목적 : Amiodarone은 효과가 훌륭한 항부정맥 약제이나 여러 부작용으로 사용이 제한되는 약제로서, 대표적으로 갑상선 기능 이상을 초래한다. Amiodarone에 의한 갑상선 기능 이상에 대한 여러 연구에 있어서 보면 다양한 결과를 보여주고 있다. 본 연구에서는 amio-darone을 복용하는 한국인 환자에서 갑상선 기능 이상의 종류와 빈도 및 갑상선 기능 이상을 보이는 환자들의 임상적 특징을 비교하였다. 방법 : 본 연구에서는 이전에 갑상선 질환 Background : Amiodarone is an effective antiarrhythmic agent, but it is used restrictively due to several side effects. 담배에서 human papil1omavirus-18형 E6(HPV-18 E6) oncogene을 발현시키기 위하여 E6 유전자를 Cauliflower mosaic virus(CaMV)의 35S dual promoter와 tobacco etch virus(TEV) 5'-untranslated region의 조절을 받도록 벡터를 제조한 후, Agrobacterium-mediated leaf disc 방법으로 담배에 도입하였다. Kanamycin 저항성을 갖는 형질전환체를 선별하고, 완전한 식물체로 재생한 형질전환체의 잎조직에 대하여 PCR 방법과 Northem blot, Westem blot 분석을 한 결과, HPV-18 E6 유전자가 형질전환체 담배에서 성공적으로 발현됨을 알 수 있었다. To develop a HPV-18 oral vaccine, HPV-18 E6 gene was cloned into an expression vector, under the control of CaMV 35S dual promoter and 5'UT region of TEV. The constructed vector (pUS-E6) was used to transform tobacco plants by the Agrobacterium-mediated leaf disc method. The transformants were then regenerated to whole transgenic plants. The HPV-18 E6 gene was found to be expressed in the transgenic tobacco plants as determined by PCR, RT-PCR, Northern analysis and Western analysis. These results show a possibility that HPV oral vaccine may be developed by expressing the HPV proteins in tomato or other vegetables.

N/A Background: Tachyarrhythmias have various clinical features according to their tachycardia rates, systolic function of the left ventricle, the origin site and the mechanisms. Atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) and atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia (AVRT) might cause different hemodynamic changes due to their different mechanisms. Methods: To evaluate the hemodynamic differences of supraventricular tachycardias, atrial tachycardia (atrial pacing with AOO mode, 180/min, group I), AVRT (VA pacing interval 80 msec with DOO mode, 180/min, group II) and AVNRT (VA pacing interval 0 msec, 25 msec with DOO mode, 180/ min, group III) were simulated in eleven dogs. Hemodynamic parameters were systemic arterial pressure including systolic, mean and diastolic arterial pressure (SAP, MAP, DAP respectively), mean pulmonary arterial wedge pressure (MPAWP) and cardiac output (CO). Results: The MAP was highest in group I (87.0±20.4mmHg) and decreased with decreasing VA interval of no significance. The SAP was higher in group II (109.8±22.6mmHg) than in group III (95.3±27.1mmHg) (p <0.05). The level of MPAWP had no significant differences among three groups and showed no peculiar pattern with changes of VA interval. The CO was higher in group I (1.18 ±0.32 L/ min) than in other two groups with significant difference (p <0.01) and decreased with shortening of VA interval without significance. Conclusion: Above result s suggested that the AVRT and AVNRT have different effects on hemodynamic changes, those from different timing of atrial contraction, especially on SAP and CO. So hemodynamic compromise during tachycardia could be more severe in AVNRT than in AVRT inspite of their similar QRS morphology and tachycardia rate.(Korean J Med 62:35- 41, 2002)

Background : Many investigators have found transforming growth factor-${\beta}1$ (TGF-${\beta}1$) to be elevated in tumors. Changes in responsiveness to TGF-${\beta}1$ have been linked to malignant transformation, tumor progression and tumor regression. Many malignant cell lines of epithelial or hematopoietic origin are refractory to the antiproliferative effects of TGF-${\beta}1$. However, a little is known about the association of TGF-${\beta}1$ with progression of malignant tumor. Methods : In this study, we measured the plasma level of TGF-${\beta}1$ in various cancer patients and evaluated the utility of plasma TGF-${\beta}1$ as a possible tumor marker. Plasma TGF-${\beta}1$ levels were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in cancer patients and normal controls. Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) as tumor marker were compared with TGF-${\beta}1$ in the aspects of sensitivity and specificity. Results : The mean of plasma TGF-${\beta}1$ levels was $1.219{\pm}0.834ng/ml$ in normal controls, $5.491{\pm}3.598ng/ml$ in breast cancer, $12.670{\pm}10.386ng/ml$ in lung cancer, $5.747{\pm}3.228ng/ml$ in hepatocellular carcinoma and $10.854{\pm}7.996ng/ml$ in cervical cancer. In comparison with CEA and AFP, TGF-${\beta}1$ is more sensitive. Conclusion : We conclude that the high levels of TGF-${\beta}1$ are common in the plasma of cancer patients. These results suggest that the plasma TGF-${\beta}1$ level can be a potent tumor marker in various cancer patients.
