Study on Leaf Production of Angelica acutiloba by Mulching with Polyethylene Film
Choi,Seong-Kyu,Yun,Kyeong-Won,Chon,Sang-Uk,Seo,Young-Nam,Seo,Kyoung-sun,Kwon,Byung-Sun 한국자원식물학회 2003 Plant Resources Vol.6 No.3
This study was conducted to produce effectively more leaves of Angelica acutiloba through year-round production system by using various mulching materials and polyethylene(PE) tunnel. Soil temperature by covering treatment was higher in PE mulching and PE tunnel than in rice straw mulching, especially showing the highest temperature in PE tunnel from April through May. Water content of soil was higher in PE mulching than in non-mulching. Leaf production of Angelica acutiloba through year-round production showed the highest in PE tunnel and root production in PE mulching. These results suggest that leaf production of Angelica acutiloba can be maximized through PE tunnel cultivation system.
Effect of Activated Charcoal on Growth of Zingiber mioga ROSC
Choi,Seong-Kyu,Yun,Kyeong-Won,Chon,Sang-Uk,Seo,Young-Nam,Seo,Kyoung-Sun,Kwon,Byung-Sun 한국자원식물학회 2004 Plant Resources Vol.7 No.2
Activate charcoal (AC) can be utilized as a soil conditioner in agricultural crop areas. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of AC on growth and yield of Zingiber mioga ROSC as affected by different amounts of AC. The results obtained are summarized as follows. Growth characteristics including plant height and leaf length were the highest when activated charcoal added with 10-30%, suggesting that optimum amount of activated charcoal was ranged from 10 to 30%. Growth and enlargement of the root were improved by 10% AC with higher rhizome length and weight.
A Study on Storage of a Major Herbal Medicine Material, Peucedani Radix
Choi,Seong-Kyu,Yun,Kyeong-Won,Kwon,Byung-Sun 한국자원식물학회 2002 Plant Resources Vol.5 No.2
To develop optimal storage method of root of Peucedani Radix, which has been grown as major cultural herbal medicine material, root of Peucedani Radix was stored for 10 months with different packing materials and sealing methods. The loss in dry weight as influenced by packing materials and sealing methods was the lowest at vacuum packing and followed by complete sealing methods with transparent polyethylene film. The ratio of root rot during the storage period was not significantly different between packing materials but was significantly different between sealing conditions. Conclusively vacuum packing and complete sealing with polyethylene film appears to be optimal for storage of Peucedani Radix.

Fibromuscular dysplasia is the second-most commonly encountered anatomic abnormality in potential renal donors. Normotensive patients with medial fibroplasia and low-grade lesions have been used as renal donors. However, no studies have reported the optimal choice of a kidney for donation where the kidney with fibromuscular dysplasia had a larger volume and a higher glomerular filtration rate than the unaffected side. Herein, we report a case of renal transplant using a kidney with fibromuscular dysplasia that had higher glomerular filtration rate than the normal side. After transplant, hypertension and abnormal serum creatinine did not occur in either the donor or the recipient during 12 months' follow-up.

Cortical malformation-associated epileptic seizures are resistant to conventional anticonvulsant drugs. Relatively little research has been conducted on the effects of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) on seizure activity in a rat model of dysplasia. We have used rats exposed to methylazoxymethanol acetate (MAM) in utero, an animal model featuring nodular heterotopia, to investigate the effects of ethosuximide (ETX) in the dysplastic brain. Pilocarpine was used to induce acute seizure in MAM-exposed and age-matched vehicle-injected control animals. Field potential recordings were used to monitor the amplitude and number of population spikes, and paired pulse inhibition in response to stimulation of the commissural pathway. Pharmaco-resistance was tested by measuring seizure latencies after pilocarpine administration (320 mg/kg, i.p.) with and without pre-treatment with ETX. Pre-treatment with 300 mg of ETX significantly prolonged the latency to the status epilepticus (SE) in both control and MAM-treated groups. Pre-treatment with ETX 100mg and ETX 200 mg had little effect in MAM- exposed rats. However, ETX 200 mg prolonged the latency to the SE in control groups. Spontaneous field potential and secondary after-discharges were higher for MAM-treated rat in comparison with control rats injects with ETX. The main findings of this study are that acute seizures initiated in MAM-exposed rats are relatively resistant to standard ETX assessed in vivo. These data suggest that ETX do not prolong seizure latencies in MAM-rats exposed to pilocarpine.

Background: Endobronchial ultrasound-transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) is currently performed first for the mediastinal nodal staging of non-small lung cancer (NSCLC). However, unsuspected lymph node metastases leading to upstaging are found during the final histopathologic evaluation of surgical specimens. Purpose of our study was to evaluate the characteristics of upstaged lymph nodes and the its effects on survival in patients with NSCLC. Methods: We performed a retrospective review from 2009 to 2019 at tertiary-care academic hospital. Patients who diagnosed NSCLC with post-operative pathologic N2 positive lymph node were included. Nodal upstaging was defined as the unexpected pathological finding of metastasis in N2 nodes in patients who were presumed to have clinical N0 or N1 with preoperative staging. Results: Of 177 patients with positive N2 node postoperatively, overall rate of nodal upstaging was 53.1% (94 patients). The baseline characteristics did not differ significantly between upstaged and unchanged patients. Upstaged patients were more likely to receive adjuvant chemotherapy compared to unchanged patients. Culprit nodes leading to upstaging were subcarinal (38.3%), paratracheal (36.2%), and aortic nodes (21.3%). The size of upstaged node was less than 5mm in EBUS. Threeyear mortality was not different between two groups, but lower rate of mortality was observed after excluding inaccessible lymph node. Progression-free survival was significantly higher in the upstaged patients. Conclusion: Nodal upstaging was mainly attributed to the small mediastinal nodes or aortic nodes that are not accessible by EBUS-TBNA and did not influence three-year mortality. After excluding inaccessible lymph node, even higher survival was found in the upstaged patients than the unchanged patients with the same stage.
