The bacterium causing Johne’s disease (JD), Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP), is distributed worldwide and causes progressive intestinal disease, also known as paratuberculosis, in domestic and exotic ruminants, including cattle. The subclinical form of this disease results in progressive weight loss, reduced milk production, lower slaughter value, and premature culling, with possible impacts on fertility and udder health. Eventually, infection can lead to the clinical form that manifests chronic diarrhea, emaciation, debilitation, and eventual death. JD is a major cause of economic loss in cattle industry. In this study, serological testing was conducted by ELISA to determine the prevalence of MAP in Korean native cattle of Jeju during the duration of 2010 to 2013. A total of 5,150 blood sera were collected in 111 farms and the samples were classified into four different age groups for MAP; group 1 (2 years or less), group 2 (2∼4 years), group 3 (5∼7 years), and group 4 (over 8 years). Overall seroprevalence of MAP was 5.2% (269/5,150), and annually from 2010 to 2013, they were 11.6% (106/915), 2.1% (10/474), 5.5% (89/1,627), and 3.0% (64/2,134), respectively. Also, the prevalence rates was determined by age groups: 48 of group 1 (17.8%), 154 of group 2 (57.3%), 48 of group 3 (17.8%), and 19 of group 4 (7.1%) were seropositive for MAP. Although seropositive samples were found in all age groups, the highest seroprevalence was found in group 2. This study showed that during the investigation the seroprevalence of MAP tended to decrease.

It is impotent to identify the causative agents of abortion in equine for minimizing the loss of breeding costs in equine industry. Recently, the abortion has often occurred in equine herds and thus the purpose of the study was aimed at the identification of equine herpesvirus-1, one of the frequent pathogens to abortion, using polymerase chain reaction. Six fetuses to be aborted at nine to ten months in pregnancy reared in six herds were used in the study. Two primers in the PCR were made from glycoprotein B gene of EHV-1. The primers specific for EHV-1 amplified 1880 bp of PCR products from DNA extracts from thorax fluids, livers, lungs, and spleens of four in six aborted fetuses. Consequently, PCR could be applied to diagnose the abortion of EHV-1 and also confirmed to play a major role of the viral pathogen associated with equine abortion in Jeju island.
금홍석으로부터 이온교환에 의한 Potassium Octatitanate Whisker 의 합성

광물인 금흥석과 공업용 K₂CO₃를 사용하여 1000℃ ,3시간 그리고 K₂O에 대한 금흥석의몰비 2.0의 조건으로 초생상을 합성하였으며, 이를 비등수로 10시간 처리하여 중간상인 충상구조의 사티탄산칼륨을 합성하였다. 그리고 중간상을 0.005M의 염산으로 30분 동안 처리하여 KHTi₄O_9·1.1H₂O를 얻었으며, 이를 400∼600℃의 온도범위에서 열처리하여 길이 10㎛, 직경 0.2㎛의 팔티탄산칼륨을 합성하였다. The initial product was prepared by heating for 3 hrs at 1000℃ using a mixture of the rutile sand and industral K₂CO₃ in the molar ratio 2.0. And the intermediate product, fibrous potassium tetratitanate of layer structure, was obtained by the boiling water treatment of 10 hrs for initial product using the calcination method. Also KHTi₄O_9 . 1.1H₂O was synthesized by ion exchange reaction through the acid treatment for 30 min at 0.005 M HCl solution and then K₂Ti_8O_17 whisker of length =10㎛, diameter = 0.2㎛ was synthesized by heat treatment at temperature range of 400∼600℃.

KHSR(Korean High Speed Railway) had achieved the maximum speed of 350 km/h last year. And then, we have concentrated to improve the reliability of the overall system, in particular, motor block of the locomotive. In this paper, simple technique for operating PWM converters under the voltage distortion is introduced. In addition, the electrical braking technique is also made to have the braking capability under the dead zone. Test results revealed the verification of the proposed techniques.

일반적으로 쌍떡잎식물 국화과 허브의 한 종인 에키네시아는 미국 북미 대평원에 서식하는 야생 식물로 수세기 동안 감기나 또 다른 바이러스 감염에 의한 질병에 대하여 면역 기능을 증진시키는 전통 식물 약제로 널리 사용되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 생물반응장치를 이용하여 조직 배양된 에키네시아 식물체에 대하여 화장품 성분으로써 응용 가치를 평가하였다. 이미 몇몇 보고된 논문에서 에키네시아는 조직재생, 상처 치유, 그리고 염증 억제 등의 약리학적 활성에 대한 연구가 진행되었다. 본 연구에서는 생물반응장치를 이용하여 조직 배양된 에키네시아 추출물에 대하여 화장품 성분으로서 효능, 효과를 평가하였다. 실험 결과 조직배양된 에키네시아 추출물은 항산화 효과 및 단백분해효소 발현 억제효과가 자연 상태의 에키네시아 추출물과 비교하여 우수한 결과를 보였다. 이러한 결과들은 피부보호를 위한 화장품 성분으로서 응용 가능성을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. The Echinacea, which has been commonly known as a species of composite herb of dicotyledonous plant, has been used in native American traditional medicine for the treatment of diseases like colds or other infections in North America. We artificially cultured the adventitious roots of Echinacea angustifolia using the bioreactor culture system from Echinacea angustifolia and evaluated the efficacy as a cosmetic ingredient for skin care. Several studies previously have reported neogenesis, wound healing and inflammatory inhibition effect of Echinacea angustifolia but other efficacies were not well known. In the present study, we investigated the cosmetic efficacy to know applicable value of adventitious roots cultured from Echinacea angustifolia as a cosmetic ingredient. The adventitious roots extract of Echinacea angustifolia has superior anti-oxidant effect and matrix metalloproteinase-2 inhibitory effect, compared to natural Echinacea angustifolia. These results indicate that the adventitious roots extract cultured from Echinacea angustifolia presents a new possibility of being applicable to skin care and anti-wrinkle products as a cosmetic ingredient.
