        The Effect of Social Capital on Medical Care Use by the Elderly : The Concept of Health Congruence

        It is widely known that the medical cost for the elderly severely threatens the stability of national health insurance system. We investigated the impact of social capital on the medical care use by the elderly. The concept of health congruence, the conformity between objective and subjective health status, was used as a mediator affected by the social capital, and determines the medical use of the elderly in turn. Respondents from HAPS (Hallym ageing panel study) data were separated into healthy and unhealthy group by their objective health status, and subdivided into congruent (good and poor health realist) and incongruent (good health pessimist and poor health optimist) group by whether their health congruence had been achieved. After controlling for socioeconomic, health-related, and supplier-related variables, health congruence turned out to influence the efficiency of medical care use regardless of the health status, and social capital improves healthy elderly’s health congruence, which prevents unnecessary visit to medical institutions. Nevertheless, we should thoroughly take the level of social capital and features of subject into consideration before adopting social capital as a policy instrument aimed for the elderly.

        스토리텔링을 활용한 생명과학활동이 유아의 생명과학개념과 생명체 친화적 태도에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 스토리텔링을 활용한 생명과학활동이 유아의 생명과학개념과 생명체 친화적 태도에 미치는 영향을 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 G군에 위치한 S어린이집에 재원 중인 만 5세 유아 38명(실험집단, 20명, 비교집단 18명)이었다. 실험집단은 8주 동안 주 2회 총 16회기 생명과학주제의 스토리를 듣고 생명과학적 문제를 해결해나가는 스토리텔링 활동에 참여하였고 같은 기간 비교집단은 생명과학 관련 게임활동에 참여하였다. 스토리텔링을 활동한 생명과학활동의 교육 효과를 검증하기 위하여, 활동 전·후에 두 집단 유아들을 대상으로 생명과학개념과 생명체 친화적 태도 검사를 실시하였고, 수집된 자료는 SPSS 21.0 프로그램을 이용하여 공변량분석(ANCOVA)을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 스토리텔링을 활용한 생명과학활동에 참여한 실험집단이 비교집단보다 생명과학개념과 생명체 친화적 태도에서 더 많이 향상되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 유아교육현장에서 유아의 생명과학개념과 생명체 친화적 태도의 향상을 돕기 위한 교수학습 방법으로 스토리텔링을 활용한 생명과학활동이 활용될 가치가 있음을 시사한다. The purpose of the present study was to investigate effects of life science activity utilizing storytelling on young children s life science concept and pro-life attitude. The subjects of study were 38 children aged 5 years. Testing tools used include a testing of a young children s life science concept tool produced by Kim Hee-young (2014) and a pro-life attitude testing tool modified, adapted and restructured by Kim Mi-sun (2016) based on The Children s Attitudes Toward the Environment Scale-Preschool Version produced by Musser and Diamond (1999). An analysis of covariance(ANCOVA) was conducted on collected data using SPSS 21.0 program to verify effects of life science activity utilizing storytelling on a young children s life science concept and pro-life attitude. The results of the study were as follow. As a result of verifying effects of life science activity utilizing storytelling, the experimental group turned out to have had significantly higher scores than the comparative group both in the whole of young children s life science concept and its sub areas, such as characteristics and kind of life, structure and function of life, relationship between life and surrounding environment, and cycle of life. Besides, the experimental group obtained significantly higher scores than the comparative group did in young children s pro-life attitude. The study results suggests that life science activity utilizing storytelling can improve a young children s life science concept and pro-life attitude the activity may be a meaningful method of continues to develop in the field of education.
