This was a prospective cohort study of 976 infants from birth to 12 months of age. Infants were fed breast milk, goat infant formula, cow infant formula, or a combination of formula and breast milk during the first 4 months of age. Data on type of milk feeding and infant growth (weight and height) were collected at birth and at 4, 8, and 12 months during routine clinical assessment. The number and consistency of bowel motions per day were recorded based on observational data supplied by the mothers. Infants fed breast milk or goat or cow infant formula during the first 4 months displayed similar growth outcomes. More of the infants fed cow infant formula had fewer and more well-formed bowel motions compared with breast-fed infants. The stool characteristics of infants fed goat formula resembled those of infants fed breast milk.
Effects of enzymatic hydrolysis of buckwheat protein on antigenicity and allergenicity

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Due to its beneficial health effects, use of buckwheat has shown a continuous increase, and concerns regarding the allergic property of buckwheat have also increased. This study was conducted for evaluation of the hydrolytic effects of seven commercial proteases on buckwheat allergens and its allergenicity. MATERIALS/METHODS: Extracted buckwheat protein was hydrolyzed by seven proteolytic enzymes at individual optimum temperature and pH for four hours. Analysis was then performed using SDS-PAGE, immunoblotting, and competitive inhibition ELISA (ciELISA) with rabbit antiserum to buckwheat protein, and direct ELISA with pooled serum of 21 buckwheat-sensitive patients. RESULTS: Alkaline protease, classified as serine peptidase, was most effective in reducing allergenicity of buckwheat protein. It caused decomposition of the whole buckwheat protein, as shown on SDS-PAGE, and results of immunoblotting showed that the rabbit antiserum to buckwheat protein no longer recognized it as an antigen. Allergenicity showed a decrease of more than 50% when pooled serum of patients was used in ELISA. Two proteolytic enzymes from Aspergillus sp. could not hydrolyze buckwheat allergens effectively, and the allergenicity even appeared to increase. CONCLUSIONS: Serine-type peptidases appeared to show a relatively effective reduction of buckwheat allergenicity. However, the antigenicity measured using rabbit antiserum did not correspond to the allergenicity measured using sera from human patients. Production of less allergenic buckwheat protein may be possible using enzymatic hydrolysis.
Effect of Design Instruction on Creativity
Da Eun Jun,Youngshin Kwak,SeonHee Jung,Gyouhyung Kyung 대한인간공학회 2012 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2012 No.11
Objective: The objective of this study is to find out the effect of design instruction on creative idea generation. Background: Creativity has been generally considered as an inherent cognitive ability. Some studies, however, demonstrated that creativity is not a special gift only for a few persons, but also potentially a learned skill. Therefore, the study of importance is the availability and application of methodological processes based on which people develop their creativity. Method: Four groups of students are provided different instructions to generate creative ideas for a new camera function. Group 1 was provided a problem scenario without any other special instruction. Group 2 and 4 were instructed to conduct a problem analysis before solving the problem scenario. Group 3 and 4 saw the ideas of groups 1&2 before generating their own idea. Overall creativity level of each idea generated was evaluated by six professors of School of Design and Human Engineering at UNIST. Results: Group 3 and 4 showed higher creativity scores than group 1 or 2. Participants with higher interest in camera and design showed higher scores. Conclusion: These results suggest that creativity is a quality of cognition which can be developed. Upcoming studies are expected to find out various methods to increase practical creativity. Application: This research can propose a methodological direction to developing creativity.
Exploring the Role of Lighting in Human-Product Interaction
Da-Eun Jun,Chajoong Kim,Youngshin Kwak 대한인간공학회 2014 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2014 No.5
Lighting enables humankind to visually perceive everything in the dark since they invented artificial lighting sources such as candle and light bulb. Nowadays lighting is used not only to brighten the space but also to play a more diverse roles in humanproduct interaction. For instance, the LED indicator on a battery charger lets the user recognize whether the batteries are fully charged or not. Although lighting is getting deeply pervasive to our daily lives, few studies on the interaction between human and lighting have been done. Therefore, this study aims to identify the role of lighting in human-product interaction. To figure out what kinds of role lighting plays in human-product interaction, literature study was conducted. Four roles of lighting were identified: Visibility, Information Transfer, Visual Aesthetic Enhancement and Emotion Induction. Based on the four roles, a conceptual framework was made in order to provide a better understanding of the relationship between human and lighting. Further implications to the design practice are discussed as well.

p21-activated kinase (PAK) targeting to the plasmamembrane is essential for PC12 cell neurite out-growth. Phospholipase C- g1 (PLC-g1) can mediatethe PAK translocation in response to growth factors, since PLC-g1 binds to both tyrosine-phosphorylatedreceptor tyrosine kinases and PAK through its SH2and SH3 domain, respectively. In the present study,we examined a potential role for PLC- g1 in the basicfibroblast growth factor (bFGF)-induced PAK trans-location using stable PC12 cell lines that over-expres in a tetracycline-inducible manner either thewild-type FGFR-1 or the Y766F FGFR-1 mutant.Phosphatidylinositol hydrolysis was increased 6.5-fold in response to bFGF in the wild type cels butnegligible in the mutant cells. The recombinant GST-PLC-g1 SH3 was able to bind to PAK1 but not GSTalone. However, examination of PLC- g1 as an adap-tor for translocation of PAK1 in cells showed thatboth cells transfected with pEGFP-PAK1 was able todifferentiate for 24 h, as visualized by laser confocalmicroscopy. Translocation of PAK1 to growth conesoccurs at similar levels in both wild and mutant cells. These results suggest that a protein(s) other thanPLC-g1 is functionally relevant for PAK targeting.
