        TR4 Inhibits LXR-mediated Decrease of Lipid Accumulation in 3T3-L1 Adipocytes

        TR4 has been suggested to play an important role in lipid metabolism in adipocytes. Although TR4 facilitates lipid accumulation during adipogenesis, the regulatory effect of TR4 on lipid storage in mature adipocytes remains unclear. We showed that TR4 inhibited the LXR agonist GW3965-mediated decrease of lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. A reporter gene analysis revealed that TR4 suppressed LXRα transcriptional activity, although LXRα was unable to affect TR4 transcriptional activity. Moreover, adding TR4 resulted in reduced LXRα binding to the LXR responsive element in a gel shift assay. Additionally, the suppressive effect of GW3965 on perilipin expression and lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1adipocytes was abolished by TR4 overexpression. Taken together, our data demonstrate that TR4 plays an inhibitory role in LXRα-mediated suppression of lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. This TR4 protective effect is mediated, in part,by blocking the suppressive effect of GW3965 on perilipin gene expression.

        임베디드 부호화 기법을 이용한 점진적 관심영역 부호화

        영상 내에서 중요한 내용을 포함하고 있는 관심영역 (region of interest: ROI)을 나머지 영역보다 우선적으로 전송하는 점진적 관심영역 부호화 방법은 웹 검색이나 영상 데이터베이스 시스템에 유용하게 사용될 수 있다. 관심영역 부호화 방법은 전 영역을 동일한 중요도로 전송하는 일반적인 점진적 부호화(progressive coding) 방법과는 달리, 특정 영역을 우선적으로 부호화하여 전송하기 때문에 짧은 시간 내에 매우 적은 양의 수신된 비트스트림을 가지고 원영상의 내용을 파악할 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 비트율 제어와 점진적 전송 기술을 적용하기 용이한 임베디드 부호화 방법을 이용한 점진적 관심영역 부호화 방법과, 원영상에 대한 관심영역의 위치정보를 효율적으로 전송하는 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법은 웹 검색이나 영상 데이터베이스 시스템 등의 응용 분야에 효과적으로 적용할 수 있음을 실험 결과를 통하여 확인하였다. In image coding applications such as web browsing and image database searching, it is very useful to quickly view a small portion of the image with higher quality. Region of interest (ROI) coding technique provides the capability to reconstruct the ROI in advance of decompressing the rest of the image, with a smaller number of transmitted bits compared to the case where the entire image is treated with the same priority. In this paper, a progressive ROI coding method using the enbedded coder is presented, and an efficient transmission method for the ROI information. Experimental results show that the proposed progressive ROI coding technique can be effectively used for image coding applications such as web browsing and image database searching system.

        상사의 비인격적 감독과 조직공정성 및 조직효과성에 미치는 영향: 특급호텔 조리사를 중심으로

        A lot of kitchen staffs feel unfair and organizational justice is not realized when improper and abusive supervision is being done by their supervisor or boss. This study attempts to identify whether the abusive supervision in 5-star hotels’ kitchen has an effect on the organizational justice and effectiveness. In order to undertake the empirical research, hypotheses and survey questionnaires were designed and distributed to the restaurant kitchen of the 5-star hotels in Seoul and Daejeon. Approximately, 400 questionnaires were distributed but 360 observations were used for the statistical analysis. Structural equation modelling was employed to verify the hypotheses. It was found out that abusive supervision affects the organizational justice which leads to the organizational effectiveness. Organizational justice played a major role as a perfect mediating variable in order to predict the effectiveness of kitchen organization. The results implies that hotel kitchen organization should be monitored and controlled to prevent the abusive supervision since the organizational effectiveness is directly related to the organizational justice.

        Pyriproxyfen inhibits the suppressive effect of inflammatory signal on TR4 activity

        Obesity causes a chronic inflammatory state by increasing secretion of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα), which alters signaling pathways critical for metabolic homeostasis, leading to obesity‐related metabolic disorders. Here, we demonstrate that TNFα inhibits testicular orphan nuclear receptor 4 (TR4) transcriptional activity and this TNFα inhibition of TR4 activity is reduced by treatment of Pyriproxyfen (PYR), a juvenile hormone (JH) analog. In addition, nuclear factor‐kappa B (NF‐κB), a key transcription regulator of inflammation, also suppressed TR4 transactivation by physical interaction with TR4, reducing TR4 binding affinity for TR4 response elements located in its target gene promoters. Consistently, NF‐κB‐suppressed TR4 activity was partially restored by PYR treatment. Furthermore, TNFα inhibited mRNA levels of TR4 target genes such as, FATP1 and PC with reduction of lipid accumulation in 3 T3‐L1 adipocytes while PYR suppressed TNFα inhibition of TR4 target gene expression, resulting in recovery of lipid accumulation of adipocytes, suggesting that PYR enhances lipid homeostasis disturbed by inflammatory signaling and this PYR effect could be achieved in part by stimulating TR4 transcriptional activity. Together, our data show that PYR regulates inflammatory signaling in adipocytes and thus, small molecules based on insect hormones could be an alternative approach to control obesity‐related metabolic disorders.

        안면외상 환자의 외상성 뇌손상의 예측 인자로 안면 전산화단층촬영을 이용한 시각신경집 지름 측정의 유용성

        Purpose: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs frequently in patients with facial injuries. In patients with facial injuries without neurologic deficit, it is a challenging decision for emergency physicians whether brain computed tomography (CT) is necessary or not. Our objective is to evaluate the availability of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) measured by facial CT in predicting TBI. Methods: From January, 2010, to December, 2012, we conducted a retrospective study of patients with head or facial injuries who underwent both facial CT and brain CT simultaneously in the emergency department. Patients with obvious orbital trauma or ocular disease were excluded. We analyzed correlation between ONSD measured by facial CT and the brain CT findings of TBI. Results: A total of 229 patients were enrolled. Ninety six patients without TBI on facial CT showed mean ONSD of 5.11±0.44 mm, and 82 patients with TBI showed mean ONSD of 5.89±0.78 mm. The sensitivity and the specificity compared with the presence of TBI findings on brain CT were 78.05% and 82.29%, respectively, when the cut-off value was set to 5.5 mm. The area under the curve (AUC) was 0.826 in the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve). Conclusion: ONSD measured on facial CT is available for predicting TBI in patients with facial injuries.

        Conjugated Linoleic Acid Negatively Regulates TR4 Activity in 3T3-L1 Adipocytes

        Dietary conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) play key roles in lipid metabolism. Here, we investigated the effect of CLA on the transcriptional activity of TR4, an orphan nuclear receptor that plays an important role in lipid homeostasis. CLA increased TR4 gene mRNA level in 3T3-L1 adipocytes, but inhibited TR4 transcriptional activity in a dose-dependent manner. TR4induced perilipin expression in 3T3-L1 adipocytes by activating perilipin promoter activity. In a gel shift assay, TR4 bound direct to the putative TR4 response element in the perilipin promoter. Interestingly, CLA reduced the interaction between TR4 and consensus DR1, a well-known TR4 binding site. Additionally, CLA inhibited TR4-induced perilipin promoter activity in a dose-dependent manner. Together, our results suggest that CLA may play a role in lipid homeostasis in adipocytes by functionally regulating TR4.

        특급호텔 조리종사자의 직무환경, 업무효율과 직무만족의 상관관계

        Kitchen employees in the luxury hotel industry play extremely significant role in contributing to the hotel revenue. The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of kitchen employees’ working environment and job efficiency on job satisfaction in the hotel industry. The major research findings are as follows. Working environment turned out to be categorized into three factors including physical environment1 (organized working environment), physical environment2 (equipment & facilities) and psychological environment. The work environment including physical and psychological affects the work efficiency and job satisfaction respectively. The following implications can be drawn based on the statistical results. Firstly, the allocation of facilities and equipment, appropriate working space, menu preparation and simplifying the cooking process are required in order to increase the work efficiency. Secondly, not only the physical environment but also the psychological environment such as advice and attention of superiors and appropriate compliment toward job performance need to be considered in order to improve the level of job satisfaction. Lastly, flexible work environment appropriate work allocation must be ensured since the job satisfaction is subject to the work efficiency.
