The present study was to investigate anti-microbial effects of curcumin on major bacterial pathogens for farmed fish, such as Aeromonas hydrophila, A. salmonicida subsp. masoucida, A. salmonicida subsp. salmonicida, Edwardsiella tarda, Vibrio vulnificus, V. paraheamolyticus using disk diffusion, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) tests. In disc diffusion test, curcumin exhibited concentration-dependent antimicrobial activities to all bacteria pathogens used in the study. Antimicrobial effects of curcumin was found differently depending on bacterial species when determined by MIC or MBC tests. For examples, E. tarda and A. hydrophila was respectively the most sensitive bacterium for bacteriostatic and bacteriocidal effect of curcumin. Collectively, curcumin could be a potential natural drug for controlling pathogenic bacteria in the aquaculture industry.

The acute and subacute toxicities of malachite green were evaluated in guppy (Poecilia reticulatus). Dipping of fishes for acute toxicity was performed for a period of 24 hrs, and TLm24h value (median tolerance limit=LC₅₀) was 0.23 ppm. Severe damages were observed in various organs and among them, clubbing of gill filaments, lytic degeneration and vacuolation of liver cells, and epithelial edema of renal tubules were relatively prominent. The most significant change was mild epithelial edema of gill lamellas in subacute toxicity test which fishes were exposed to 0.025 ppm of malachite green for 1week.

The present study was to investigate in vitro antimicrobial effects of propolis against six different fish bacterial pathogens, Aeromonas hydrophila, Edwardsiella tarda, Vibrio vulnificus, V. parahaemolyticus, A. salmonicida subsp. masoucida, A. salmonicida subsp. salmonicida) using minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bacteriocidal concentration (MBC) tests. In the results, propolis exhibited antimicrobial activity against all bacteria used in the present study, but there was no marked difference in bacterial species except Vibrio species. Collectively, propolis was thought to be an usefulness antimicrobial substance for controlling bacterial diseases in the fish industry.
양식어류에 있어서 생약제제(바이오감마믹스)의 경구투여에 의한 효능 및 안전성에 관한 연구

A study on efficacy and safety of Bio-Gammamix was performed to use for the preventive drug against bacterial diseases to mirror carp(Cyprinus carpio), rainbow trout(Salmo gairdneri), eel(Anguilla japonica) and flounder(Paralichthys olivaceus). The main ingredients of Bio-Gammamix were ferrous fumarate and mixed extrated powders of licorice root, ox bile and garlic. The test drug was proved to improve feeding habit and feed efficiency and decrease cumulative mortality remarkably. After administration, no side effects and histopathological changes were observed. We can prevent outbreaks of bacterial diseases of fish by the dosage of 1kg/ton of fish body weight perorally once or two times in a day for 7 days and Bio-Gammamix is thought to be used effectively an widely against most bacterial fish pathogens.
잉어치어(稚魚)와 금붕어에 대한 folpet의 급성(急性) 및 아급성독성(亞急性毒性)에 관한 연구

The acute and subacute toxicity of fungicide folpet was evaluated in fingerings of common carp, Cyprinus carpio and goldfish, Carrassius auratus. Dipping of fishes for acute toxicity was performed for a period of 24h, and the TLm value(median tolerance limit) was 1.52 ppm in common carp and 1.45 ppm in goldfish. Severe damages were observed in various organs and among them, clubbing of gill lamella, lytic degeneration and vacuolation of liver cells, and epithelial edema of renal tubules were relatively prominent. The most significant changes were hyperbasophilic foci of liver cells in subacute toxicity test and these can imply the possibility of hepatocarcinogenecity of folpet.
