SERS (Surface-enhanced Raman scattering) promises as an efficient tool for identification of diverse targets because it has stability against photobleaching and unique signal patterns with narrow band width. To obtain powerful SERS signals, the structure of metal substrate is crucial. Until now, varied approaches have been attempted to sensitively detect targets in low concentration. Herein, we have synthesized magnetic silica nanoparticles-embedded silver nanoshell that has both magnetic and SERS properties for SERS detection. The bumpy silver nanoshell could produce ‘Hot Spots’, guiding to powerful SERS signals. Furthermore, magnetic-induced aggregation made SERS signals further stronger.

In this study, we synthesized tri-functional NPs (MF-SERS Dots) composed of clustered Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub> NPs at core part, assembled Ag NPs, and a silica shell layer containing fluorescent dye. The SERS signals from the synthesized NPs were strong enough to be detected from even single asymmetric aromatic molecule, and the NPs exhibited fluorescence. In addition, the characteristics of each modality of the MF-SERS Dots were preserved after cellular uptake. Moreover, the MF-SERS Dots could be modified with the CD44 antibody via an amide coupling reaction, and successfully targeted the CD44-positive cells. The tri-functional NPs having SERS, magnetic and fluorescent properties are expected to be useful to nanoprobes for cell separation and multiplexed detection. It is expected that the nanoprobe will be useful for rapid scanning, sensitive detection and separation in bioapplications.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the seismic performance of the existing reinforced concrete frames with strengthening beam-column joints. The repairing and strengthening methods of RC joint are to inject the epoxy resin between the surface of concrete and covering PGpanels. As the experimental results, a specimen with strengthening beam-column joints showed more ductile behavior than a specimen without strengthening.

The purpose of this shaking table test is to evaluate the dynamic response characteristics of the base-isolated flat plate structure. For the purpose, the first one of two specimens was designed to specimen with shear band reinforcement and the other was designed to specimen using base-isolated system using the envelope design method which was applied to the flat plate structure specimen. The shaking table test was performed using El_Centro seismic wave(PGA=357m/s2). As the result of the test, the specimen using isolation system was predominant the response-reduction performance and energy absorption capacity than the other.

In this paper, the purpose is to confirm the dynamic Response characteristics of the base-isolated structure for shake table test and the validity of the envelope design method. For the purpose, this research was conducted in three different stages. First, a isolator(Rubber-Metal Laminated Bearing) and a damper(U-shape Steel Damper using SS400 or HTS) were designed based on the envelope design method which were applied to the two-story steel frame specimen. Second, the isolator and the damper were tested to confirm the shear-performances of them. And then, the analytical parameters of nonlinear time history analysis were set up based on the results of shear tests. Lastly, nonlinear time history analysis were conducted. As the result of the study, the high performances of the seismic isolation system and the validity of the envelope design method were confirmed.
Fabrication of Remarkably Bright QD Densely-Embedded Silica Nanoparticle

We developed a synthesis method for silica-coated quantum dot (QD)-densely-embedded silica nanoparticle (Si@D-QD@Si NP) with remarkably brighter fluorescence by increasing the number of QDs on silica NPs. Si@D-QD@Si NPs exhibited a narrow size distribution and a high signal reproducibility. Red, green, and blue Si@D-QD@Si NPs were successfully fabricated and characterized. The Si@D-QD@Si NP carried 2.4 times more QDs than previously reported silica-coated QD-embedded silica NP (Si@QD@Si NP). The quantum yield of Si@D-QD@Si NPs was slightly higher than Si@QD@Si NPs. The red Si@D-QD@Si NPs showed approximately 26.6%, the green Si@D-QD@Si NP 36.2%, and the blue Si@D-QD@Si NP 39.3% higher fluorescence intensity compared to the corresponding Si@QD@Si NPs. This result implied that the particles can be used at bio-field with a higher sensitive detection.

We were successful developed a facile and large-scale synthesis of SERS dots with high reproducibilityand long-term stability. Nine kinds of SERS dots with representative and selective Raman bands werefabricated, allowing for simultaneous detection of multiple SERS dots. High sensitivity of SERS dots wasdemonstrated by analyzing single particles and show sufficient sensitivity to detect a single particle withaverage enhancement factor in the order of 1.0 105. Also, SERS dots were stabilized for 300 h. Thesefeatures suggest that the SERS dots can be utilized as a targeting agent in practical applications.
