      • Study of IR imaging on PHBHx/PEG blend films

        In our previously work[1,2], biodegradable poly[(R)-3-hydroxybutyrate- co-(R)-3-hydroxyhexanoates]/poly(ethylene glycol) (PHBHx/PEG) blend films have been explore influence of PEG length and contents on PHBHx crystallization. In case of PEG having higher weight (Mn=3400), PHBHx and PEG were not fully miscible indicating that can form the domain. Therefore, to investigate relationship between the morphology and chemical information in PHBHx/PEG blend film, IR imaging was performed in this study.       • Development of reusable Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub>@TiO<sub>2</sub>-Au nanocomposites for effective methyl orange reduction

        One of the azo compounds, methyl orange(MO) is widely used in the industrial field and cause serious environmental pollution. Efforts to degrade MO have been carried out during past decades. Photocatalytic technique is considered to be the most promising wastewater treatment. Of the various photocatalytic materials, Au nanoparticles(NPs) have excellent catalytic efficiency. However, due to their high surface area, they form easily clusters, which leads to a reduction in catalyst efficiency. Therefore, supporting material is required to prevent AuNPs from forming clusters. Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub>NPs have magnetic properties and can easily be separated from water, so it can be used as a catalyst again. By applying this, it is expected the photocatalytic effect in the visible light region by adsorbing AuNPs on Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub>@TiO<sub>2</sub>NPs. In this study, physical properties of Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub>@TiO<sub>2</sub>-AuNPs were identified through TEM, XRD and XPS analysis and photocatalytic ability was confirmed by using UV and Raman spectroscopy.

      • Synthesis and Characterization of Silver Core Cu<sub>2</sub>O Shell Nanoparticles

        The electromagnetic enhancement (EM) effect, one of the SERS enhancement factors, has been extensively studied and proved to play a very important role in SERS enhancement. However, the EM effect alone can not explain the SERS enhancement phenomenon. Even with materials with similar Raman cross-sections, the signal of a substance that can be chemically adsorbed on the surface of metal nanoparticles (NP) has been greatly improved. Therefore, it is necessary to study the charge transfer (CT) between the substance and the metal NP surface. Semiconductors have an energy gap between the whole valence band and the vacant conduction band, which can help to understand the CT between the semiconductor nanomaterial and the molecule. In this study, Ag core Cu2O shell NP were synthesized and the characteristics of them were investigated by UV-Vis, Raman, XRD and XPS. Details on analysis of Ag@Cu2O NPs will be discussed in this presentation.

      • 2P-205 Identification of various bacteria on the modified SERS substrate

        Bacteria can be beneficial or harmful to humans depending on the species. Therefore, to prevent damages caused by biological attack, fast and accurate determination and identification of bacteria should be performed. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)is a powerful technique to detect biological reagent because it provides rapid and ultrasensitive detection with a large amount of fingerprint information for the identification of biological materials. In this study, the modified SERS substrate with silver or gold nanoparticles adsorbed onto glass is a tool that can accurately distinguish bacteria from small amounts without damage of the bacteria. Details on analysis of bacteria based on SERS will be discussed.

      • Study of Visible-light Responsive Reusable Photocatalyst

        Pure semiconductor photocatalyst works in the UV region. Heterostructures are well known to reduce the bandgap energy of semiconductors. Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub>@TiO<sub>2</sub>-Au structure is easy to reuse because it can be easily separated after use due to the strong magnetism of Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub>. In addition, the addition of TiO<sub>2</sub> and Au to Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub> nanoparticles reduces the bandgap energy, which enables catalysis in the visible region. In this study we fabricated Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub>@TiO<sub>2</sub>-Au microsphere. The properties of Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub>@TiO<sub>2</sub>-Au microsphere were investigated by TEM, EDX, XRD and XPS. The degradation of methyl orange (MO) was observed using UV-Vis and Raman spectroscopy. Details on its characterization and analysis will be discussed in this presentation.

        법정 담화의 부가의문문에 대한 영한 번역 전략

        This paper investigates the function of English tag questions in courtroom discourse and explores English-Korean translation strategies effective to acquire ‘functional equivalence’ by comparing a legal thriller Presumed Innocent with its three Korean translations. The general purpose of questions is for the speaker to ask the listener to provide new information about what he wants to know. In court discourse, however, questions are often used for the speaker (the prosecutor or the attorney) to present some information already known to him in front of the judge and/or the jurors on purpose and to ask the listener (witness) to confirm, agree, or acknowledge the information, in order to win the trial. English tag questions are a very useful tool for this function, but they are translated into Korean by using other structures since there are no tag questions in Korean. Therefore, this paper explores how to translate English tag questions in courtroom discourse, focusing on their functions.

        지명과 관사 사용의 함의: Ukraine 대 the Ukraine

        This paper aims to explore how the definite article is used in English place names or country names through the examples of ‘the Ukraine’ and ‘Ukraine’. Since names are inherently definite, they don’t need to be accompanied by a definite article except for plurals (the Netherlands) and combinations with a nationality adjective (the Republic of Korea) or other descriptive forms (the United Kingdom). Then, why is Ukraine described as both ‘Ukraine’ and ‘the Ukraine, and what does each name imply? First, ‘the Ukraine’ gives the impression that Ukraine has an incomplete exterior boundary and is under relatively little human influence. Second, from the viewpoint of critical toponymy, ‘the Ukraine’ reminds us of the domination of Imperial Russia and the Soviet Union in the past. Therefore, the English name ‘the Ukraine’ can be understood as an indicator of denying Ukraine as an independent sovereign nation, acknowledging that it is a part of Russia, and, on the contrary, using the term ‘Ukraine’ can be understood as an indicator of acknowledging and supporting Ukraine as an independent sovereign nation.

        범죄소설에 사용된 외국어의 번역전략: 서사적 기능을 중심으로

        This paper analyzes how foreign words used in English crime fictions have been translated into Korean, focusing on their narrative function. In crime fictions, foreign words can be used as essential clues to find out the identity of the criminal(s) and reveal the whole story. They can create and maintain suspense and contribute to develop the plot. For them, translators tend to choose among three strategies: first, leaving the foreign words untranslated, second, adding translation or explanation near the foreign words, and third, translating the foreign words into the target language. When analyzing multiple Korean translation versions of A Study in Scarlet, Murder on the Orient Express, and Angles and Demons, it has been found out that most versions used the first or the second strategies. Namely, the foreign words in the three novels were mostly translated in the way that they remained in the target texts. As a result, the Korean versions maintained the narrative structure and emotional experiences the source texts had. On the other hand, when the third strategy was used, that is, the foreign words in the source texts were translated into target languages, the original narrative effect of the source texts were diminished or distorted.
