<P>Introduction – Kudzu root (Radix puerariae) is a rich source of isoflavones that are effective in preventing osteoporosis, heart disease and symptoms associated with menopause. The major isoflavonoids in kudzu root extracts were reported as puerarin, daidzin and daidzein. Recently, an unknown isoflavonoid (compound 1) was detected from one-year-old kudzu root cultivated in Vietnam.</P><P>Objective – To identify a novel compound 1 in kudzu root extract and determine the structure of the compound by ESI<SUP>+</SUP> TOF MS-MS, <SUP>1</SUP>H-, <SUP>13</SUP>C-NMR and enzymatic hydrolysis.</P><P>Methodology – Samples were prepared by extraction of one-year-old kudzu root with 50% ethanol and the isoflavonoids were purified using recycling preparative HPLC. Unknown compound 1 was detected using UV-light at 254 nm in TLC and HPLC analyses. The molecular weight of 1 was determined using a TOF mass spectrometer equipped with an electrospray ion source. The structure of 1 was determined from the <SUP>13</SUP>C and <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR spectra recorded at 100.40 and 400.0 MHz, respectively.</P><P>Results – ESI<SUP>+</SUP> TOF MS-MS analysis shows that 1 is a puerarin diglycoside. The interglycosidic linkage of diglycoside determined by <SUP>1</SUP>H-, <SUP>13</SUP>C-NMR, and enzymatic hydrolysis suggests that 1 has a glucosyl residue linked to puerarin by an α-1,6-glycosidic bond. This compound is the first naturally-occurring 8-[α-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl]daidzein in kudzu root. The concentration of glucosyl-α-1,6-puerarin in kudzu root was 2.3 mg/g as determined by HPLC.</P><P>Conclusion – The results indicate that puerarin diglycoside is one of the major isoflavonoids in kudzu root and has a significant impact on the preparation of highly water-soluble glycosylated puerarin. Rotavirus and hepatitis A virus (HAV) spread by the fecal-oral route and infections are important in public health, especially in developing countries. Here, two antigenic epitopes of the HAV polyprotein, domain 2 (D2) and domain 3 (D3), were recombined with rotavirus VP7, generating D2/VP7 and D3/VP7, cloned in a baculovirus expression system, and expressed in Spodoptera frugiperda 9 (Sf9) insect cells. All were highly expressed, with peak expression 2 days post-infection. Western blotting and ELISA revealed that two chimeric proteins were antigenic, but only D2/VP7 was immunogenic and elicited neutralizing antibody responses against rotavirus and HAV by neutralization assay, implicating D2/VP7 as a multivalent subunit-vaccine Candidate for preventing both rotavirus and HAV infections.
체세포 염색체 배가법을 이용한 백합 OA 종간 잡종의 불임극복과 후대획득

본 연구는 나리의 종간잡종 육성체계를 확립하기 위한 기초자료를 얻고자 Oriental과 Asiatic 잡종 (OA-hybrid) 의 후대 획득에 필요한 실험을 수행하여 얻은 결과이다. 체세포 배수화를 통한 이질 4배체 OA-hybrid 3계통으로 화분발아 실험을 수행한 결과, 0-80% 범위로 계통간 차이가 현저하였다. 이질 4배체 OA-hybrid를 자방친 또는 화분친으로 사용하고 Asiatic 또는 Oriental hybrid와 교배시 후대 획득수에 차이가 있었는데 4배체 OA-hybrid를 화분친으로 이용하였을 때, 그리고 상대친을 Asiatic hybrid로 교배하였을 때 후대획득이 현저히 용이하였다. 그러나, 이질 4배체 F$_1$ OA-hybrid를 자방친으로 사용하거나 Oriental hybrid와 교배하면 후대 획득률이 현저히 저하되거나 또는 전혀 후대생산이 이루어지지 않았다. 이질 4배체 F$_1$ OA-hybrid와 교배시 상대친의 ploidy level은 4배체 보다는 2배체가 유리하였다. This study was carried out to develop the efficient methods for the subsequent progeny of intersectional hybrid between Oriental and Asiatic lily hybrids. The pollen fertility and germination ability of 3 different allotetraploids (OAOA) after somatic chromosome doubling was ranged from 0 to 80 percent on artificial pollen germination medium. The number of BC$_1$ progeny using allotetraploid of F$_1$ OA-hybrid as male and female parent was different. The efficiency of BC$_1$ progeny production was increased when F$_1$OA-hybrids was used as male rather than as female parent. And in back crosses of F$_1$ OA-hybrids with the Asiatic and Oriental hybrids, Asiatic hybrids showed higher efficiency on BC$_1$ progeny production. The ploidy level between 2x or 4x Asiatic hybrid and allotetraploid F$_1$ OA-hybrid was determined and showed higher progeny production in 2x-4x crosses rather than 4x-4x.
Determinants of Trade Flows and Trade Structure between Korea and ASEAN

Our paper contributes to existing literature by empirically investigate the trade structure and trade performance between Korea and ASEAN. Overall, trade activities between Korea and almost major ASEAN economies have significantly focused on capital goods, medium and high technology goods, while the remaining ASEAN countries’ exports over Korea have been mainly primary and low technology goods. There has been a higher complementarity in between Korea’s exports and ASEAN’s imports compared with between ASEAN’s exports and Korea’s imports. Estimation results show that ASEAN’s GDP and income have larger impacts than those of Korea on aggregate trade flows as well as sectoral level between two sides. Additionally, geographical conditions are critical factors impeding Korea-ASEAN trade. Meanwhile, other factors in the estimation model have mixed impacts on components of Korea-ASEAN trade structure. Finally, there is a significant room for Korea’s trade expansion with ASEAN, particularly new and less developed members in future.
2n-화분을 생산하는 Oriental-Asiatic 백합 종간잡종 후대의 GISH방법에 의한 염색체 분석

This study was carried out to analyze the chromosome composition and homoeologous recombination of subsequent progenies, derived from cross of Oriental-Asiatic (OA) interspecific hybrid producing 2n-gametes, by GISH technique. GISH analysis of F₁ OA interspecific hybrid ‘2nOA-001’, which produced 2n-gametes, showed 24 chromosomes consisting of 12 chromosomes from Oriental hybrid and 12 chromosomes from Asiatic hybrid. The subsequent backcross progeny of A × OA (2x-2x) crosses produced diploid plants with all Asiatic chromosomes (2x=24) and some triploids (O=12 and A=24), and one aneuploid 2n=35 (O=11 and A=24). Seven plants were produced in the line of ‘AOA-006’, among them, it was confirmed that three plants were homoeologous recombination with 1 or 2 breakpoints at short- or long-arm randomly. In case of O × OA (2x-2x) crosses, all plants showed 2n=24 chromosomes that originated from Oriental hybrid and no homoeologous recombination. In case of OA × A (2x-2x) crosses, triploid plants (O=12, A=24) were formed without any homoeologous recombination. All progenies were tetraploid plants in the cross of OA × OO (2x-4x) showing 36 chromosomes that originated from Oriental hybrid and 12 chromosomes originated from Asiatic hybrid, without any homoeologous recombinations.
Design Approach for Additive Manufacturing of a Dynamically Functioning System: Lifeboat Hook

The design freedom provided by Additive Manufacturing (AM) enables the part consolidation (PC) of sophisticated mechanical assemblies. However, PC has been mainly performed for static components in assemblies with nonmoving parts. In this regard, a new approach to assembly-level Design for Additive Manufacturing (A-DfAM) considering an industrial lifeboat hook assembly with a functionally dynamic system is proposed. The methodology comprises steps starting from inputting the Computer-Aided Design (CAD) fi les for the 3D printing of the final assembly and evaluation. Throughout the design stages, opportunistic and restrictive natures of DfAM within our methodology direct engineers and designers to manufacture optimized products. In addition, a comparative assessment of the original and fi nal assemblies is also illustrated. Consequently, a significant part-count reduction after PC was achieved, and the prototype of the lifeboat hook components was printed via laser-powder bed fusion (L-PBF). This shows that by incorporating the suggested A-DfAM framework, it can serve as a potential guide to whoever intends to manufacture dynamic assemblies.
