Ligand effects in rhodium complexes for chemical NADH regeneration

Various (pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)-rhodium(III) complexes comprising aromatic bidentate ligands [(Cp*)Rh(L)Cl]+ (Cp* = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl, L = 2,20- bipyridine, 1,10-phenanthroline, and their derivatives) were prepared to compare their reactivities of chemical cofactor regeneration. When the catalytic NADH regeneration was performed with sodium formate, the reaction rates were compared with six Rh(III) complexes. The kinetics of the reactions including kinetic isotope effects are also studied in the chemical NADH regeneration. The Rh(III) complexes react with formate efficiently to afford the intermediates [(Cp*)Rh(L)(H)]+ and CO2. The electronic and steric effects of the ligands of the Rh complexes were observed on the reaction rates. The overall reaction rates of the NADH regeneration were also obtained using DCOO in H2O. Such H/D exchange rates of [(Cp*)Rh(L)(H)]+ and the observation of a deuterium kinetic isotope provide valuable mechanistic insight into the catalytic NADH regeneration.
Higher order free vibration of sandwich curved beams with a functionally graded core

In this paper, free vibration of a sandwich curved beam with a functionally graded (FG) core was investigated. Closed-form formulations of two-dimensional (2D) refined higher order beam theory (RHOBT) without neglecting the amount of z/R was derived and used. The present RHOBT analysis incorporated a trapezoidal shape factor that arose due to the fact that stresses through the beam thickness were integrated over a curved surface. The solutions presented herein were compared with the available numerical and analytical solutions in the related literature and excellent agreement was obtained. Effects of some dimensionless parameters on the structural response were investigated to show their effects on fundamental natural frequency of the curved beam. In all the cases, variations of the material constant number were calculated and presented. Effect of changing ratio of core to beam thickness on the fundamental natural frequency depended on the amount of the material constant number.
Help of Microcontroller on Voltage Control to Reduce Transformer Inrush Current

At the moment of transformer energization by the supply voltage, a high current called transient inrush current, which may rise to ten times the transformer full load current, could be drawn by the primary winding. This paper discusses a microcontroller circuit with the intention of controlling and limiting the inrush current for a transformer, by the method of ramping up the supply voltage feeding to the transformer primary. Simulations and the experimental results show a significant reduction of inrush current, when the ramping up voltage is applied to the three-phase transformer load. The inrush current could be almost eliminated if the correct switching step rate is chosen.

In this paper, we attempt to present a new numerical approach to solve non-linear backward stochastic differential equations. First, we present some definitions and theorems to obtain the conditions, from which we can approximate the non-linear term of the backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE) and we get a continuous piecewise linear BSDE correspond with the original BSDE. We use the relationship between backward stochastic differential equations and stochastic controls by interpreting BSDEs as some stochastic optimal control problems, to solve the approximated BSDE and we prove that the approximated solution converges to the exact solution of the original non-linear BSDE in two different cases.
A Bi-Objective Stochastic Closed-loop Supply Chain Network Design Problem Considering Downside Risk

This paper deals with a closed-loop supply chain network and proposes new approaches in metaheuristics and exact methods as solution methods. Moreover, the downside risk is incorporated into the objective functions as a risk measure. Hence, the developed two-stage stochastic model aims to minimize the expected total cost and the downside risk, simultaneously. Besides, this study presents the closed-loop network which considers the forward and reverse networks in an integrated manner. In the forward network, this case just considers the forward network, while, the reverse logistic fully focused on the backward network by considering recovering centers (i.e. from recovering centers to remanufacture, recycling and disposal centers). In order to address the problem, ICA, PSO, GA, and also ${\varepsilon}$-constraint method, are utilized. In addition, the parameters of algorithms are tuned by Response Surface Method (RSM) with an MODM approach. To explain the efficiency and effectiveness of methods, four assessment metrics are introduced. At the end, the results show the capability of ICA through the most of the tests problem. According to the risk management, a real data set is used to do some sensitivity analyses on the proposed model.
Expression of Cancer-Testis Antigens in Pediatric Cancers

Cancer-testis antigens (CTAs) are a group of tumor-associated antigens with more than 140 members whose expression has been shown to be limited to gametogenic tissues and placenta among normal tissues. However, malignant tissues of different origins have shown aberrant and elevated expression of these antigens. Such a pattern of expression endows beneficial properties for use as cancer biomarkers as well as immunotherapeutic targets as a result of the immune-privileged status of the testes. CTAs have been shown to be expressed in pediatric brain tumors, different types of sarcomas, leukemias, and lymphomas as well as neuroblastomas. Although data regarding their expression pattern in childhood tumors are not as comprehensive as for adult tumors, it is supposed that CTA-based immunotherapeutic approaches can also be used for pediatric cancers. However, there are limited data about the objective clinical responses following immunotherapy in such patients. Here we try to review the available information.

RHOXF1 has been shown to be expressed in embryonic stem cells, adult germline stem cells and some cancer lines. It has been proposed as a candidate gene to encode transcription factors regulating downstream genes in the human testis with antiapoptotic effects. Its expression in cancer cell lines has implied a similar role in the process of tumorigenesis. The human breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 were cultured in DMEM medium and transfected with a pGFP-V-RS plasmid bearing an RHOXF1 specific shRNA. Quantitative real-time RT-PCR was performed for RHOXF1, CASP8, BCL2 and HPRT genes. Decreased RHOXF1 expression was confirmed in cells after transfection. shRNA knock down of RHOXF1 resulted in significantly decreased BCL2 expression in both cell lines but no change in CASP8 expression. shRNA targeting RHOXF1 was shown to specifically mediate RHOXF1 gene silencing, so RHOXF1 can mediate transcriptional activation of the BCL2 in cancers and may render tumor cells resistant to apoptotic cell death induced by anticancer therapy. shRNA mediated knock down of RHOXF1 can be effective in induction of apoptotic pathway in cancer cells via BCL2 downregulation, so it can have potential therapeutic utility for human breast cancer.
Bladder Cancer Biomarkers: Review and Update

As the recurrence and mortality rates of bladder cancer are high, research is needed to find suitable biomarkers for early detection, evaluation of prognosis, and surveillance of drug responses. We performed a computerized search of the Medline/PubMed databases with the key words bladder cancer, biomarker, early detection, prognosis and drug response. Several markers were identified at DNA, RNA and protein levels with different sensitivities and specificities. Only a few of the potential bladder cancer biomarkers have been approved for clinical use. Efforts now should be concentrated on finding a panel of markers with acceptable sensitivity and specificity for early detection of bladder cancer.
