Optimization of nano TiO2 pretreatment on free acid dyeing of wool using central composite design

ALI NAZARI,Mohammad Mirjalili,Navid Nasirizadeh,Shahab Torabian 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.21 No.1

The aim of the research is to investigate nano technique of wool acid dyeing without the presence of acidauxiliary agent at temperatures lower than the boiling. The wool fabrics are first pretreated with nanoTiO2 and BTCA at different concentrations. The dyeing process is then carried out on the pretreatedfabrics with C. I. Acid Blue 113 and C. I. Acid Black 3 dyes. Also, the central composite design analysis isapplied to design the relation between nano TiO2 and BTCA concentrations, and dye exhaustion. Theresponse surface methodology is also applied to find the optimum conditions for the wool fabricpretreatment. The scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction are employed to indicate thepresence, crystal type and size of TiO2 nanoparticles on the wool surface. The pretreatment optimizationon the wool surfaces considerably enhances the absorption of acid dyes. The suggested methoddemonstrates the improvement of fastness properties than control dyeing and could be introduced as anew route, disclosing various desirablemulti-functional characteristics, to wool fabric. This technique isalso free from some of the disadvantages of acid chemical involved in dyeing such as damage to woolfabrics than wool conventional dyeing.

Habitat suitability mapping for sand cat (Felis margarita) in Central Iran using remote sensing techniques

        Shiva Torabian,Alireza Soffianian,Sima Fakheran,Ali Asgarian,Hossein Akbari Feizabad,Josef Senn 대한공간정보학회 2018 Spatial Information Research Vol.26 No.1

One of the primary reason of species extinction especially rare species with very specific requirements, is habitat destruction. To protect these species, habitat suitability evaluation plays a central role. Hence, an attempt is made in this study to evaluate the suitability of sand cat’s habitat in a sand dune-dominated landscape in Iran. Four Landsat-derived indices including Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Weighted Difference Vegetation Index, Brightness Index (BI) and Salinity Index were combined to characterize sand cat’s habitat requirements through a land use land cover (LULC) map. Furthermore, a set of landscape metrics were employed to explore the spatial pattern LULC classes. Sand cat’s habitat suitability map was generated by linear combination of the standardized and relatively weighted NDVI and BI indices and then categorized into five classes of most suitable, highly suitable, moderately suitable, least suitable and not suitable. The results showed that about 75% of the total area is suitable for sand cat. Although this region is rich in biodiversity, it has not yet been subject to any conservation planning and should be granted more conservation attentions.

Removal of Chromium (III) from Wastewater by Electrocoagulation Method

Toktam Shahriari,Gholamreza Nabi Bidhendi,Naser Mehrdadi,Ali Torabian 대한토목학회 2014 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.18 No.4

The industrial wastewaters mostly contain toxic compounds such as chromium which would be harmful. Among the novel technologies for removing these pollutants, electrocoagulation can be considered as an effective method. This method enjoys some advantages like less amount of produced sludge and high efficiency in removal of pollutants. In this study, electrocoagulation method was used for the removal of chromium from synthetic wastewater polluted by chromium sulfate. For this purpose, the removal of chromium (III) with different concentrations from artificial wastewater was investigated. The best concentration was obtained at removal efficiency of 99.96%. A cubic tank made of Plexiglas with an effective volume of 2.5 L was used as electrocoagulation reactor. A total number of 10 metal plates made of iron in 11 × 7 cm and 2 mm thick were placed inside the tank. Electrodes of bipolar and monopolar array were also used in the reactor. The optimal values of pH, magnetic stirrer rotation, test time and settling times, temperature and voltage parameters were specified according to the primary concentration (500 mg/L). The optimal pH was 6. The mechanism of chromium removal was also investigated, and the results showed that the reactions in the electrocoagulation process are exothermic.
