외국어로 의사를 소통하는 과정에서 우리는 여러가지 문제에 봉착하게 된다. 본 논문은 우리가 영어를 사용할 때 겪을 수 있는 몇 가지 문제를 유형별로 고찰한다. 그 내용을 간략히 소개하여 보겠다. 첫째는 어떤 영어의 표현에 대한 우리의 해석과 영미인의 해석이 달라 오해가 생기는 경우를 생각할 수 있다. 예를 들어 “한국 처녀들이 마음에 듭니까?"라는 뜻으로 한국인들이 흔히 “How do you like Korean virgins?" 라고 하는데 영미 안들은 이를 “한국 처 녀의 맛이 어떻습니까?" 정도의 뜻으로 이해하기 때문에 한국인의 의도와 영미인의 해석 사이에는 상당한 거리가 있어 communication 이 제대로 되지 못할 수 있다. 둘째로 영어에서 온 것으로 잘못 인식되기 쉬운 외래어가 문제를 야기할 수 있다. 예를 들어 우리는 운동선수의 배번을 백넘버라고 하는데 영어의 back number 는 잡지등의 과월호라는 뜻밖에 없으므로 우리가 배번이 라는 뭇으로 back number 라는 말을 사용하면 영미안은 이를 “엉뚱한”뜻으로 받아들일 수 있을 것이다. 셋째로 영어에는 존대법이 없다는 우리의 잘못된 생각이 문제가 될 수 있다. 예를 들어 His father passed away 라 하면 “그의 부친께서 세상을 뜨셨다”라는 뜻이 되고 “His old man kicked the bucket" 라 하면 “그의 꼰대가 뛔졌다”라는 뭇이 되는 둥 영어에도 존대법의 구분이 잘 되어 있다. 그런데 우리는 이런 구분을 모르고 있어 살수를 범하는 일이 흔히 있다. 넷째로 영미문화의 특수한 배경에서 생긴 표현들의 올바른 이해가 그리 쉽지 않는데 이것이 문제가 될 수 있다. 예를 들어 A Horatio Alger story 는 “입지전적인 이야기”라는 뜻 인데 이는 Horatio Alger 가 19세기 미국의 저명한 “입지전적 소설”의 작가인 데서 유래한 표현이다. 이러한 배경을 모르는 우리 한국인들이 이 표현을 제대로 이해하기란 지극히 어려운 것이다.
Influence of Dy Doping on Electrical Properties and dc Aging Behaviors of Zn-Pr-Co-Cr System

The electrical properties and dc aging behavior for specified stress state of system, which is composed of quaternary Zn-Pr-Co-Cr, were investigated for different $Dy_2O_3$ addition doping level. As $Dy_2O_3$ doping level increased, the density decreased in the range of 5.51-4.90 $g/cm^3$, reaching maximum at 0.5 mol% and the average ZnO grain size decreased in the range of 17.7-6.0 ${\mu}m$. The incorporation of $Dy_2O_3$ significantly improved the non-ohmic properties, above 30 in non-ohmic coefficient, compared with that of undoped samples. The samples with the best performance of non-ohmic properties were obtained for $Dy_2O_3$ doping level of 1.0 mol%, with 49 in non-ohmic coefficient and 2.6 ${\mu}A/cm^2$ in leakage current. The samples with the highest stability were obtained for $Dy_2O_3$ doping level of 0.5 mol%.

The microstructure and electrical properties of the varistors, which are composed of $ZnO-Pr_6O_{11}-CoO-Cr_2O_3-La_2O_3-based$ ceramics, were investigated for different $La_2O_3$ contents. The increase of $La_2O_3$ content led to more densified ceramics, whereas abruptly decreased the nonlinear properties by incorporating beyond 1.0 mol%. The highest nonlinearity was obtained from 0.5 mol% $La_2O_3$, with the nonlinear coefficient of 81.6 and the leakage current of $0.2{\mu}A$. The increase of sintering time and temperature greatly decreased the nonlinear properties. As the $La_2O_3$ content increased, the donor density increased from $0.64\times10^{18}/cm^3\;to\;16.89\times10^{18}/cm^3$ and the barrier height greatly decreased with increasing $La_2O_3$ content, reaching a maximum (1.47 eV) in 0.5 mol% $La_2O_3$.

<P>Retrograde bone morphogenetic protein signaling mediated by the Glass bottom boat (Gbb) ligand modulates structural and functional synaptogenesis at the <I>Drosophila melanogaster</I> neuromuscular junction. However, the molecular mechanisms regulating postsynaptic Gbb release are poorly understood. In this study, we show that <I>Drosophila</I> Rich (dRich), a conserved Cdc42-selective guanosine triphosphatase–activating protein (GAP), inhibits the Cdc42–Wsp pathway to stimulate postsynaptic Gbb release. Loss of dRich causes synaptic undergrowth and strongly impairs neurotransmitter release. These presynaptic defects are rescued by targeted postsynaptic expression of wild-type dRich but not a GAP-deficient mutant. dRich inhibits the postsynaptic localization of the Cdc42 effector Wsp (<I>Drosophila</I> orthologue of mammalian Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein, WASp), and manifestation of synaptogenesis defects in <I>drich</I> mutants requires Wsp signaling. In addition, dRich regulates postsynaptic organization independently of Cdc42. Importantly, dRich increases Gbb release and elevates presynaptic phosphorylated Mad levels. We propose that dRich coordinates the Gbb-dependent modulation of synaptic growth and function with postsynaptic development.</P>
A Theoretical Study on the Alkylation of the Ambident Enolate from a Methyl Glycinate Schiff Base

The alkylation of the ambident enolates of a methyl glycinate Schiff base with ethyl chloride was studied at B3LYP and MP2 levels with $6-31+G^*$ basis set. The free (E)-enolates and (Z)-enolate are similar in energy and geometry. The transition states for the alkylation of the free (E)/(Z)-enolate with ethyl chloride have similar energy barriers of ~13 kcal/mol. However, with a lithium ion, the (E)-enolate behaves as an ambident enolate and makes a cyclic lithium-complex in bidentate pattern which is more stable by 11-23 kcal/mol than the (Z)-enolate-lithium complexes. And the TS for the alkylation of (E)-enolate-lithium complex coordinated with one methyl ether is lower in energy than those from (Z)-enolate-lithium complexes by 4.3-7.3 kcal/mol. Further solvation model (SCRF-CPCM) and reaction coordinate (IRC) were studied. This theoretical study suggests that the alkylation of ambident enolates proceeds with stable cyclic bidentate complexes in the presence of metal ion and solvent.

This study describes the doping effect of $Yb_2O_3$ on microstructure, electrical and dielectric properties of $ZnO-V_2O_5-MnO_2-Nb_2O_5$ (ZVMN) ceramic semiconductors sintered at a temperature as low as $900^{\circ}C$. As the doping content of $Yb_2O_3$ increases, the ceramic density slightly increases from 5.50 to $5.54g/cm^3$; also, the average ZnO grain size is in the range of $5.3-5.6{\mu}m$. The switching voltage increases from 4,874 to 5,494 V/cm when the doping content of $Yb_2O_3$ is less than 0.1 mol%, whereas further doping decreases this value. The ZVMN ceramic semiconductors doped with 0.1 mol% $Yb_2O_3$ reveal an excellent nonohmic coefficient as high as 70. The donor density of ZnO gain increases in the range of $2.46-7.41{\times}10^{17}cm^{-3}$ with increasing doping content of $Yb_2O_3$ and the potential barrier height and surface state density at the grain boundaries exhibits a maximum value (1.25 eV) at 0.1 mol%. The dielectric constant (at 1 kHz) decreases from 592.7 to 501.4 until the doping content of $Yb_2O_3$ reaches 0.1 mol%, whereas further doping increases it. The value of $tan{\delta}$ increases from 0.209 to 0.268 with the doping content of $Yb_2O_3$.
A HISTOLOGIC STUDY ON THE RESPONSES OF PULP IN EXPERIMENTAL TOOTH MOVEMENT OF WHITE RATS

著者는 흰쥐 27首 下顎第一大臼齒를 矯正用 고무線으로 移動시킨후, 移動의 初期에 나타나는 齒髓의 反應을 組織學的 方法으로 觀찰하는 것을 硏究目的으로 하였다. 30Gm부터 120Gm까지의 힘을, 12首는 3日間, 15首는 7日間, 各 實驗齒牙에 賦與하였다. 觀察結果는 다음과 같았다. 1. 齒髓組織의 主變化는 齒髓血管의 循環障碍와 造象牙細胞의 空胞形式으로 나타났다. 2. 適用시킨 힘의 增加에 따라서 上記 組織變化의 範圍가 擴大되었다. 3. 其外에 齒根의 象牙質과 白堊質의 部分的 吸收도 볼 수 있었다.
