N,N,N',N'-Tetrabromobenzene-1,3-disulfonamide (TBBDA)/$PPh_3$ and N,N,N',N'-tetrachlorobenzene-1,3-disulfonamide (TCBDA)/$PPh_3$ are two highly reactive reagent systems for the conversion of alcohols corresponding into alkyl chlorides and bromides in moderate to excellent yields in dichloromethane at room temperature under mild and neutral conditions.

<P>The flux pinning mechanisms of nano-Si-doped MgB2 are reported in this work. The field dependence of the critical current density, <I>J</I>c(<I>B</I>), was analyzed within the collective pinning model. We found that the mechanisms for both δ<I>l</I> pinning, i.e., pinning associated with charge-carrier mean free path fluctuations, and δ<I>T</I>c pinning, which is associated with spatial fluctuations of the transition temperature, coexist in the nano-Si-doped MgB2 samples, while <I>H</I>c2 increases greatly with increasing nano-Si doping level. However, their contributions are strongly temperature dependent. The δ<I>l</I> pinning is dominant at low temperatures, decreases with increasing temperature, and is suppressed completely at temperatures close to the critical temperature, <I>T</I>c. However, the δ<I>T</I>c pinning mechanism shows opposite trends. </P>

Twenty-four Holstein dairy cows were used to evaluate the single and combined effects of different levels of crude protein (CP) and monensin treatment during early lactation on blood metabolites, milk yield and digestion of dairy cows. The experiment was designed as a completely randomized block with a $3{\times}2$ factorial arrangement of treatments. The factors were three concentrations of CP supplement (19.5, 21.4, and 23.4% of dry matter) and two levels of monensin (0 and 350 mg per cow per day). The experiment consisted of three phases and each phase was 3 wk in length. Monensin did not affect milk yield, lactose, solids-non-fat (SNF), blood glucose, triglyceride and DMI, but increased blood cholesterol, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), insulin and reduced blood ${\beta}$-hydroxybutyrate (BHBA), milk fat and protein percentage. Monensin premix significantly decreased rumen ammonia, but rumen pH and microbial protein synthesis were not affected by monensin treatment. Increasing dietary CP improved milk and protein production, but did not alter the other components of milk. Digestibility of NDF, ADF, CP were improved by increasing dietary CP. Increasing dietary CP from 19.5 to 21.4% had no significant effect on ruminal ammonia, but increasing CP to 23.4% significantly increased ruminal ammonia. There was a linear relationship between level of crude protein in the diet and volume of urine excretion. Microbial protein synthesis was affected by increasing CP level; in this way maximum protein synthesis was achieved at 23.4% CP.

A new and facile protocol for the synthesis of dithiocarabamate in EtOH/$H_2O$ is described. Reaction of aromatic and aliphatic amines with $CS_2$ and 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran in the presence of N,N,N',N'-tetrabromobenzene-1,3-disulfonamide [TBBDA] and poly(N-bromo-N-ethylbenzene-1,3-disulfonamide) [PBBS] gives the corresponding dithiocarbamates in good to high yields.
Impact of Fixed Series Capacitors and SSSC on the LOE Protection of Synchronous Generator

Loss of excitation (LOE) relay is prevalently used to protect synchronous generator. The widely used method for synchronous generator LOE protection is a negative offset mho relay with two zones. The basis of this relay is identical to mho impedance relay. In other words, this relay calculates impedance by measuring voltage and current at the generator terminal. On the other hand, the presence of series compensation, changes measured voltage and current signals during loss of excitation. This paper reveals that the presence of series compensators such as fixed series capacitors (FSCs) and static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) causes a significant delay on the performance of generator LOE relay. It is also shown that the presence of SSSC causes the LOE relay to be under-reached. Different operating modes of the power system, the SSSC and also different percentages of series capacitive compensations have been considered in the modeling. All the detailed simulations are carried out in the MATLAB/Simulink environment using the SimPowerSystems toolbox.
