The impact of Learning strategies on reading comprehension among Foreign learners of Persian

Abdollahi Parsa, Tahere,Fahime Ghapandari Bidgoli 한국중동학회 2022 韓國 中東 學會 論叢 Vol.43 No.1

Reading and comprehension skill as one of the four main language skills is a complex process that can be facilitated by learning strategies. The utilization of learning strategies in reading leads to a better and deeper understanding of language by learners. Researches show that the usage of learning strategies impacts on reading and comprehension to a great extent, but so far It has not been done on Persian learners with different languages and dialects. As it seems necessary to pay attention to this field, the present study investigates the learning strategies used by foreign learners of Persian and its effect on reading comprehension. For this purpose, the reading texts of Parfa book (intermediate level) have been used. Applicants (40) are randomly divided into the control group (20) and the experimental group (20). The experimental group received the reading texts using Oxford (1990) language strategies and the control group received them through the traditional method. They were taught online through the Adobe Connect platform within ten hours. At first a pre-test was conducted for both control and experimental group and after ten-hour training a post-test was taken. Statistical analysis and the t-test results shows the experimental group outperformed the control group and the learning strategies are efficient. Also, to determine the most effective strategies in reading and comprehension among foreign learners of Persian, interviews were conducted with their lecturers and it was found that metacognitive strategies are more effectual than other strategies.

DYADIC REPRESENTATION OF THE RUDIN-SHAPIRO COEFFICIENTS WITH APPLICATIONS

        ABDOLLAHI, A.,TAGHAVI, M. 한국전산응용수학회 2005 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.18 No.1

The coefficients of the Rudin-Shapiro polynomials are $\pm1$. In this paper we first replace-1 coefficient by 0 which on that case the structure of the coefficients will be on base 2. Then using the results obtained for the numbers on base 2, we introduce a quite fast algorithm to calculate the autocorrelation coefficients. Main facts: Regardless of frequencies, finding the autocorrelations of those polynomials on which their coefficients lie in the unit disk has been a telecommunication's demand. The Rudin-Shapiro polynomials have a very special form of coefficients that allow us to use 'Machine language' for evaluating these values.

      • Determination of a Change Point in the Age at Diagnosis of Breast Cancer Using a Survival Model

Abdollahi, Mahbubeh,Hajizadeh, Ebrahim,Baghestani, Ahmad Reza,Haghighat, Shahpar Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.no.sup3

Breast cancer, the second cause of cancer-related death after lung cancer and the most common cancer in women after skin cancer, is curable if detected in early stages of clinical presentation. Knowledge as to any age cut-off points which might have significance for prognostic groups is important in screening and treatment planning. Therefore, determining a change-point could improve resource allocation. This study aimed to determine if a change point for survival might exist in the age of breast cancer diagnosis. This study included 568 cases of breast cancer that were registered in Breast Cancer Research Center, Tehran, Iran, during the period 1986-2006 and were followed up to 2012. In the presence of curable cases of breast cancer, a change point in the age of breast cancer diagnosis was estimated using a mixture survival cure model. The data were analyzed using SPSS (versions 20) and R (version 2.15.0) software. The results revealed that a change point in the age of breast cancer diagnosis was at 50 years age. Based on our estimation, 35% of the patients diagnosed with breast cancer at age less than or equal to 50 years of age were cured while the figure was 57% for those diagnosed after 50 years of age. Those in the older age group had better survival compared to their younger counterparts during 12 years of follow up. Our results suggest that it is better to estimate change points in age for cancers which are curable in early stages using survival cure models, and that the cure rate would increase with timely screening for breast cancer.

Influence of Palm Kernel Meal Inclusion and Exogenous Enzyme Supplementation on Growth Performance, Energy Utilization, and Nutrient Digestibility in Young Broilers

        Abdollahi, M.R.,Hosking, B.J.,Ning, D.,Ravindran, V. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2016 Animal Bioscience Vol.29 No.4

The objective of the present study was to investigate the influence of palm kernel meal (PKM) inclusion and exogenous enzyme supplementation on growth performance, nitrogen-corrected apparent metabolizable energy (AMEn), coefficient of apparent ileal digestibility (CAID) and total tract retention of nutrients in young broilers fed corn-based diets. Four inclusion levels of PKM (no PKM [PKM0], 8% [PKM8], 16% [PKM16], and 24% [PKM24]) and two enzyme additions were evaluated in a $4{\times}2$ factorial arrangement of treatments. A total of 384, one-d-old male broilers (Ross 308) were individually weighed and allocated to 48 cages (eight broilers/cage), and cages were randomly assigned to eight dietary treatments. Results indicated that the inclusion of 8% and 16% PKM increased (p<0.05) the weight gain compared to the PKM0 diet. Birds fed the PKM8 diets had the highest (p<0.05) feed intake. Weight gain and feed intake were severely reduced (p<0.05) by feeding the PKM24 diet. Enzyme supplementation increased weight gain (p<0.05), independent of PKM inclusion level. In PKM0 and PKM8 diets, enzyme addition significantly (p<0.05) lowered feed conversion ratio (FCR); whereas enzyme addition had no effect on FCR of birds fed PKM16 and PKM24 diets. In PKM0 and PKM16 diets, enzyme addition significantly (p<0.05) increased CAID of nitrogen and energy but had no effect in the PKM8 and PKM24 diets. Inclusion of PKM into the basal diet, irrespective of inclusion level, enhanced (p<0.05) starch and fat digestibility. Inclusion of PKM at 16% and 24% resulted in similar CAID of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) but higher (p<0.05) than that of the PKM0 and PKM8 diets. Enzyme addition, regardless of the level of PKM inclusion, significantly (p<0.05) increased CAID of NDF. There was a significant (p<0.05) decrease in AMEn with PKM inclusion of 24%. The present data suggest that inclusion of PKM in broiler diets could be optimized if PKM-containing diets are formulated based on digestible amino acid contents and supplemented with exogenous enzymes. If amino acid digestibility and AME of PKM considered in the formulation, it can be included in broiler diets up to 16% with no deleterious effects on growth performance.

Radical Copolymerization of Acrylic Acid and OEGMA475: Monomer Reactivity Ratios and Structural Parameters of the Copolymer

        Hossein Abdollahi,Vahid Najafi,Farshid Ziaee,Kourosh Kabiri,Farhad Narimani 한국고분자학회 2014 Macromolecular Research Vol.22 No.12

Alternative copolymers of acrylic acid (AA) and oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacryate (475 g/mol (OEGMA475)) macromer, having various amounts of two monomers, were synthesized using aqueous solutionfree radical copolymerization at 50 °C with ammonium persulfate (APS) as an initiator. The structures of the copolymerswere confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. In fact, samples with different molarratios of two monomers in deionized water were prepared and subsequently copolymerization reaction was performedto low conversion levels (below 10%). Monomer reactivity ratios of OEGMA475, AA pair were estimatedusing the Finemann-Ross (FR), inverted Finemann-Ross (IFR), Kelen-Tüdös (KT), extended Kelen-Tüdös (EKT),Mayo-Lewis (ML) and Yezrelieve-Brokhina-Roskin (YBR) graphical methods. The value ranged from 0.908 to0.963 for rOEGMA and from 0.208 to 0.243 for rAA depending on conversion percentage and calculation methods ofmonomer reactivity ratios. In all the cases, rOEGMA×rAA<1 and rOEGMA>rAA indicate that the resulting copolymer has atendency toward alternation with an azeotropic point in MOEGMA=0.905. Structural parameters of the copolymerswere obtained by calculating the dyad monomer sequence fractions and the mean sequence length. Synthesis, characterization and comparison of PAM, cationic PDMC and P(AM-co-DMC) based on solution polymerization

Zohreh Abdollahi,Masoud Frounchi,Susan Dadbin 한국공업화학회 2011 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.17 No.3

High molecular weight homopolymers of acrylamide (PAM) and (2-methacryloyloxyethyl) trimethyl ammonium chloride (PDMC) and copolymer ofDMC with acrylamide (P(AM-co-DMC)) were synthesized using solution polymerization technique. The synthesized polymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), 1HNMR, 13CNMR spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)and viscometery. 1HNMR and 13CNMR studies confirmed the structure of the synthesized polymers. The behavior of the synthesized polymers was investigated in water–acetone and water–methanolmixtures. The plot of intrinsic viscosity of either PAM or P(AM-co-DMC) with respect to acetone (methanol)/water ratio in water–acetone (methanol) demonstrated a maximum indicating a balance between acetone or methanol hydrogen bonds with water and non-solvency effect of acetone or methanol. However, the intrinsic viscosity of PDMC decreased steadily with increasing acetone (methanol)/water ratio. The jar test results with kaolin suspensions demonstrated the best clarification with PDMC as flocculant whilst the largest size of flocs obtained using PAM.

Fabrication modeling of industrial CO2 ionic liquids absorber by artificial neural networks

Yadollah Abdollahi,Nor Asrina Sairi,Mohamed Khereddine Aroua,Hamid Reza Fard Masoumi,Hossein Jahangirian,Yatimah Alias 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.25 No.-

The fabrication of industrial CO2 blended solution absorber was modeled by artificial neutral network. First the generated model had been statistically evaluated and then its ability of prediction was confirmed by validation test. The validated model was used to predict the desirable density and relative importance of the fabrication’s effective variables. In conclusion, the importance included x[H2O], 36.18%, x[gua], 25.37%, x[MDEA], 25.34% and temperature, 13.11% which showed none of them is negligible as well as the density (g cm3) was validated by further experiment that showed the actual density, 1.101, was quite close to the predicted value, 1.017.

      • On vibration and flutter of shear and normal deformable functionally graded reinforced composite plates

Mahdieh Abdollahi,Ali Reza Saidi,Reza Bahaadini 국제구조공학회 2022 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.84 No.4

For the first time, the higher-order shear and normal deformable plate theory (HOSNDPT) is used for the vibration and flutter analyses of the multilayer functionally graded graphene platelets reinforced composite (FG-GPLRC) plates under supersonic airflow. For modeling the supersonic airflow, the linear piston theory is adopted. In HOSNDPT, Legendre polynomials are used to approximate the components of the displacement field in the thickness direction. So, all stress and strain components are encountered. Either uniform or three kinds of non-uniform distribution of graphene platelets (GPLs) into polymer matrix are considered. The Young modulus of the FG-GPLRC plate is estimated by the modified Halpin-Tsai model, while the Poisson ratio and mass density are determined by the rule of mixtures. The Hamilton’s principle is used to obtain the governing equations of motion and the associated boundary conditions of the plate. For solving the plate’s equations of motion, the Galerkin approach is applied. A comparison for the natural frequencies obtained based on the present investigation and those of three-dimensional elasticity theory shows a very good agreement. The flutter boundaries for FG-GPLRC plates based on HOSNDPT are described and the effects of GPL distribution patterns, the geometrical parameters and the weight fraction of GPLs on the flutter frequencies and flutter aerodynamic pressure of the plate are studied in detail. The obtained results show that by increasing 0.5% of GPLs into polymer matrix, the flutter aerodynamic pressure increases approximately 117%, 145%, 166% and 196% for FG-O, FG-A, UD and FG-X distribution patterns, respectively.
