An orifice type of aerodynamic lens is generally used to focus nanoparticles. However, it is impossible to focus particles smaller than 10㎚ in air due to flow instability of fluid in a lens. In this study, we propose a new converging-diverging type of the aerodynamic lens capable of focusing particles of 5-50㎚ in air. Designing factors of the lens configurations is also extracted and explained in detail through a numerical simulation. It was demonstrated that the aerosols are delivered from the entrance to the downstream of the lens system with 90% transmission efficiency. The final beam diameters are shown to be more or less 1㎜ in the range of particle size.
나이테 Ca/Al를 이용한 남부지역 소나무 산림의 토양 산성화 이력 평가

Soil acidification, which is known to be one of the reasons of forest decline, is associated with decreases exchangeable Ca and increases in Al concentration, leading to low Ca/Al ratio in soil solution. As tree rings are datable archives of environmental changes, Ca/Al ratios of annual growth ring may show deceasing pattern in accordance with the progress of soil acidification. This study was conducted to investigate Ca/Al pattern of Pinus densiflora tree ring in relation with the changed exchangeable Ca/Al ratios of soils with the progress of soil acidification. Three P. densiflora tree disks were collected from P. densiflora forests in Jeonnam province, and soil samples (0-10, 10-20, and 20-30 cm in depth) were also collected from the tree locations. Soils were analyzed for pH, exchangeable Ca and Al concentrations, and Ca/Al was calculated. Annual growth rings formed between 1969 and 2007 were separated and analyzed for Ca/Al. Soil Ca/Al was positively (P<0.01) correlated with soil pH, reflecting changed soil chemistry due to soil acidification. The Ca/Al of tree rings also showed a decreasing pattern from 18.2 to 5.5 during the period, and this seemed to reflect historical acidification of the soils. Our results suggest that Ca/Al of tree ring is likely to be affected by exchangeable Ca/Al ratio of the soils and thus it needs to be considered as a proxy of the progress of soil acidification in P. densiflora forest in southern Korea.

It is important to increase the area of potato cultivation in the fall season for a stable year-round supply system in Korea. Saemangeum reclaimed land has the potential to extension of potato cultivation area with appropriate practices. This study was performed to test applicability of fertilizer recommendation in southern coastal area to the Saemangeum area. Two experiments were conducted: one experiment compared the yield response of potato between standard rates of N-P-K (SR) and recommendation rates of N-P-K based on soil test (STR) and the other experiment analyzed yield response to 4 different levels of N, P, K, respectively. The potato yield in SR was 6.05 Mg ha<SUP>-1</SUP> on average and varied from 1.68 Mg ha<SUP>-1</SUP> to 11.80 Mg ha<SUP>-1</SUP>. The potato yield in STR, meanwhile, ranged from 8.13 Mg ha<SUP>-1</SUP> to 12.17 Mg ha<SUP>-1</SUP> with a mean value of 9.65 Mg ha<SUP>-1</SUP>. Potato yield was increased linearly with N fertilization rates but P and K fertilization did not have any significant effect on potato growth. The N fertilization rate (NFR) and the soil available phosphate content (Av. P₂O<SUB>5</SUB>) had significant positive correlation with soil available phosphate content with potato yield (p<0.01). Based on stepwise multiple regression analysis, partial regression coefficient was 0.30 for NFR and 0.08 for Av. P₂O<SUB>5</SUB>; Y = 19.6 X₁ + 34.9 X₂ + 1,410, where Y, X₁, and X₂ mean potato yield, NFR, and Av. P₂O<SUB>5</SUB>, respectively. Conclusively, STR was strongly recommended for potato in the Saemangeum reclaimed land and the conventional standard fertilization rate was hardly applicable to the area, especially for nitrogen.
