis (41.6%), and treated them with herbal medicine (39.2%), acupuncture (31.6%) and moxibustion (22.6%) for 2-3 months. They answered that the acupoint they use most was San yin jiao, and the prescription was Gui-zhi-fu-ling-wan, They answered that the field considered to need further study was decoction of herbal medicine most (27.4%), and the field considered to need insurance coverage was also decoction of herbal medicine most (40.2%). Conclusions: We figured out Korean Medicine doctors` recognition of CPG, clinical diagnosis, treatment, cost for treating dysmenorrhea, and fields of clinical research and policy they required.

In this paper, AMS and failure diagnosis system is developed by using LabVIEW, G programming language.
