<P>A previously undescribed, slowly growing, non-chromogenic <I>Mycobacterium</I> strain (299<SUP>T</SUP>) was isolated from the sputum sample of a patient with a symptomatic pulmonary infection. Phenotypically, strain 299<SUP>T</SUP> was generally similar to <I>Mycobacterium koreense</I> DSM 45576<SUP>T</SUP> and <I>Mycobacterium triviale</I> ATCC 23292<SUP>T</SUP>. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain 299<SUP>T</SUP> was similar to that of <I>M. koreense</I> DSM 45576<SUP>T</SUP> (GenBank accession no. AY734996, 99.5 % similarity); however, it differed substantially from that of <I>M. triviale</I> ATCC 23292<SUP>T</SUP> (X88924, 98.2 %). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain 299<SUP>T</SUP> clustered together with <I>M. koreense</I> DSM 45576<SUP>T</SUP> and <I>M. triviale</I> ATCC 23292<SUP>T</SUP>, supported by high bootstrapping values (99 %). Unique mycolic acid profiles and phylogenetic analysis based on two different chronometer molecules, the <I>hsp65</I> and <I>rpoB</I> genes, strongly supported the taxonomic status of this strain as representing a distinct species. These data support the conclusion that strain 299<SUP>T</SUP> represents a novel mycobacterial species, for which the name <I>Mycobacterium parakoreense</I> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 299<SUP>T</SUP> ( = DSM 45575<SUP>T</SUP> = KCTC 19818<SUP>T</SUP>).</P>

<P>A novel slow-growing, non-chromogenic mycobacterium (strain 01-305<SUP>T</SUP>) was isolated from a patient with pulmonary dysfunction. Growth characteristics, acid-fastness and the results of 16S rRNA gene sequencing supported the placement of this strain within the genus <I>Mycobacterium</I>. Phenotypically, strain 01-305<SUP>T</SUP> was generally similar to <I>Mycobacterium triviale</I> ATCC 23292<SUP>T</SUP>, but some unique biochemical characteristics were observed. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain 01-305<SUP>T</SUP> was similar to those of <I>M. triviale</I> ATCC 23290 (GenBank accession no. AY734996, 99.9 % similarity) and <I>M. triviale</I> ATCC 23291 (AY734995, 99.9 %); however, it differed substantially from that of <I>M. triviale</I> ATCC 23292<SUP>T</SUP> (X88924, 98.2 %). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences placed strain 01-305<SUP>T</SUP> in the slow-growing <I>Mycobacterium</I> group close to <I>M. triviale</I> ATCC 23290 and <I>M. triviale</I> ATCC 23291, but not <I>M. triviale</I> ATCC 23292<SUP>T</SUP>. Purification and Characterization of Vitellin from the Red Flour Beetle, Tribolium castaneum Herbst

The vitellin of the red flour beetled Tribolium castaneum Herbst was purified and characterized. The vitellin of T. castaneum was purified by the FPLC techniques, anion exchange chromatography and gel permeation chromatography. In native-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, vitellin of T. castaneum was detected as a single band. This native vitellin has molecular weight of 440 kDa. The vitellin of T. castaneum is composed of three polypeptides, designated Vnl (178 kDa), Vn2 (168 kDa) and Vn3 (52 kDa) in SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Three subunits of vitellin were presented in the female adult hemolymph and egg extracts, but not observed in the male. These three polypeptides gradually decreased during embryogenesis. Polyclonal antiserum raised against purified vitellin reacted with the three polypeptides, Vnl, Vn2 and Vn3. Antisera raised against Vn1 and Vn2 cross-reacted with the two large subunits, Vnl and Vn2, respectively. Another subunits Vn3, however, was not cross-reacted with these two antisera. Also, antiserum raised against Vn3 did not cross-react with the Vn1 and Vn2.

Objective: The authors investigated the frequency of persecutors in persecutory delusions of the psychiatric patients who didn't undergo the arrest or traumatic injury, reside in Gwangju Jeonnam area, and were admitted to the hospital after the 5.18 prodemocracy movement in Gwangju in 1980 upward 10 years. Also this study investigated the frequency of the persecutors before and after the prodemocracy movement and in capital and Gwangju Jeonnam area. Subjects and Methods: Among the 896 patients who were admitted to department of psychiatry, Chosun University Hospital from Jan. 1. 1989 to Dec. 31. 1991, we choosed 144 patients with persecutory delusion who had lived in Gwangju Jeonnam area for 10 years after 5.18 prodemocracy movement as subjects. Persecutors were classified into 7 class: unspecified, family, neighbors, communist or spy, police or army or secret agent, impersonal, others. Results: 1) In our study, the frequency of persecutors was family, unspecified, neighbors, police or army or secret agent, impersonal, others, communist or spy in descending order. As compared to previous studies (1956-2003) including our study about frequency of persecutor at capital area and Gwangju Jeonnam area, and before and after 5.18 prodemocracy movement, 2) At capital area, in the early 1980s, police, family, neighbors, unspecified person was frequent in descending order. In the both of early 1970s, 1990s, neighbors, family, unspecified person, police was frequent in descending order. 3) At Gwangju Jeonnam area, in the early 1970s, family, unspecified person, neighbors, police was frequent in descending order. In the early 1990s, unspecified person and family, neighbors, police was frequent in descending order. 4) The police class was most frequent at capital area in the early 1980s. Conclusions: We suppose that class of persecutor in persecutory delusions of psychiatric patients are changing according to social change, and frequency of police class was decreasing in both of capital and Gwangju, Jeonnam area.
Development of a Prototype KSTAR Neutral Beam System

A prototype KSTAR neutral beam (NB) system has been developed to test the long pulse operability of the KSTAR NB system for 300 seconds at the designed beam power. The prototype system consists of an ion source, beam line components, power supplies, water-cooling circuits, and a control & DAQ system. The ion source was designed to extract a 120 keV, 65 A deuterium beam with a rectangular beam size of 13 × 48 cm2. The beam line components include a neutralizer, a bending magnet, ion dumps, a calorimeter, and cryo-sorption pumps. An acceleration power supply, an arc power supply, a filament power supply, and a deceleration power supply provide the necessary powers in proper timings to the ion source. Data acquisition modules controlled by LabVIEW software acquire more than 200 data points from the thermocouples, flow meters, and others. The water cooling system can support experiments with a 2-MW continuous beam and can be extended to support experiments with an 8-MW beam for 300 seconds. The necessary tests of the prototype system have been done with high-power, long pulse beams.

DGCR8 is a RNA-binding protein working with DROSHA to produce pre-microRNA in the nucleus, while DICER does not only mature microRNA but also endogenous siRNAs in the cytoplasm. Here, we have produced Dgcr8 conditional knock-out mice using progesterone receptor (PR)-Cre (Dgcr8flox/flox; PRcre/+ mice, Dgcr8d/d) and demonstrated that canonical microRNAs dependent of DROSHA-DGCR8 complex are required for uterine development as well as female fertility in mice. Adult Dgcr8d/d females did not undergo regular reproductive cycle and produce any pups when housed with fertile males, whereas administration of exogenous gonadotropins induced normal ovulation with corpus luteal formation in these mice. Ovulated oocytes from Dgcr8d/d mice had comparable fertilization potentials and were normally developed to the blastocyst after fertilization as compared to those in control Dgcr8f/f mice. Interestingly, PR-Cre-dependent Dgcr8 deletion showed aberrant infiltration of acute inflammatory immune cells to female reproductive organs only when Dgcr8d/d mice were mated with male mice. With respect to uterine development, gross morphology, histology, and weight of Dgcr8d/d uterus were similar to those of control at 3-week-old age. However, multiple uterine abnormalities were noticeable at 4-week-old age when PR expression is significantly increased, and these deformities became severe onwards. Gland formation and myometrial layers were significantly reduced, and stromal cell compartment did not expand and became atrophic during uterine development in these mice. These results were consistent with aberrantly reduced cell proliferation in stromal cell compartments of Dgcr8d/d mice. Collectively, our results suggest that DGCR8 dependent-canonical microRNAs are essential for development and physiology of the uterus with respect to morphogenesis, proper immune modulation, reproductive cycle, and steroid hormone responsiveness in mice.

역형성 대세포 림프종은 Stein 등에 의해 1985년 처음으로 기술된 비호즈킨 림프종의 아형으로 대부분 림프절을 침범하나 위장관, 피부, 뼈, 중추 신경계, 폐 등에 원발성으로 림프절외 림프종이 발생할 수 있다. 그러나 골격근에 발생하는 원발성 역형성 대세포 림프종은 극히 드물다. 저자들은 9세 여아에서 장요근에서 내전근, 치골근, 폐쇄근까지 연결되는 원발성 역형성 대세포 림프종을 1예 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하고자 한다. Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, that was first described by Stein et al. in 1985. In most cases, ALCL invades the lymph nodes, but primary extranodal lymphoma can occur in the gastrointestinal tract, skin, bone, central nervous system, and lungs. Moreover, the occurrence of primary ALCL in the skeletal muscle is extremely rare. This paper reports a case of primary ALCL involving the iliopsoas, adductor, pectineus, and obturator muscles around the left hip in a nine-year-old girl with a review of the relevant literature.

Background and objectives: Intermediate coronary lesion that can be under- or over-estimated by visual estimation frequently results in stenting of functionally nonsignificant lesions or deferral of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of significant lesions inappropriately. We evaluated current status of PCI for intermediate lesions from a standardized database in Korea. Methods: We analyzed the Korean percutaneous coronary intervention (K-PCI) registry data which collected a standardized PCI database of the participating hospitals throughout the country from January 1, 2014, through December 31, 2014. Intermediate lesion was defined as a luminal narrowing between 50% and 70% by visual estimation and then compared whether the invasive physiologic or imaging study was performed or not. Results: Physiology-guided PCI for intermediate lesions was performed in 16.8% for left anterior descending artery (LAD), 9.8% for left circumflex artery (LCX), 13.2% for right coronary artery (RCA). PCI was more frequently performed using intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) than using fractional flow reserve (FFR) for coronary artery segments (27.7% vs. 13.9% for LAD, 32.9% vs. 8.1% for LCX, and 33.8% vs. 10.8% for RCA). In accordance with or without FFR, PCI for intermediate lesions was more frequently performed in the hospitals with available FFR device than without FFR, especially in left main artery (LM), proximal LAD lesion (40.9% vs. 5.9% for LM, 24.6% vs 7.6% for proximal LAD). Conclusions: These data provide the current PCI practice pattern with the use of FFR and IVUS in intermediate lesion. More common use of FFR for intermediate lesion should be encouraged.
