Background and Objectives:Subjects and Method:Both normal mucosa and tumor tissue samples were secured from 17 cases to a total of 34 samples to be examined with a methylation- specific PCR (LOH) using a panel of 41 microsatellite markers on 8 chromosomes. Results:The patern of methylation changes between the paired normal mucosa and tumor site was variable. Of the total of 206 cases examined for the methylation status of non-CpG island, 34 cases showed hy-pomethylation changes, 26 cases hypermethylation changes, and 31 cases no methylation changes. Regions containting CpG is-lands had 8 cases showing hypomethylation changes, 17 cases hypermethylation changes, and 31 cases of no methylation ch-downstream 0.7 kbp, p16 upstream 1.0 kbp, and hMLH1 upstream 1.0 kbp showed hypomethylation, whereas BGLAP upstream 4.5 kbp, Runx3 upstream 1.7 kbp, KIA downstream 0.4 kbp showed hypermethylation. However, the rest of the genes were not changed. In 29 tumor foci, a LOH was found most frequently on the chromosomes 3p, 8p, 9p, and 13q. Interestingly, alth-ough other previous reports have not reported the detection of 8p chromosomal loss in head and neck cancer, this study frequ-ently detected 8p chromosomal loss. Chromosomal loss yielded an overall mean value of 4.79± 2.2 per tumor focus. A special relationship could not be drawn based on thand hMLH1, there were diferences betwen the hypomethylation. Genetic instability was raised when hypomethylation incre-ased. Conclusion:This study showed that the head and neck cancer and its progresion generally need the proper level of chro-mosomal losses to accomplish cancer progression or development. Methylation pattern and LOH might be important rules and target event in head and neck cancer. In the future, experiments to find the point of genetic modification will help the way to pre-vent the cancer. (Korean J Otolaryngol 2007 ;50 :145-56)

지방자치단체의 지역 기록화 사업 현황과 지속가능성 검토

This study analyzes the system and operational status of regional documentation programs conducted by local governments and aims to propose considerations for the sustainability of regional documentation programs. With the government’s balanced national development policy, the city or culture departments of local governments promoted regional documentation programs as part of their urban and cultural policies. Each local government enacted landscape ordinances and the ordinances concerning the establishment and operation of urban historical and cultural archives and promoted urban regeneration projects. Based on this, local governments performed urban landscape documentation, urban historical and cultural archives, and urban regeneration project documentation. Consequently, this study compared and analyzed ordinance enactment, budget, acquisition, management, and utilization of records for a total of 55 cases. The study has found that legislation is an essential factor in the sustainability of local governments’ regional documentation programs. In addition, it suggested that regional documentation programs should evaluate the performance of programs, ensure residents’ participation, and create digital archives to secure the budget continuously. This study is concerned in the constructional features of Korean traditional spectacle cases. It aims to understand the constructional properties of this everyday-use object, and thus to provide basic data for their designs necessary to create high added value. Research method is an analysis of the relics on display at museums and investigation of relevant literature, from Joseon Dynasty up to modern times. Objects of this study are limited to the cases with portable strings. This study has found that the constructional features of traditional spectacle cases differ by the opening and closing method, bridge type, materiel and manufacturing techniques. Materials used include wood, fabric, lacquer, paper, leather, fishskin, hawksbill, cows horns, metal, knit fabric, and others. Manufacturing techniques include sculpture, dyeing, embroidery, quilting, inlay, paper-weaving and knitting. They include traditional craft techniques. It was found that traditional craftsmanship of Korea has been widely employed, which resulted in appearance of a variety of applied expressive methods. Traditional spectacle cases are composed of a body, a string and an ornament. By way of inheriting and developing the unique traditional culture of Korea, we could more than anything else turn out cultural products representative of our distinctive identity in a globalized modern society, thereby contributing to create higher added values. It is only hoped that designs wherein tradition and modernity are in perfect harmony will follow, making best use of the structural features, that is, the open or close type, and the varying expressive and manufacturing techniques according to materials of traditional spectacle cases.
