The velocity-storage circuit comprised of bilateral vestibular nucleus complexes, commissural fiber, and nodulus and uvula functions in refining the raw vestibular signal to estimate rotational velocity, gravity direction, and inertia. In this review, we pursued the functional significance of this velocity-storage circuit and how this physiologic knowledge could help us understand the clinical symptoms and signs of patients with vestibular disorders.

중국동포 및 북한이탈주민에 대한 한국인의 인식

We investigate South Korean natives’ perceptions of Korean Chinese (KC) and North Korean refugees (NKR) with a sample of 4,094 natives from an online survey. We find that respondents, only a minority of whom have interacted with them, have substantial misperceptions on these immigrant groups. Specifically, natives underestimated the income and education level of KC and NKR but overestimated their crime rate and population size. However, misperceptions about NKR are not related to natives’ preferences for reunification and policies supporting this group. Our findings provide novel insights to the understanding of the public’s perceptions on and support for immigrant groups. 본 연구는 4,094명의 한국인을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하여 한국인 원주민이 중국동포 및 북한이탈주민에 대해서 갖고 있는 인식을 조사했다. 설문참여자 중 소수만이 중국동포 및 북한이탈주민과 교류경험이 있다고 응답하였으며, 이들에 대한 인식이 상당히 왜곡되어 있음을 발견했다. 구체적으로, 중국동포와 북한이탈주민의 임금과 교육수준을 저평가하고, 범죄율과 인구규모는 과대추정하였다. 그러나, 북한이탈주민에 대한 인식 오류 정도와 통일 혹은 북한이탈주민 정책 관련 선호는 큰 상관이 없음을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 이민자 집단에 대한 대중의 인식 및 지원과 관련하여 새로운 통찰을 제공한다.

Factors Affecting Time to Bony Union of Femoral Subtrochanteric Fractures Treated with Intramedullary Devices

Purpose: To evaluate the factors affecting the bone union time and the occurrence of nonunion after intramedullary nailing of subtrochanteric femoral fractures in adults. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed data from 31 patients (22 men and 9 women) who had undergone femoral intramedullary nailing at least 1 year post-operatively and analyzed the bone union time, nonunion rates, and factors that affected the bone union time according to the fracture classification (AO and Fielding classifications), comminution of the medial cortex, reduction method, and additional cerclage wiring. Results: The average union time was 26.4 weeks. There were no differences in the bone union time according to the fracture classification, reduction method, or additional cerclage wiring. Significant differences were found in the bone union time between the medial cortex comminution and non-comminution groups. A relatively strongpositive correlation was detected between the degree of post-operative displacement and the bone union time. Nonunion occurred in three cases and there was no failure of implants. Conclusion: The bone union time was not affected by the reduction method nor additional cerclage wiring in intramedullary nailing of subtrochanteric femur fractures. Comminution of the medial cortex and the degree of the postoperative displacement of fractures contributed to the delayed time of union.

부산시 중구 40계단 문화의 거리 조성계획

In study, various notions regarding historic landscapes and rehabilitation were first investigated, and efficient rehabilitation schemes on modem historic landscapes were analyzed. On the basis of these theological analyses, an underlying scheme on the rehabilitation of modern historic landscapes was drawn up for '40 Stair Cultural Street' in Jung-gu, Busan City. Rehabilitating historic landscapes not only expresses a positive method to preserving sites and relics of heritage, but also an idea of preservation and rehabilitation based on interpretations from a historical perspective of value in this present day. Its significance is, therefore, to construct an ideal urban landscape in which the past, present and future can coexist. The rehabilitation of historic landscapes will become a psychological pillar to the people living in cities and will be able to lead the various types of urban activities as effective landmarks creating accessibility and representing perpetuity, as rehabilitated landscapes last through the passage of time. In addition, since historic and cultural landscape resources significantly represent regional identities and cultural characteristics that are protected and maintained, they may result in the succession of time and space in regional and urban historical culture and contribute to improving local images and impressions, allowing citizens and tourists to experience many diverse historic and cultural environments. The underlying scheme on the development of '40 Stair Cultural Street' in the study has been drawn up with a focus on the rehabilitation of modern historic value drawn out of the 40 stairs. The area around the 40 stairs, which was shaped as a stronghold of refugees who fled for safety during the Korean War, has changed as dramatically as people can no longer get a feel of the circumstances of that period. Local historians and residents, however, still share the joys and sorrows of refugee life as sad memories. Based on the historical fact, landscape planting, street furniture, outdoor color schemes & signage, traffic systems, symbolic 3-D models and pavement designs are underway.

Vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials: principle and clinical findings

Vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPs) are useful for evaluating the vestibulocollic reflex arising mostly from the saccule and the vestibuloocular reflex originating from the utricle. VEMPs can vary with the characteristics of the applied stimuli and the effects of aging and diseases. VEMPs have been found to be useful for diagnosing superior canal dehiscence, but their usefulness for other clinical disorders remains unclear. This review discusses the principles of VEMP tests and summarizes the findings for VEMPs in common vestibular disorders.

Myofascial release therapy has been greatly distributed for health promotion and reinforcement of skin elasticity. 1bis study fulfilled the physiologic variation on body types by myofacial release therapy. Materials for myofascial release therapy, that is partial body fat measuring tool, subcutaneous fat measuring tool were measured three times to minimize the source of error, which was recorded to be mean value. In the variation rate of body fat and subcutaneous fat in myofascial release therapy it decreased 2.74mm, 3.26 in scapular, 3.84mm, 3.34% in spine, and 3.30mm, 3.42% in lumbar regions, 3.23mm, 3.10% in the regions above abdomen and 3.24mm, 3.21 % in below abdomen, 1.69mm, 2.39% in thigh and 1.06mm, 1.67 % in arm, respectively. For the physiological aesthetic effects, both body fat and subcutaneous fat in the experiment group and the control group manifested the significant difference in scapular, spine, and lumbar regions, the regions above abdomen and below abdomen, thigh and arm(p<0.05). From the results above, the effects on myofascial release therapy was more plausible than the general massage. Therefore myofascial release therapy will have great influence on health improvement, skin elasticity, and body shape. In order to increase the effect of myofascial release therapy, developing the education program is desperately needed .
