Evaluation of Inorganic Mg-Zn-F Thin-Film Passivation for OLED Application

In this study, we have manufactured a Mg-Zn-F target by using magnesium fluoride (MgF2), which has better optical characteristics than the conventional oxide group passivation thin film and Zinc (Zn). Deposition was done by radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering to make a novel passivation thin film; then, its gas permeation properties were examined. The target was manufactured with various mixture ratios of MgF2 to Zn, 6 : 4, 5 : 5, 4 : 6 and 3 : 7; among those, thin films manufactured with a 4 : 6 ratio target showed the best gas barrier property. The thin films were deposited with targets having various ratios on polyethylene naphthalene (PEN) substrates by using a RF sputtering method. The thickness of the manufactured passivation film was about 200 nm and the water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) was 1×10-3 g/(m2·day), below the limit of the measuring equipment, when the humidity and the temperature were 90 % and 38˚, respectively and the optical transmission was above 80 %. From the experimental results, we found that inserting the Zn component improved the physical density of the MgF2 film and the gas barrier characteristics compared to oxide and oxynitride group passivations. Thus, the possibility of a new-type of inorganic thin film was confirmed.

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) is the secondary most common tumor in HIV-infected individuals. The AIDS-related lymphomas are a late manifestation of HIV infection and may increase in frequency as patients live longer with highly active antiretroviral therapy and effective prophylaxis of opportunistic infections. Histologically AIDS-related NHL are either high (2/3) or intermediate (1/3) grade lymphoma. We report a case of gastric Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in AIDS patient. Two years ago, she was diagnosed as HIV-infected individual in public hospital. She presented with epigastric pain and mass-like sensation. Under the impression of gastric cancer, subtotal gastrectomy was done. But, she diagnosed as diffuse large B cell lymphoma by histologic finding, immunohistochemical study. This is the first report of gastric Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma from AIDS patients in Korea(Korean J Med 62:223-229, 2002)

According to recent studies, the immunogenetic factors are thought to be account for a part of the etiopathogenesis of autoimmune thyroid disease. In Korea, there was one report on the relationship between HLA DR5, DR8, B13 and autoimmune thyroid disease. There were also several reports on a familial hereditary transmission of autoimmune thyroid disease in other countries but not in Korea. We describe the occurrence of autoimmune thyroid disease that affected three members of a family through three generations. This is the first report on familial hereditary transmission of autoimmune thyroid disease in Korea. We report on an 80-year-old woman who presented with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, her 53-year-old daughter who had Graves' disease, and her 29-year-old grand-daughter who had Graves' disease. In order to identify the immunogenetic influence in these cases, HLA haplotypes & thyroid autoantibody were studied. HLA DRB3*02 was obseved in each of the patents. HLA DQB1*0301, DR11, DQB1*05031 and DR14 were observed in the two cases. However, HLA B13, DR5 and DR8 were not observed. The patients are currently undergoing follow-up using PTU, methimazole and synthyroid medication
Catalytically-etched hexagonal boron nitride flakes and their surface activity

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) is a ceramic compound which is thermally stable up to 1000°C in air. Due to this, it is a very challenging task to etch h-BN under air atmosphere at low temperature. In this study, we report that h-BN flakes can be easily etched by oxidation at 350°C under air atmosphere in the presence of transition metal (TM) oxide. After selecting Co, Cu, and Zn elements as TM precursors, we simply oxidized h-BN sheets impregnated with the TM precursors at 350°C in air. As a result, microscopic analysis revealed that an etched structure was created on the surface of h-BN flakes regardless of catalyst type. And, X-ray diffraction patterns indicated that the air oxidation led to the formation of Co<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB>, CuO, and ZnO from each precursor. Thermogravimetric analysis showed a gradual weight loss in the temperature range where the weight of h-BN flakes increased by air oxidation. As a result of etching, pore volume and pore area of h-BN flakes were increased after catalytic oxidation in all cases. In addition, the surface of h-BN flakes became highly active when the h-BN samples were etched by Co<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> and CuO catalysts. Purpose:This study is intended to examine the motor skill learning on balance and coordination in the cerebellar injured rats by 3AP. Methods:This study selected 60 Sprague-Dawley rats of 8 weeks. Experiment groups were divided into four groups and assigned 15 rats to each group. Group Ⅰ was a normal control group(induced by saline); Group Ⅱ was a experimental control group(cerebellar injured by 3AP); Group Ⅲ was a group of motor skill learning after cerebellar injured by 3AP; Group Ⅳ was a group of treadmill exercise after cerebellar injured by 3AP. In each group, motor performance test, histologic observations, synaptophysin expression and electron microscopy observation were analyzed. Results:In motor performance test, the outcome of group Ⅱ was significantly lower than the group Ⅲ, Ⅳ (especially group Ⅲ)(p<.001). In histological finding, the experimental groups were destroy of dendrities and nucleus of cerebellar neurons. Group Ⅲ, Ⅳ were decreased in degeneration of cerebellar neurons(especially group Ⅲ). In immunohistochemistric response of synaptophysin in cerebellar cortex, experimental groups were decreased than group Ⅰ. Group Ⅲ`s expression of synaptophysin was more increased than group Ⅱ, Ⅳ. In electron microscopy finding, the experimental groups were degenerated of Purkinje cell. Conclusion:These result suggest that improved motor performance by motor skill learning after harmaline induced is associated with dynamically altered expression of synaptophysin in cerebellar cortex and that is related with synaptic plasticity.

BACKGROUND: Because dried herbal medicines have many active ingredients, it is not easy to determine the residue amount after extraction, partition and clean up of pesticides from them. Especially, liquid-liquid partition method is consuming many times and solvents. Macroporous diatomaceous earth(MDE) column was used to replace the separatory funnel for liquid-liquid extraction with dichloromethane to analyze the endosulfan and its metabolite. METHODS AND RESULTS: The residue analysis method using MDE column instead of liquid-liquid partition for determining insecticide endosulfan and its metabolite in 4 dried herbal medicines was developed by GC/MS. As a result, the recovery rates of the pesticides in 4 herbal medicines were ranged from 80.3 to 93.5% for α-endosulfan, from 81.0 to 100.3% for β-endosulfan and from 80.6 to 95.6% for endosulfan sulfate, respectively. The coefficients of variation for triplicate were ranged from 1.1 to 3.4%. CONCLUSION: The improved methods are more ecofriendly, safer, faster and less laborious than conventional method by KFDA.
