S-212 Sex differences in the Association between Fatty Liver Disease and Subclinical Atherosclerosis

Background:?Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) can predict future cardiovascular events in asymptomatic population.This study evaluated the association between the fatty liver disease and CIMT according to sex difference.?Methods:?The patients who had performed both abdomen and carotid ultrasound were evaluated retrospectively between Jun 2011 and December 2013. The differences of theCIMT values measured in the common carotid artery and the prevalence of carotid plaque between the fatty liver disease patients and patients with normal liver were evaluated according to gender. We defined subclinical atherosclerosis as a CIMT value higher than the 75th percentile or the presence of carotid plaque.?Results:?Among 1,211 patients, asignificantly higher proportion of men than women had fatty liver disease (51.4% vs. 30.1%, p<0.001). In addition,mean CIMT measurement was significantly larger in the men than the women (0.79±0.17mm vs. 0.76±0.17mm, p=0.001) and a significantly higher proportion of men had plaque (30.5% vs 20.2%, p<0.001).Interestingly, significantly larger mean CIMT values was shown in the women with fatty liver disease than the women with normal liver (0.81±0.17 mm vs. 0.73±0.17 mm, p=0.001), and a significantly higher prevalence of plaque in the women with fatty liver than with normal liver was shown (29.7% vs. 16.0%, p=0.001). However, there was no significant difference of mean CIMTvalues and the rates of plaque between the men with fatty liver and the men with normal liver. In multivariate analysis, fatty liver disease was independently associated with subclinical atherosclerosisin women (odds ratio (OR) 1.62; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.007-2.697, p=0.047). On the contrary, fatty liver disease was not significantly associated with subclinical atherosclerosis in men.?Conclusions:?Men had more fatty liver disease, higher CIMT values and more carotid plaque than the women, but the fatty liver disease was a useful prognosticator to predict atherosclerosis especially in the women. The women with fatty liver disease need focused follow up carotid ultrasound for early detection of the atherosclerosis and protection of the cardiovascular event.

본 논문에서는 태양전지-LED 시스템을 설계하여 부하·발전·배터리 용량을 산정하고, 상용 예비전력을 도입한 독립형 태양광발전시스템을 구현하였다. 또한, LED 조명부하에 대한 휘도 시뮬레이션 및균일성 검사를 거친 후, 이를 태양광발전시스템과 함께 설치하였다. 태양전지-LED 시스템에 대하여설계, 설치 및 운영에 관한 현장 시험을 통해 시스템의 신뢰성과 성능 및 제반 문제점을 확인하고, 태양광 에너지를 이용한 LED 표식장치의 다양한 응용을 위한 기초적 근거를 마련하였다.

We obtained metastasized melanoma tissue from a primary acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM) patient and established a melanoma cell line named primary culture of melanoma cell derived from lymph node (PML)-1. PML-1 cells had a light brown color and decreased the expression of melanogenesis markers, including tyrosinase (TYR), microphthalmia-associated transcription factor, and tyrosinase-related protein-1. To identify genes differentially regulated in PML-1 melanoma cells, we performed DNA microarray and two-dimensional matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry analyses. Among the candidate genes identified, we chose NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase-1 (NQO1) for further study. Reverse transcription–PCR and western blot analyses showed that NQO1 was markedly decreased in PML-1 cells and in several amelanotic melanoma cell lines. To investigate whether NQO1 affects the melanogenesis, we treated the cultured normal human melanocytes (NHMC) and zebrafish with NQO1 inhibitors, ES936 and dicoumarol. Interestingly, melanogenesis was significantly decreased by the addition of NQO1 inhibitors in both NHMC and zebrafish models. In contrast, overexpression of NQO1 using a recombinant adenovirus clearly induced melanogenesis, concomitantly with an increase of TYR protein level. These results suggest that NQO1 is a positive regulator of the pigmentation process.

This paper proposed a method to estimate the vertical delay from the slant delay, which can improve accuracy of the ionospheric correction of SBAS. Proposed method used Chapman profile which is a model for the vertical electron density distribution of the ionosphere. In the proposed method, we assumed that parameters of Chapman profile are given and the vertical ionospheric can be modeled with linear function. We also divided ionosphere into multi-layer. For the verification, we converted slant ionospheric delays to vertical ionospheric delays by using the proposed method and generated the ionospheric correction of SBAS with vertical delays. We used International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) model for the simulation to verification. As a result, the accuracy of ionospheric correction from proposed method has been improved for 17.3% in daytime, 10.2% in evening, 2.1% in nighttime, compared with correction from thin shell model. Finally, we verified the method in the SBAS user domain, by comparing slant ionospheric delays of users. Using the proposed method, root mean square value of slant delay error decreased for 23.6% and max error value decreased for 27.2%.

The volatiles of whole and homogenated tomato fruits collected by the headspace trapping method using Tenax GC and the simultaneous steam distillation method were identified by GC and GC-MS. Among over 100 GC peaks, 10 alcohols, 6 aldehydes, 4 ketones, 3 esters, 1 phenol and 1 acid were identified from hole tomato fruits, whereas 12 alcohols, 6 aldehydes, 5 ketones, 5 esters, 2 phenols, 1 hydrocarbon and 1 acid were identified from homogenated tomato fruits. By simultaneous steam distillation-extraction, 19 alcohols, 13 hydrocarbons, 9 esters, 9 ketones, 8 aldehydes, 2 phenols, 2 lactones, 2 furans, 1 acids and 2 others were identified among over 300 peaks.
The expression of ketohexokinase is diminished in human clear cell type of renal cell carcinoma

<P>For identification and targeting of tumor-associated marker proteins, the proteome of clear cell type of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and normal kidney tissues was analyzed by 2-DE. Ketohexokinase (also called fructokinase), which catalyzes the phosphorylation of fructose to fructose 1-phosphate, was identified by MALDI-TOF MS and found to be expressed at low rates in the renal tumor tissues. We found a decreased amount of ketohexokinase mRNA in RCC compared to that observed in the normal kidney tissues by Northern blot. The activity of ketohexokinase in 20 clear cell RCC specimens and the 20 corresponding normal kidneys was investigated, and its activity was shown to be approximately 1.4-fold lower in the RCC specimens than in the normal kidney. Ketohexokinase activity in tumor stage pT3 RCC was 1.5-fold lower than in pT1 RCC. The level of ketohexokinase activity in histological grade 3 RCC was 1.8-fold lower than that in grade 1 cancer. In addition, using in situ hybridization, it was revealed that ketohexokinase in the normal kidney tissue was confined to the proximal tubular epithelial cells, while the expression of ketohexokinase in RCC tissues was extremely low. Our research results show that the expression of human ketohexokinase was diminished in clear cell RCC.</P>

Phantom limb pain is a kind of neuropathic pain which annoy patient severely for life. Postamputation pain syndromes have been described after the loss of body parts, including the nose, tongue, breast, finger, teeth, testes, penis, bladder, and anus. Because many peripheral sensory nerve synapse in the dorsal horn of the appropriate spinal cord segment. That axons that form the dorsal columns only send collaterals to the segmental apparatus; their first synapse is in the medulla, raising the possibility that abnormal activity in the dorsal column nuclei could also play a role in phantom sensation. After centralization, abnormal ephatic relays occur, patients complain of burning pain, cramping pain, proximal lancinating pain, and dullness. Now many remedies are available but a panacea dose not exit. Ketamine is an antagonist of the N-methyl-D-aspartate ( NMDA ) receptor that gas a crucial role in central sensitization. We met a 53 years old man who had suffered from phantom limb pain. He complain of tactile, stabbing, cramping, cold allodynia, paresthesia and burning pain. We tried nerve blocks two times and medicated various drugs but the outcome was not satisfactory. We tried ketamine infusion theraphy. We use PCA(Patient Controlled Analgesia) machine. Ketamine basal Infusion dose is 0.5mg/hr, bolus dose is Img, lockout interval is ten minutes. The patient injected ketamine for fifteen days. The result was excellent.
