This study was conducted to investigate the effects of the addition of activated charcoal (AC) and oak charcoal on the ruminal fermentation characteristics, nutrient utilization in Korean native goats. Compared to reference diet, digestibility of dry matter, and crude protein in AC and charcoal diets tended to incraese. However, any tendency in ruminal degradation of crude fat was not observed. Ruminal degradation of NDF in AC diets tended to be more increased than that in non-AC diet. Although it was not significant, ADF tended to be increased in AC and charcoal diets. AC and charcoal did not affect the ruminal pH and ammonia-N. Concentration of total VFA and butyrate tended to be increased by adding AC and charcoal(p<0.05). Although it was not significant, acetate/propionate ratio tended to decreased in AC and charcoal diets. Although there appeared some beneficial effects in adding AC and charcoal to ruminant diets in this study, more works could be needed with AC before we can make clear conclusion on use of AC and charcoal in the ruminant diets.
Recent advances of diagnostic approaches for indeterminate biliary tract obstruction

Patients with indeterminate biliary stricture frequently pose a challenge in the clinical management. Discrimination between benign and malignant biliary strictures is important to prevent the morbidity and mortality associated with incorrect diagnoses. Traditional tissue sampling using endoscopic retrograde cholangiography does not always produce a definitive diagnosis, with a considerable proportion of cases remaining as indeterminate biliary strictures. Recent advances in endoscopic and molecular techniques have the potential to improve the diagnostic and prognostic accuracy of biliary strictures. This article reviews various etiologies of biliary strictures and discusses the recent advances of diagnostic approaches for indeterminate biliary tract obstruction.

This study was conducted to confirm various results obtained through cooling crystallization of HMX in a binary solvent of propylene carbonate and water. HMX is term derived from High Molecula-weight rdX and is widely used industrially. The solvent chosen for the HMX manufacturing process is a two-component solvent of PC and water. The binary solvent of PC and water was mainly composed of 80% PC and 90% PC. In addition, the initial concentration was determined according to the mass fraction of PC in the binary solvent of PC and water. The cooling crystallization of the HMX was controlled by controlling the degree of supersaturation, the driving force of crystallization. The recrystallized HMX crystals are in β-form. The recrystallized crystals were analyzed by SEM and optical microscope.
폴리머의 레이저 투과접합 시 접합부의 기계적 성질에 관한 연구

Laser Transmission Joining (LTJ) of plastics is a process in which light of suitable wavelength is transmitted through a transparent substrate that is in contact with an absorbing one. In this paper, LTJ is investigated by preliminary experiments from the viewpoint of mechanical engineering. To understand transmitting characteristics of each polymer substrate, transmission rate, reflection rate and absorption coefficient of polymer are measured by using a laser power-meter. Characteristics of joining in the spot welding and seam welding are investigated by measuring the fracture load. Fracture load increases in accordance to the laser power and irradiation time. However, when the laser power is over 60W and irradiation time over 4seconds, fracture load decreases. This phenomenon is probably due to heat-softening of materials. Besides, cavities are generated at a joint by evaporation of water molecules, which can be suppressed by introduction of a gap between two substrates.
