        Effect of Lactic Acid on the Photoelectrocatalytic Water Splitting of Hematite Prepared by Hydrothermal Method

        The photoelectrocatalytic water splitting performance of the pristine hematite is limited because of its poor bulk chargeseparation efficiency. In this study, the lactic acid modified hematite films were grown in situ on Fluorine-doped tin oxidesubstrates by hydrothermal method and then annealed in nitrogen atmosphere. At 1.5 V versus RHE, the photocurrent densityof the optimal lactic acid modified hematite photoanode (0.075LA-Fe2O3) was 1.5 mA cm−2, which was three times that ofthe based hematite (0.5 mA cm−2). The enhanced photoelectrocatalytic performance of the lactic acid modified hematitewas attributed to its increased bulk charge separation efficiency caused by the oxygen vacancies and island-like pattern, aswell as its improved surface charge injection efficiency. The effect of lactic acid on the morphology, crystalline structure andphotoelectrocatalytic performance of the hematite photoanode are studied by systematical characterization.

        Experimental Feasibility Research on a High-efficiency Cement-based Clay Stabilizer

        In many civil engineering constructions, soft clayey soils are often stabilized with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) whose production process is energy intensive and emits a large quantity of CO2. In this paper, an OPC-based clay stabilizer (CSCN) which contains some eco-friendly materials is studied to compare with OPC by investigating the mechanical properties of the stabilized clays. Microstructural and mineralogical studies using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) are performed to reveal the mechanisms controlling the development of the strength and modulus. The test results indicate that the compressive strength and secant modulus increase with increasing the content of CSCN and curing age. To achieve the equivalent improvement of the strength and modulus, much less CSCN is needed relative to OPC, which illustrates that CSCN can be a more effective and relatively eco-friendly clay stabilizer. The analysis on pH values and moisture consumption indicates that the hydration and pozzolanic reactions in CSCN-stabilized clays may be quicker than those in OPC-stabilized clays. The microstructural analyses confirm the formation of C-S-H gels in stabilized clays and the types of C-S-H gels are dependent upon the Ca/Si molar ratio according to EDX results. The types and amounts of new minerals in stabilized clays are the possible mechanisms controlling the enhancement of mechanical properties.

        Carbon Coated α‑Fe2O3 Photoanode Synthesized by a Facile Anodic Electrodeposition for Highly Efficient Water Oxidation

        This work provides a facile anodic electrodeposition method for synthesizing carbon coated α-Fe2O3 photoanode followedby annealing treatment with argon atmosphere. Compared with bare hematite photoanode, the carbon coated α-Fe2O3 photoanodesannealed at lower temperature (Fe2O3/C-L) and higher temperature (Fe2O3/C-H) have higher photocurrent densityas 0.3 and 0.5 mA cm−2 (at 1.23 V vs. RHE), respectively. The excellent PEC performance is attributed to the synergisticreaction of carbon and vacancy oxygen. The morphology and properties of the sample were characterized with scanningelectron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV–Vis spectra, X-raydiffractometry, X-ray photoelectron spectra, and photoelectrical measurements.

        Black light trap collections in Wangging county and Yanji city, Jilin Province, China, August 2006–2007

        Adult mosquito surveillance was conducted using black light traps in August of 2006 and 2007 at Wangging county and Yanji city, Jilin Province, China to identify the distribution of anopheline mosquitoes in northern China. A total of 2459 female mosquitoes comprising three genera and eight species including Anopheles (Anopheles) lesteri, An. (Ano.) kleini, An. (Ano.) pullus, Culex inatomii, Cx. orientalis, Cx. pipiens, Cx. bitaeniorhynchus and Aedes vexans nipponii were collected. The most commonly collected species was An. kleini which had not been previously reported from China. Anopheles sinensis sensu stricto is commonly collected throughout China, but was not collected from these areas.
