Analysis of low Reynolds number flow around a heated circular cylinder

The objective of this study is to investigate the forced convection from and the flow around a heated cylinder. Experimental and computational results are presented for laminar flow around a heated circular cylinder with a diameter of 10 mm. The experiments were carried out using Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) in a wind tunnel, and numerical simulations using an in-house code and a commercial software package, FLUENT. This paper presents comparisons for vorticity and temperature contours in the wake of the cylinder. Experimental and computational results are compared with those available in the literature for heated and unheated cylinders. An equation is suggested for a temperature-dependent coefficient defining a reference temperature to be used in place of the constant used in other studies. An attempt is also made to correct differences between average cylinder surface temperature and measured interior temperature of the cylinder.
Requirements for e-Navigation Architectures

Technology is changing the way of navigation. New technologies for communication and navigation can be found on virtually every vessel. System architectures define structure and cooperation of components and subsystems. IMO, IALA, costal authorities, technology provider and many more actually propose new architectures for e-Navigation. This paper looks at other transportation domains and technical as normative requirements for e-Navigation architectures. With the aim of identifying possible synergies in the research, development, certification and standardization, this paper sets out to compare requirements and approaches of these two domains with respect to safety and security aspects. Since from an autonomy perspective, the automotive domain has started earlier and therefore has achieved a higher degree of technical progress, we will start with an overview of the developments in this domain. After that, the paper discusses the requirements on automation and assistance systems in the maritime domain and gives an overview of the developments into this direction within the maritime domain. This then allows us to compare developments in both domains and to derive recommendations for further developments in the maritime domain at the end of this paper.

It is of considerable importance for tourism destination marketing organizations (DMOs) to understand the effects of various types of imagery-evoking stimuli on tourists’ visionary responses to advertising material. Accordingly, they face the need to evaluate the efficacy of advertising promotions. To date, however, there has been a paucity of research on the cognitive processes underlying the observed effects of ads featuring visuals and text versus audio mental imagery only within the context of the tourism field. This study explores how ads that include visuals and text compare with high imagery audio imagery in destination advertisements in affecting the allocation of processing resources to encode the message in memory. This study introduces a psychophysiology model?LC4MP?and a physiological measure (i.e., heart rate) that examines mental processing of tourism ads. The results indicate that high-imagery audio ads appear to lead people to invest more effort into committing the images to memory. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

In this paper, a new texture feature extraction method for texture image classification is proposed. The proposed method is a modified texture spectrum method. It uses local weighting averaged texture unit, that is, the neighbor pixels are weithted and averaged in 4-direction and the calculated values are compared with center pixel to find texture units. The proposed method has only 81 texture units and these units are really good features for texture classification. The proposed method is applied to vegetable images and Blodatz album images and compared with several conventional methods for the feature extraction time and the recognition rate.

Objectives The global obesity epidemic has great impact on the prevalence of low-grade endometrial carcinoma. The preoperative tumor serum marker cancer antigen 125 (CA-125) might contribute to improved identification of high-risk patients within this group. The study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of CA-125 in relation to established preoperative prognosticators, with a focus on identifying patients with poor outcome in low-grade endometrial carcinoma (EC) patients. Methods Prospective multicenter cohort study including all consecutive patients surgically treated for endometrial carcinoma in nine collaborating hospitals from September 2011 until December 2013. All preoperative histopathological diagnoses were reviewed in a blinded manner. Associations between CA-125 and clinicopathological features were determined. Univariable and multivariable analysis by Cox regression were used. Separate analyses were performed for preoperatively designated low-grade and high-grade endometrial carcinoma patients. Results A total of 333 patients were analyzed. CA-125 was associated with poor prognostic features including advanced International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage. In multivariable analysis, age, preoperative tumor and CA-125 were significantly associated with disease-free survival (DFS); preoperative grade, tumor type, FIGO and CA-125 were significantly associated with disease-specific survival (DSS). Low-grade EC patients with elevated CA-125 revealed a DFS of 80.6% and DSS of 87.1%, compared to 92.1% and 97.2% in low-grade EC patients with normal CA-125. Conclusion Preoperative elevated CA-125 was associated with poor prognostic features and independently associated with DFS and DSS. Particularly patients with low-grade EC and elevated CA-125 represent a group with poor outcome and should be considered as high-risk endometrial carcinoma.
