Northeast Asia reached a crossroads in 2005. Revisionism intensified with Japan’s assertive and insensitive handling of its historical legacy, as South Korea and China contem-plated revisionist moves of their own. Their conflicting strategies for regionalism were tested in preparations for the first East Asian Summit, as China took the lead in pressing for faster integration while Japan grew more wary of its apparent interest in gaining dominance and South Korea narrowed its focus. As the Six-Party Talks faced a turning point, Seoul’s rush to accelerate inter-Korean inte-gration clashed with other notions of reunification, espe-cially with Tokyo’s priority on abductions and the efforts by Washington and Beijing to narrow their distance on dealing with the nuclear weapons and materials in the North. On all sides, there was a shortage of realist measures to prioritize stability. Each side’s ideological inclinations compounded the emotional responses of public opinion, and the situation in 2006 was slow to improve until Chinese overtures to Ja-pan and the North Korean nuclear test laid the foundation for new responses. In 2007 the balance of priorities across the region remains in doubt.

긴 역사를 통해 발전되어 온 인권과 자연법은 세계 모든 사람이 누려야 하는, 빼앗지 못할 필수 권리에 대한 내용을 담고 있다. 유럽에서는 크리스천 종교가 꽃을 피우기 전에 이미 고대부터 소포클레스와 플라톤을 비롯한 그리스와 로마 철학자들은 인간이 원래 자연적으로 누려야 할 기본권이 있다고 주장한 바 있다. 시간이 흐르면서 신학의 아버지로 불리우는 아퀴나스는 이를 더욱 발전시켜 인간은 신으로부터 태어나면서부터 받게 되는 신성한 권리를 누려야 하며 정부는 이런 권리를 법으로 인정해야 한다고 하였다. 그 이후 프랑스와 미국의 독립운동가, 또한 칸트와 같은 독일 철학자들은 이러한 이론을 민주정치로 현실화시키는데 앞장섰다. 현재는 거의 모든 민주국가의 헌법과 또한 국제법이 자연적 인권을 법의 기반으로 인정하고 있다. 오늘의 우리 사회는 인권과 자연법의 중요성을 이해하고 앞으로 이 전통을 이어나가 인간을 위한 법과 정책을 만들어야 한다. Human rights and natural law are inalienable for all people of the world. These laws have long historical roots. In Europe, the idea started even before Christianity. Greek and Roman philosophers such as Sophocles and Plato believed that humans are naturally entitled to basic rights. This concept was further developed by Christian scholars in the following centuries. Thomas Aquinas, the father of Christian theology, claimed that the human’s innate freedom comes from divinity and it should be duly recognized by the government. The French and American revolutionaries, and later German philosophers such as Kant, took upon themselves the duty to translate such theories into practical political democracy. Nowadays most democratic governments of the world carry the principle in their constitutions as a core fundamental concept. International law also recognizes basic human rights that emanated from natural law. Today’s society should study this line of thought and carry on the legacy of appreciating human rights.
Cyclodextrin-carbon nanotube composites for fluorescent detection of cholesterol

<P>The efficiency of cyclodextrin-carbon nanotube composites (CD-CNT) for cholesterol detection was investigated using their fluorescent yields in the presence of rhodamine 6G (R6G). The CD-CNT composites using alpha-, beta- and gamma-cyclodextrin (x-CD) all showed strong fluorescent responses to cholesterol when in the presence of R6G. The alpha-CD based composites, however, exhibit more dramatic fluorescent changes in response to cholesterol, over a wider range of cholesterol concentrations, and also display the highest binding constant of 2.98 x 10(5) M-1 with cholesterol. The effectiveness of these fluorescent responses for the detection of cholesterol depends primarily on the concentration and cavity size of the CD. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.</P>
Contact Load and Stiffness of Four-Point Contact Ball Bearings Under Loading

Four-point contact ball bearings (X-ACBBs) are highly effective in applications requiring support for shafts that feature a high ratio of diameter to unsupported axial length and axial loading in two directions. In an eff ort to predict and understand problems that have been reported in X-ACCB usage, new modeling and analysis of the contact load and stiff ness of X-ACBBs has been presented. The new model features a quasi-static model for X-ACBBs subjected to five degrees-of-freedom loading and displacement. The model was validated against numerical ball contact loads available in the literature. A numerical investigation was then performed to study the effects on ball contact loads and stiff ness of rotational speed, external loads, and various geometric parameters of bearings such as arching dimension and unloaded contact angle. Under pure axial load, increasing the rotational speed causes an abrupt change in X-ACBB stiff ness when the ball contact changes from two-point to three-point contact. Gyroscopic moment reduces the speed at which transition from two-point to three-point contact occurs. The dependence of X-ACBB stiff ness on arching dimension and unloaded contact angle reveals that those parameters are critical for the design of X-ACBBs.
