<P>In the present study, we investigated neuronal death/damage in the gerbil hippocampal CA1 region (CA1) and compared changes in some trophic factors, such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), in the CA1 between the adult and young gerbils after 5 min of transient cerebral ischemia. Most of pyramidal neurons (89%) were damaged 4 days after ischemia-reperfusion (I-R) in the adult; however, in the young, about 59% of pyramidal neurons were damaged 7 days after I-R. The immunoreactivity and levels of BDNF and VEGF, not GDNF, in the CA1 of the normal young were lower than those in the normal adult. Four days after I-R in the adult group, the immunoreactivity and levels of BDNF and VEGF were distinctively decreased, and the immunoreactivity and level of GDNF were increased. However, in the young group, all of their immunoreactivities and levels were much higher than those in the normal young group. From 7 days after I-R, all the immunoreactivities and levels were apparently decreased compared to those of the normal adult and young. In brief, we confirmed our recent finding: more delayed and less neuronal death occurred in the young following I-R, and we newly found that the immunoreactivities of trophic factors, such as BDNF, GDNF, and VEGF, in the stratum pyramidale of the CA1 in the young gerbil were much higher than those in the adult gerbil 4 days after transient cerebral ischemia.</P>

The bony spur formation without degenerative change in the lumbar spines in the young age group is quite interesting and is not uncommon. This bony spur is different from the degenerative spur in the old age group in shape and mechanism of formation. The authors analyzed 25 patients below 29 years old with such posterior lumbar bony spur. We concluded that posterioly lacated Schmorl's node is main cause of the bony pour in young age group at lumbar region.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical effect of the non-pharmacological anti-hypertension method, acupuncture, for hypertensive patients. Methods : 26 patients diagnosed with hypertension were each treated by one of three methods: an anti-hypertension drug(adalat soft capsule), venepuncture, and acupuncture. In cases of rising blood pressure, patients were treated by their one of the three methods, and blood pressure was measured at regular intervals. Result : As for the group of acupuncture treated patients on Young-gol(ling-gu) and Gang-ap-hyul(jiang-ya-xue), readings dropped 18.0mmHg in systolic blood pressure and 6.50mmHg in diastolic blood pressure. This was a greater effect than that seen in the venepuncture treated patients. Blood pressure checked one hour after acupuncture treatment showed a greater difference than blood pressure checked after thirty minutes. Conclusion : Safe reductions in blood pressure were observed through the non-pharmacological method of acupuncture on Young-gol(ling-gu) and Gang-ap-hyul(Jiang-ya-xue).

Classification and Labelling system of Chemicals is a very important element for management of chemical safety. Classification and labelling system of Chemicals is very different among countries. This becomes a barrier for transportation of chemicals across counties. Recently, several international organizations (OECD,UNEP,ILO etc.) endeavor to harmonize classification and labelling of chemicals. In this study, we analyze classification and labelling system of chemical described in several regulations of our country, and examine acivities of IOMC(Inter-Organization Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals)for harmonization of classification and labelling of chemicals. The Toxic Chemical Control Law, the Fire Services Law and the Industrial Safety and Health Law are the major regulation of management of chemical safety. Classification and labelling systems of chemical vary among several regulations. Particularly, labelling system of chemicals in transport vehicles are not appropriate in response to chemical accident. We suggest that task force team consisted with inter-administrative branches is needed to harmonize classification and labelling of chemicals, and recommend the introduction of UN number in labelling systems of chemicals in transport vehicles.
이비인후과 영역의 급성염증성질환 치료에 대한 Azithromycin의 임상연구

Azithromycin is a novel aszlide antibiotic with a spectrum of activity broadly similar to that of crythromycin. However, it show substantially better potency in vitro against Hemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrheae, Mycoplasma hominis and Citrobacter diversus than erythromycin. Acitivity in vitro against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Legionella, Branhamella group A and D Streptococcus, and Staphylococcus aureus in essentially similar to that of erythromycin. The objective of this study is to determine the efficacy, safety and toleration of azithromycin in the treatment of patients with acute otitis media, acute sinusitis and acute tonsillitis. We analysed 30 patients who were treated with azithromycin through the open-noncomparative study. Azthromycin was administered orally once daily at a dose of 500㎎ on day 1 followed by 250 ㎎/day on day 2-5. Azithromycin appeared to be an effective safe and simplified treatment for acute infectious diseases in Ent field.
시ㆍ공간 엔트로피 기반 3D-DCT 프레임간 동영상 부호화

본 논문은 동영상에서 프레임 간의 압축률을 높이기 위해 3D-DCT에 의한 확률 엔트로피(3D-PEDCT : Probability Entropy in three dimension DCT) 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 실험결과, 3D-PEDCT는 Miss America와 Sales Man의 경우 각각 PSNR이 36.23dB와 34.57dB의 해상도를 보였고, 압축률은 0.18~0.2 bit/pixel 정도로 나타났다. 이것은 기존의 알고리즘인 H.261과 H.261보다 2~3dB 정도 우수하면서 압축률도 0.08~0.122 bit/pixel 정도로 개선되었다. In this paper, a probability entropy algorithm based on the 3D-DCT(3D-PEDCT) is proposed to decrease the bit rate of the interframe for moving image. In the result, the PSNR of the Miss America was 36.23dB and the PSNR of the Sales Man was 34.67dB using 3D-PEDCT. These compression ratios using 3D-PEDCT were about 0.18-0.2 bit/pixel. This algorithm was improved about 2~3dB compared with other algorithm such as H.261 and H.263, and the compression ratios were improved about 0.08∼0.122bit/pixel.
