This study intends to draw out functional regions by using logistics flows in Seoul Metropolitan Area and Chungcheong Province, moreover to investigate inter-regional linkages within functional regions as well as interrelationship between functional regions. The features of functional regions were examined in consideration of their hierarchical structure, origin-destination links, linkage types between functional regions and provinces, and the type of logistic goods. The result showed the close linkage structure between southern part of SMA and northern part of Chungcheong Province in terms of logistic flows as well as unique features of each functional regions within the studying area.

The purpose of this study is to compare inter-regional linkage system characteristics by person trips and freight flows in the capital region. Aspects of hierarchy and linkage analysis, person trips and freight flows are composed of different inter-regional linkage system each other. Also, inter-regional linkage system shows differences in the directivity and spatial characteristics. ‘Spatial linkage between adjacent regions of person trips’ according to distance resistance and ‘non-predictive spatial linkage of freight flows’ are clearly divided. Especially, in case of person trips, it composes 5 axes shown like a radial form. On the other hand, the inter-regional linkage system of freight flows shows differences with the inter-regional linkage system of person trips in that it displays spatial scope`s crossed patterns on lower layer while not reveling regular direction. As the result of restoring each inter-regional linkage system to topological network, central tendency is displayed low all together. The person trip network is labelled to ‘distributed structure in radial dendrite’ and the freight flow network to ‘distributed structure with partial intensity.’
