Collapse Load Computation of Defective Pipelines Under Multi-Loading System

Based on the kinematic theorem of limit analysis, a finite element mathematical programming formulation of 3-D rigid-perfectly plastic bodies is presented. The penalty function method is used to deal with the plastic incompressibility. A direct iterative algorithm is employed in solving the above formulation. The numerical procedure has been applied to carry out the limit analysis of pipelines with or without defects on the outside surface under multi-loading system. The effects of ellipsoidal and rectangular part-through slots on the collapse loads of pipelines under multi-loading system are investigated in detail. All the numerical examples are given to illustrate its application.
Achievement goals, motivational self-talk, and academic engagement among Chinese students

The present study investigated the mediating role of motivational self-talk strategies (i.e., mastery self-talk, extrinsic self-talk, and efficacy enhancement self-talk) in the relationships between achievement goals and academic engagement (i.e., involvement, withdrawal in the face of difficulties, avoidance of challenges, and disruptive behaviors) among 1096 10th grade students (43% male) in a selective Chinese high school. Structural equation models showed that total and desirable effects of mastery goals were partially mediated by motivational self-talk strategies. Performance approach goals were maladaptive and only weak partial mediation was found through motivational self-talk strategies. A similar pattern was observed with performance avoidance goals. Mastery self-talk and efficacy enhancement self-talk were related to positive patterns of engagement while extrinsic self-talk was related to maladaptive patterns of engagement. Theoretical, cultural, and practical implications are discussed.

Apolipophorin-III (ApoLp-III) is involved in lipid transport and innate immunity in insects. In this study, we isolated ApoLp-III gene (As-ApoLp-III) cDNA fromActias selene Hübner (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae). It contained 660 nucleotides with a putative open reading frame (ORF) of 561 bp encoding 186 amino acid residues. It showed similarities with ApoLp-III proteins from other insect species, especially Antheraea pernyi. The recombinant protein of As-ApoLp-III was expressed in Escherichia coli, and anti-As-ApoLp-III antibodies were prepared. The As-ApoLp-III gene was expressed at high levels in the fat body and integument, and at low levels in the hemolymph, testis, silk gland, malpighian tubule, ovary, and midgut. As-ApoLp-III gene can be upregulated by E. coli, Micrococcus luteus, Beauveria bassiana, and nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV) and showed a greater sensitivity for gram-negative bacteria and fungi than for gram-positive bacteria and virus. These data indicated that As-ApoLp-III may play an important role in innate immune responses of Actias selene.

The purpose of this study was to examine what motivated consumers to purchase the products that they viewed from User Generated Content (UGC) on YouTube. The current research collected 198 YouTube users online survey on their attitude toward UGC, their perceived credibility of UGC, their user activity, parasocial interaction and their purchase intention of the products being reviewed. The results showed these examined variables were positive correlated. Additionally, active users and passive users not only held different attitudes toward UGC and different purchase intentions for the products being reviewed, but also the predictive power was varied.

C-Type lectins (CTLs) are carbohydrate-recognition proteins and play critical roles in innate immunity. In this study, we characterized a CTL fromAntheraea pernyi, named ApCTL,which has two carbohydrate-recognition domains (CRDs). A fragment of 1017 bp cDNA of ApCTL was isolated, which constituted 927 bp open reading frame (ORF), and it encoded putative protein of 308 amino acids. The recombinant protein of ApCTL was expressed in Escherichia coli, and anti-ApCTL antibodieswere prepared. ApCTL genewas constitutively expressed in a variety of tissueswhile it showed a higher expression level in fat body than other tissues. Protein andmRNAlevels of ApCTL in fat body and hemolymph were elevated upon nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV) and E. coli challenges. Recombinant ApCTL increased the agglutination of E. coli in a Ca2+-dependent manner and had the bacteriolytic activity on E. coli. Our results suggested that ApCTLmay play critical roles in pathogen recognition and could be involved in the innate immunity of A. pernyi.
Fault Diagnosis based on Grey-box Neural Network Identification Model

This paper presents a fault diagnosis (FD) scheme for a class of nonlinear dynamic systems using a novel Grey-Box Neural Network Model (GBNNM). In this GBNNM, a composite structure, including MLP (multi-layer perception) NN (Neural Network) and integer term, is proposed to approximate both nonlinearity and dynamics of object system. Its approximation ability is then proved theoretically. And a self-defined exciting strategy is introduced into NN training to improve NN"s generalization ability. Unlike previous NN model based fault diagnosis methods, a quantitative residual, which is obtained from system output and its GBNNM model output, can accurately indicates inconsistency caused by fault, so the improved residual is not essential for our scheme. The proposed FD scheme is applied in a high-fidelity Reaction Wheel (RW) in Satellite Attitude Control System (SACS) in our case study. The results of the case study demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of our FD scheme.

This review discusses about biomimetic medical materials for tissue engineering of bone and cartilage, after previous scientific commentary of the invitation-based, Korea-China joint symposium on biomimetic medical materials, which was held in Seoul, Korea, from October 22 to 26, 2015. The contents of this review were evolved from the presentations of that symposium. Four topics of biomimetic medical materials were discussed from different research groups here: 1) 3D bioprinting medical materials, 2) nano/micro-technology, 3) surface modification of biomaterials for their interactions with cells and 4) clinical aspects of biomaterials for cartilage focusing on cells, scaffolds and cytokines.
Electrical stimulation as a novel tool for regulating cell behavior in tissue engineering

Recently, electrical stimulation as a physical stimulus draws lots of attention. It shows great potential in disease treatment, wound healing, and mechanism study because of significant experimental performance. Electrical stimulation can activate many intracellular signaling pathways, and influence intracellular microenvironment, as a result, affect cell migration, cell proliferation, and cell differentiation. Electrical stimulation is using in tissue engineering as a novel type of tool in regeneration medicine. Besides, with the advantages of biocompatible conductive materials coming into view, the combination of electrical stimulation with suitable tissue engineered scaffolds can well combine the benefits of both and is ideal for the field of regenerative medicine. In this review, we summarize the various materials and latest technologies to deliver electrical stimulation. The influences of electrical stimulation on cell alignment, migration and its underlying mechanisms are discussed. Then the effect of electrical stimulation on cell proliferation and differentiation are also discussed.
Immobilizing hydroxycholesterol with apatite on titanium surfaces for rapid osseointegration

Background: Immobilizing bioactive molecules and osteoconductive apatite on titanium implants have investigated direct ossification. In this study, hydroxycholesterol (HC) was immobilized with apatite on titanium through simply adsorption or sandwich-like coating. Three kinds of hydroxycholesterol were chosen to induce ossification: 20α-hydroxycholesterol (20α- HC), 22(S)-hydroxycholesterol (22(S)-HC) and 25-hydroxycholesterol (25-HC).The effects of HC/apatite coating on ossification abilities were evaluated in vitro and in vivo. Results: At 6 d, adsorbed apatite/25-HC and apatite/22(S)-HC coating exhibited some cytotoxicity, while the cell viability of apatite/20α-HC coating was similar as apatite coating. Immobilizing HC with apatite significantly enhanced the ALP activities compared with apatite coating. There was no significant difference in ALP value between adsorbed apatite/HC coating and sandwich-like apatite/HC/apatite coating. When compared with apatite coating, the mineral deposition improved by adsorbed HC with apatite at higher concentration in vivo. Conclusions: When compared with apatite coating, immobilizing HC with apatite coating induced the ossification in vitro and in vivo.
