Under the present fee-fur-service paying system in medical insurance, over uti1izatiun of services is inevitable leading to financial deficit of medical insurance eventually. Fortunately the government tried to develop Koreanized DRG/PPS for years and we can Look forward to seeing its implementation even though the commencement was postponed 2001. Most c1inical laboraturies in the medical institutiuns were knuwn as profit centers because they can yield earnings as much accurding tu the amuunt uf urder frum v,따iuus departments in the institutiun. If the DRG/pPS system is in furce, the amuunt of paying fur the services ufferedtu a patient uf certain categurized disease will be flat irrespective uf the service vulume. Cunsequent1y must hospitals will be cuncemed about the efficiency ever mure rendering their services as less as possible. Already hospitals are relying un managerial solutions to cut the cost against the coming fmancial difficulties. Among the strategies they are pursuing TQM, Restructuring, Downsizing, Process Improvement, Job redesign and Cultural change can be their major interests. As a subsystem of the medical institutiun, the laboratory could be a cost center incurring mure Cost if they du mure tests for the same patient. Each laboratury has to consider about the situatiunal changes and establish its uwn strategies based un cost-effective test uti1izatiun. The distinct two points wi11 be the effective management and cost-saving in the laboratury. Nuw we should try to find possible sulutions fur the efficient laboratory through TQM, EBM, Standardization of medical care, Critical Path, Downsizing, Restructuring and Reengineering.

Manuscripts dealing with the development and evaluation of performance of methods and instruments should discuss chemical sensitivity and specificity, detection limits, precision, accuracy, recovery, interference, comparison with other analytical methods ,and normal range, and when appropriate should include clinical data. Linear regression analysis is a commonly used technique in analyzing method comparison data. If a linear relationship between the test and reference method can be defined, then the slope and intercept of this line can provide estimates of the proportional and constant error between the two methods. However if the basic assumptions underlying the least-squares model are not met, the estimated line may be incorrect. The Syncron CX5, a random access type analyser used for routine clinical chemistry determinations, was compared to the Gilford 203 S. The analysis of data obtained by running serum samples in parallel on two instruments indicates that the Beckman CX5 correlates with the Gilford 203 S although there were some bias.
