      • Long second toe: its nail and skin changes

        Background: Nail can be affected by trauma, infection, and systematic disorders. In particular, the toe nails are exposed to the repeated and cumulative minor traumas, which usually result in thickened, splitted, and discolorated nails. Considering these, it can be inferred that the long second toe can be related to various nail and skin changes by repeated minor traumas such as friction in shoes, but the study or report on this topic hasn’t been done yet. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to introduce various nail and skin changes on long second toe. Methods: We analyzed the kinds of nail/skin changes of 50 patients with long second toe, enrolled at Pusan National University Hospitals (Busan and Yangsan) from 2013 to 2018. Results: There was no significant difference in the incidence of left and right toe and toenail, and 7 (14%) patients presented bilateral distribution. The most common nail change on long second toe was melanonychia (23, 46%), followed by subungual hematoma (15, 30%), onycholysis (2, 4%), subungual hyperkeratosis (2, 4%), onychomadesis (1, 2%), and retronychia (1, 2%). The most common skin change was corn (9, 18%), followed by paronychia (2, 4%). Twenty (20/50, 40%) patients also had other toe or toenail changes. Among them, the most common site was big toe/nail (13, 62%), and the most common change was subungual hematoma (8, 42%). Conclusion: Through this study, the dermatologists can recognize and diagnose the nail and skin changes of long second toe.

      • Dermoscopic findings of metastatic skin cancers: a single center experience

        Background: Though skin metastasis is rare, it can seriously affect the prognosis and management. The role of dermoscopy in primary skin cancers are established well, but its role in skin metastasis hasn’t been clear. Objectives: This study was performed to elucidate the dermoscopic patterns of metastatic skin cancers. Methods: We analyzed the dermoscopic patterns and clinical data of 46 patients with metastatic skin cancers at Pusan National University Hospitals (Busan and Yangsan) from 2005 to 2018. Results: Mean age and disease free interval were 62.0±14.2 years and 29.2±41.2 months, respectively. The most common primary origin of cancer was breast (11/46, 23.9%), followed by lung (8/46, 17.4%), and upper gastrointestinal tract (8/46, 17.4%). Any dermoscopic patterns was not found in 8 cases, who showed subcutaneous nodules without surface change. Most common dermoscopic pattern was vascular pattern (30/46, 65.2%), followed by homogenous structureless pattern (16/46, 34.8%). Most common vascular pattern was serpentine and arborizing vessel (23/46, 50%), followed by dotted vessel (7/46, 15.2%). There was no significant difference in dermoscopic vascular pattern among cancers, because the number of subjects was insufficient. Conclusion: Based on our study, when vascular patterns such as serpentine and arborizing vessel or dotted vessel are seen on dermoscopy within a nodule in a patient already diagnosed with cancer, metastatic skin cancer should be strongly considered.

      • 각종 단백질 사료의 반추위내 분해도 및 하부 장기내 소화율에 관한 연구

        본 연구는 반추가축사료의 단백질 이용효율을 높이기 위한 방안으로 국내 사료회사에 주로 이용하고 있는 단백질 사료의 반추위내 분해단백질(RDP)과 비분해단백질(UDP) 및 소장에서도 흡수되지 않는 이용불능단백질 함량들을 측정하기 위하여 실시하였다. 반추위와 십이지장에 캐뉼라를 부착한 젖소에 in sacco와 mobile bag 기술을 이용하여 여러 가지 원산지와 종류가 다른 단백질 원료사료의 반추위내 분해율과 소장 내에서의 이용성을 평가한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 나일론백을 이용한 반추위내 단백질 분해율을 측정한 결과 UDP가에 있어 우모분(78.0), 옥수수글루텐(75.2), 어분(64.9), 알팔파 펠렛(46.6), 면실박(44.9), 채종박(42.9), 캐놀라박(41.4), 참깨박(40.6), 대두박(39.2), 해바라기씨박(30.4) 순으로 나타났다. 2. 11가지 사료를 mobile bag을 이용하여 전장 소화율을 측정한 결과 건물 소화율은 49.1%(야자박)에서 97.5%(대두박)까지, 단백질 소화율은 71.5%(우모분)에서 99.6%(대두박), 소화 가능한 UDP 함량은 63.5%(대두박)에서 99.0%(우모분)의 범위를 나타내었다. 3. 우모분, 알팔파 펠렛 및 어분 등과 같이 소화 가능한 UDP 함량이 낮은 것은 비소화성 섬유소에 결합되어 있는 ADF-N 함량도 다른 시료보다 매우 높았다. 4. 알팔파 펠렛은 지나친 열변성으로 인해 ADF-N 함량이 사료들 중에서 가장 높았으며 이로 인해 전장 단백질 소화율은 물론 소화 가능한 UDP함량도 매우 낮은 것으로 나타났다. This study was conducted to estimate the amount of rumen degradable protein(RDP), undegradable rumen dietary protein(UDP) and digestible UDP, thereby utilizing dietary protein sources in ruminant diets more effectively. Ruminally and intestinally cannulated cows were used for in sacco and mobile bag techiniques to estimate ruminal degradability and intestinal availability of protein feed ingredients. The results obtained were as follows; 1. Based on in sacco data, UDP values were ranked as feather meal(78.0), corn gluten meal(75.2), fish meal(64.9), alfalfa pellet(46.6), cottonseed meal(44.9), rapeseed meal(42.9), cannola meal(41.4), sesame oil meal(40.6), soybean meal(39.2), sunflower oil meal(30.4). 2. Actual degradabilities in total digestive tract for 11 selected feeds varied from 49.1%(palm kernel meal) to 97.5%(soybean meal) for DM and from 71.5%(feather meal) to 99.6%(soybean meal) for protein, and digestible UDP contents ranged from 63.5%(soybean meal) to 99.0%(feather meal). 3. Feather meal, alfalfa pellet and fish meal, containing low amount of digestible UDP, also have high concentrations of acid detergent fiber bound N(ADF-N) which is unavailable for animals. 4. Alfalfa pellet has highest in ADF-N concentrations among protein ingredients due to extreme heat damage, thus protein degradability in total digestive tract was also very low.

        Maskless lithography 응용을 위한 마이크로렌즈 어레이 개발

        마스크리스 리소그래피(maskless lithography)에 응용하기 위한 마이크로렌즈 어레이(microlens array, MLA)가 석영의 습식 식각과 UV 접착제(UV adhesive)의 코팅을 바탕으로 개발되었다. 제작된 MLA의 초점거리는 ${\sim}45\;{\mu}m$ 정도였으며, 집광되는 광선의 초점은 ${\sim}1\;{\mu}m$로 측정되었다. MLA를 통과하며 초점을 맺은 빔(beam)의 크기 및 세기가 charge coupled device (CCD) 카메라와 빔 프로파일러(beam profiler)를 이용하여 각각 측정되었으며, 일정한 세기의 점들이 초점면에서 고르게 관찰되었다. 초점거리는 코팅된 UV 접착제의 두께에 따라 변화하였으며, UV 접착제의 두께가 두꺼울수록 짧아지는 경향을 보였다. 일반적인 마스크 얼라이너(mask aligner)를 이용한 MLA의 UV 포커싱(UV focusing)이 감광막(photoresist, PR) 상에서 실시되었으며, MLA를 통과한 빛이 감광막 위에 일정하게 집광되었다. 마스크 얼라이너와 MLA 사이의 거리 변화에 따라 감광막에 구현된 패턴 사이즈가 조절 되었다. 고온에서 오랜 시간이 지난 후에도 소자의 특성은 전혀 변함이 없었다. A microlens array (MLA) was developed based on the wet-etched quartz substrate and coating of UV adhesive on the substrate for maskless lithography application. The developed MLA has the focal length of ${\sim}45\;{\mu}m$ and the spot size of ${\sim}1\;{\mu}m$. The spot size of the focused beam passing through the MLA was detected by CCD camera, and its intensity was monitored by beam profiler. Uniform spots with nearly identical intensities were observed on the focal plane when a beam passes through the fabricated MLA. The focal length was varied depending on thickness of the coated UV adhesive. The thicker the thickness of the UV adhesive was, the shorter the focal length of the MLA was. With a general mask aligner, UV beam focusing was tested onto photoresist (PR). The beams were well focused onto PR when UV passes through the MLA. Depending on the variable distances from the MLA, beam sizes onto PR were controlled. Even at high temperature for a long time, the performances of the MLA were not changed.

        Lung-specific delivery of paclitaxel by chitosan-modified PLGA nanoparticles via transient formation of microaggregates

        <P>Chitosan-modified paclitaxel-loaded poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) nanoparticles with a mean diameter of 200–300 nm in distilled water were prepared by a solvent evaporation method. The mean diameter increased dramatically in contact with the mouse (CDF<SUB>1</SUB>) plasma, as a function of chitosan concentration in the modification solution (e.g., 2670.5 nm for 0.7% chitosan-modified nanoparticles, NP<SUB>3</SUB>), but reverted to almost its original size (i.e., 350.7 nm for NP<SUB>3</SUB>) following 5 min of gentle agitation. The zeta potential of PLGA nanoparticles was changed to positive by the chitosan modification. The in vitro uptake into, and cytotoxicity of the nanoparticles against, a lung cancer cell line (A549) were significantly increased by the modification. Most importantly, a lung-specific increase in the distribution index of paclitaxel (i.e., AUC<SUB>lung</SUB>/AUC<SUB>plasma</SUB>) was observed for chitosan-modified nanoparticles (e.g., 99.9 for NP<SUB>3</SUB> vs. 5.4 for Taxol™) when nanoparticles were administered to lung-metastasized mice via the tail vein at a paclitaxel dose of 10 mg/kg. Transient formation of aggregates in the blood stream followed by enhanced trapping in the lung capillaries, and electrical interaction-mediated enhanced uptake across the endothelial cells of the lung tumor capillary appear to be responsible for the lung-tumor-specific distribution of the chitosan modified nanoparticles. © 2008 Wiley-Liss, Inc. and the American Pharmacists Association J Pharm Sci 98:970–984, 2009</P>

        <sup>99m</sup>Tc-hematoporphyrin linked albumin nanoparticles for lung cancer targeted photodynamic therapy and imaging

        <P>In this study, we fabricated albumin nanoparticles (ANP) using a solvent diffusion method and modified the surface of the ANP with hematoporphyrin (HP) which has been used for cancer photodynamic therapy. Hematoporphyrin linked albumin nanoparticles (HP-ANP) were further functionalized with gamma-emitting nuclides (<SUP>99m</SUP>Tc) for scintigraphic imaging. The fabrication method for HP-ANP was optimized extensively to obtain HP-ANP particles within the size range of 100 to 200 nm. HP-ANP had enhanced accumulation in A549 and CT-26 cancer cell lines, and photodynamic activity against A549 cells after UV exposure. HP-ANP also showed increased accumulation in murine lung tumors, which was induced by CT-26 colon cancer cells, compared to normal lungs. Pharmacokinetics of <SUP>99m</SUP>Tc chelated HP-ANP (<SUP>99m</SUP>Tc-HP-ANP) was estimated through scintigraphic imaging of rabbits. <SUP>99m</SUP>Tc-HP-ANP demonstrated good imaging properties in the rabbit with a much more extended biological half life compared to <SUP>99m</SUP>Tc-HP. <SUP>99m</SUP>Tc-HP-ANP could be utilized as a radio-diagnostic tool for cancer as well as the obvious application for photodynamic therapy.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Hematoporphyrin attached albumin nanoparticles (HP-ANP) were fabricated and their therapeutic application for lung cancer was evaluated in this study.         재난취약계층이 재난 회복 탄력성에 미치는 영향 : 기초자치단체 재난관리예산을 중심으로

        본 연구는 재난취약계층이 재난 회복 탄력성에 미치는 영향을 분석하고자 하였다. 재난취약계층으로는 고령자, 기초수급자, 장애인, 등록외국인 및 다문화가정을 살펴보았고, 재난 회복 탄력성으로는재난의 회복력을 제고하기 위한 구체적인 정책의 모든 근간인 재난관리예산을 대리변수로 활용하였다. 분석 대상 및 방법은 2013년~2017년 5개년의 기초자치단체 226개를 대상으로, 패널회귀분석 중패널수정 표준오차 모델(PCSE)과 일반화적률법(GMM)을 활용하였다. 분석 결과, 장애인 비율은 재난관리예산에 일관적으로 유의미하게 부정적인 영향을, 고령인구 비율은 유의수준 10% 내 긍정적인영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 아울러, 취약계층을 전부 활용한 재난취약계층은 유의미한 영향을미치지는 않았다. 끝으로 연구 결과에 의거하여 장애인 및 고령 인구와 재난 회복 탄력성 간의 시사점과 현재 우리나라 재난관리예산에 있어서의 재난취약계층에 대한 시사점을 제시하였다. This study examines how disaster vulnerability affects disaster resilience, focusing on the elderly, recipients of the basic livelihood security benefit, the disabled, registered foreigners and multi-cultural families as disaster vulnerable population. The disaster management budget of a local government was used as a surrogate variable for disaster resilience. The data collected from 226 basic local governments in five years from 2013 to 2017 were analyzed by PCSE and GMM. The results show that the proportion of persons with disabilities consistently and significantly affected the size of disaster management budget, while the proportion of the elderly population had a positive effect at the significance level of 10%. However, disaster-vulnerable populations did not have a significant effect. Based on the result, this study provided some implications on how disaster resilience is related to the disabled and elderly and how to manage the disaster management budget to support disaster vulnerable populations.

        여름철 남해도 연안 식물플랑크톤 군집 구조의 단기 변화

        The short-term dynamics of the summer phytoplankton community structure were investigated in coastal waters around Namhae Island, the Southern Sea of Korea. The study was based on a comprehensive survey constituting 39 collections from 13 stations on July 18-22, August 1-2, 14-16 and 27-30, respectively. The community structure was analysed using cluster analysis and important environmental correlates of the assemblage structure were identified with canonical correspondence analysis (CCA). Water temperature, salinity, NO₂, NO₃, NH₄, PO₄, chlorophyll a and transparency were measured as physico-chemical environmental factors which may be associated with the phytoplankton community structure. Variations of salinity and concentrations of NO₃ and chlorophyll a were not significant. In addition to warmer water temperature, concentrations of NO₂, NO₄and PO₄ decreased at the beginning of August. And transparency was deeper and water column became very unstable after the middle of August. A wide taxonomic diversity was encountered during the survey, including a total of 121 taxa which was composed of 72 diatoms, 48 dinoflagellates and 1 euglenoid species. Cluster analysis showed that the Phytoplankton community could be divided into 4 distinct groups, indicating rapid changes of the community in the short course of this survey. These phytoplankton groups also showed distinctive dispersion patterns in 2-dimensional canonical space, indicating distinct groupings for stations at each survey. Dominant taxa of diatoms (Chaetoceros curvisetus, Chaetoceros spp., Leptocylindrus danicus, Leptocylindrus mediteraneus, Skeletonema costanum, and Pseudo-nitzschia pungen) clustered in region of CCA space corresponding to stations surveyed at the middle of July. Dominant taxa of dinoflagellates were tightly associated with stations surveyed at the middle (Karenia breve) and end (Cochlodinium polykrikoides and Polykrikos schwartzii) of August. The CCA also showed that the phytoplankton community compositions were highly associated with water temperature, transparency, NO₂, NH₄ and PO₄, suggesting that gradients in physical and nutrient conditions affect short-term changes in phytoplankton composition.
