Results on the fly-wheel energy storage system driven by a high speed, and high frequency dual-inverter are summarized in this paper. The purposes of this system are mainly to achieve effective use of braking energy of electric railway locomotives, and additionally to reduce the peak load demand and the cost of electric utility. Economic evaluation is performed compared with the battery storage system. Basic characteristics of the Dual-inverter system, for the high power and high speed drive of fly wheel studied and the opening and closing method of the inverter from the induction machine during, the energy storing period, is suggested.

According to recent evidence, ferroptosis is a major cell death mechanism in the pathogenesis of kidney injury and fibrosis. Despite the renoprotective effects of classical ferroptosis inhibitors, therapeutic approaches targeting kidney ferroptosis remain limited. In this study, we assessed the renoprotective effects of melatonin and zileuton as a novel therapeutic strategy against ferroptosis-mediated kidney injury and fibrosis. First, we identified RSL3-induced ferroptosis in renal tubular epithelial HK-2 and HKC-8 cells. Lipid peroxidation and cell death induced by RSL3 were synergistically mitigated by the combination of melatonin and zileuton. Combination treatment significantly downregulated the expression of ferroptosis-associated proteins, 4-HNE and HO-1, and upregulated the expression of GPX4. The expression levels of p-AKT and p-mTOR also increased, in addition to that of NRF2 in renal tubular epithelial cells. When melatonin (20 mg/kg) and zileuton (20 mg/kg) were administered to a unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) mouse model, the combination significantly reduced tubular injury and fibrosis by decreasing the expression of profibrotic markers, such as α-SMA and fibronectin. More importantly, the combination ameliorated the increase in 4-HNE levels and decreased GPX4 expression in UUO mice. Overall, the combination of melatonin and zileuton was found to effectively ameliorate ferroptosis-related kidney injury by upregulating the AKT/mTOR/ NRF2 signaling pathway, suggesting a promising therapeutic strategy for protection against ferroptosis-mediated kidney injury and fibrosis.
Development of Comprehensive Separation System for ASR Recycling of ELVs

The recycling of End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) is getting great concerns according to the increase of a tremendous amount of ELVs worldwide. This led to various research works on the recycling of the ELVs that have resulted in technologies being developed and transferred to the industrialization. Generally, the reusable parts can be taken away in advance on the dismantling process of ELVs and the remaining are shredded, then the iron and nonferrous metals are recovered from the debris. About 75% of the ELVs are recycled but the remaining 25% are yet to be reclaimed or incinerated. This remaining 25% are called as Automobile Shredder Residues (ASR). Many technologies for the recycling of the ASR, such as compaction, solidification, pyrolysis, and gasification, have been researched and industrialized. However, the methods of compaction and solidification carry environmental pollution problems. And the pyrolysis and gasification methods may have higher treatment costs besides incurring the air pollution problem. Which can be inferred that the physical separation techniques and processes have better advantages in recovering the metal and recycling of plastics and rubber from the ASR, especially for the nations that have limited material resources, e.g. Korea. In this study, for material separation of ASR, a comprehensive separation system combining unit separation technique has been developed. The recycling rate was calculated by mass balance analysis of the recovered products through this system, and the total recycling rate was about to 86%.

Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPPT) techniques are employed in PV systems to make full utilization of PV array output power which depends on solar irradiation and temperature. Recently, many MPPT algorithms and control schemes of PV system have been proposed, but different control methods and different PID controller parameters lead to different output efficiency and dynamic response. Therefore, in this paper, a PSCAD/EMTDC user defined module of the solar array is established to easily simulate its inherent characteristics with the basic specification data. Moreover, we also compare the advantages and weakness of the existing MPPT control methods by simulations to give a reference to the Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System (GCPS) designers.

Background: Cold hypersensitivity in the hands and feet (CHHF) is a symptom patients usually feel cold in their hands and feet, but not dealt with a disease in western medicine. However, it is often appealed by patients at a clinic of Korean medicine (KM), considered to be a sort of key diagnostic indicator, and actively treated by physicians. Nevertheless, there is no standardized diagnostic definition for CHHF. Therefore, we surveyed KM experts’ opinions to address the clinical definition, diagnostic criteria, and other relevant things on CHHF. Methods: We developed a survey to assess the definition, diagnosis, causes, and accompanying symptoms on CHHF. 31 experts who work at specialized university hospitals affiliated with KM hospitals consented to participation. Experts responded to survey questions by selecting multiple-choice answers or stating their opinions. Results: Vast majority of experts (83.8%) agreed with our definition on CHHF (“a feeling of cold as a symptom; that one's hands or feet become colder than those of average people in temperatures that are not normally perceived as cold”). 77.4% of experts considered subjective symptoms on CHHF were more important than medical instrument results. Constitution or genetic factors (87.1%) and stress (64.5%) were the most common causes reported for CHHF. Conclusions: This study offers an expert consensus regarding the themes, opinions, and experiences of practitioners with CHHF. Our results underscore the need for standardized definitions and diagnostic criteria for CHHF.

ObjectivesLumbago is very common symptoms and many lumbago patients visited Korean Medicine clinic to cure lumbago. But It is not studied therapy type and pattern iden-tification in lumbago patients. This study aim to survey therapy type and pattern identi-fication in lumbago patients.MethodsWe collected data of 755 patients treated to cure lumbago in Korean Medicine Hospital from 1, Jan. to 31, Dec., 2012. The therapy variable are acupuncture, herbal acu-puncture, physical therapy, Chuna Tx, herbal medicine, cupping and moxibustion. Demographic variable are age, gender, district, medical insurance code, and etc.Results1) We collected data of 755 lumbago patients in 5 Korean medical Hospitals. 2) Age, district, insurance code, diseases were statistically significant by pattern identification. 3) Therapy types of lumbago patients were different by pattern identification.ConclusionsIn lumbago patients, therapy type and herbal medicine were different by Pattern identification. In the future, it is needed prospective and large scale database for pattern identification in lumbago patients. (J Korean Med Rehab 2013;23(4):177-184)

Purpose: Hemorrhage is a main cause of death in trauma patients. The goal of this study is to describe the characteristics of trauma patients with massive bleeding and to evaluate the prognostic factors concerning their survival. Methods: This study was performed retrospectively and included trauma patients with massive bleeding who had been treated from March 2007 to August 2012. The inclusion criterion was patients who received more than 10 U of packed red blood cells within the first 24 hours after visiting the emergency department. Based on their medical records, we collected data in terms of demographic findings, mechanisms of injury, initial clinical and laboratory findings, methods for hemostasis (emergency surgery and/or angioembolization), transfusion, injury severity score (ISS), revised trauma score (RTS) and trauma and injury severity score (TRISS). We used the Mann-Whitney U test and Fisher`s exact test to compare the variables between the patients that survived and those that did not. We performed a logistic regression analysis with the significant variables from the univariate test. Results: Thirty-two(32) patients were enrolled. The main mechanisms of injury were falls and motor vehicle accidents. The mean transfusion amount of packed red blood cells (PRBC) was 17.4 U. The mean elapsed time for the first hemostasis (surgery or embolization) was 3.5 hours. The initial technical success rates were 83.3%(15/18) in angioembolization and 66.7%(8/12) in surgery. The overall mortality rate was 34.4%(11/32). The causes of death were bleeding, brain swelling and multiple organ failure. The ISS(25.5 vs 46.3, p=0.000), TRISS(73.6 vs 45.1, p=0.034) and base excess(<-12 mmol/L, p=0.020) were significantly different between the patients who survived and those who did not. Conclusion: The ISS was a prognostic factor for trauma patients with massive bleeding. (J Trauma Inj 2012;25:247-253)

Valve remote control system(VRCS) is a convenient system which make it possible to operate the valves installed in the cargo or ballast tanks from the remote wheelhouse using only push buttons on the central control console. The actual positions of valves are normally displayed on a mimic panel. VRCS is consisted of many parts such as a control console, a interface panel, a hydraulic power pack, a solenoid valve rack, a deck box and valves with hydraulic actuators. Thus, this study designed a new hydraulic actuator using gear pump. Its main components are a gear pump, an AC motor, a check valve, a relief valve and a controller. Therefore, the developed VRCS has a simply structure such as a control console, a interface panel and valves with new hydraulic actuators.
