냉동 치료의 장점은 비침습적이며 통증이 없고 재치료가 가능하기 때문에 수술 고위험군, 재발환자 등에서 국소암 치료로서 적용될 수 있다는 점이다. 외부영상과 굴곡내시경을 통하여 위치를 파악하고 내시경으로 표적부위만을 냉동하기 때문에 주변조직의 손상이 거의 없으며 심폐 기능에 큰 위험을 주지 않는다. 처음 치료 후에도 치료를 한 부위나 다른 부위에도 여러 번의 추가적 치료가 가능하므로 치료로 불완전한 부분을 추가적으로 치료를 하여 좋은 결과를 얻을 수 있다. 냉동 수술의 특성을 잘 이용하여 적절한 환자에게 적용한다면, 기관-기관지의 폐색을 일으키는 악성 종양 환자들에게 좋은 치료방법의 하나라고 생각된다. Cryosurgery is a safe method for palliation of endobronchial malignancies causing airway obstruction. Due to its simplicity and effectiveness for controlling bleeding, endobronchial cryosurgery is considered to be a good method that is clinically applicable to a malignant endobronchial tumor. In cases with stenosis caused by an endoluminal tumor, cryo-recanalization with a cryoprobe was immediately effective in most of the patients. A novel technique described by Hetzel in 2004 to achieve rapid recanalization of central airway obstruction with endobronchial cryoprobe. Cryorecanalization technique is feasible and offers many advantages in the interventional therapy of malignant intraluminal tumors of the respiratory tract.

Optimum compositions for piezoelectric properties of $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})_{(1-x)}Ba_xTiO_3$ ceramics were investigated in the range of $x=0{\sim}0.1$ covering rhombohedral to tetragonal phase regions. No impurity phases other than a perovskite phase were found and the grain size decreased with increasing x. A two-phase coexisting morphotropic phase area rather than boundary dividing rhombohedral and tetragonal phase regions appeared to exist at $x=0.05{\sim}0.08$. As for piezoelectric properties within morphotropic phase compositions, the piezoelectric constant ($d_{33}$) and the electromechanical coupling factor ($K_p$) showed peak values at x=0.065, 192 pC/N and 34%, respectively, indicating x=0.065 as an optimum composition for piezoelectric $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})_{(1-x)}Ba_xTiO_3$ ceramics.

Nb was doped to Pb-free $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ (BNT) by a solid state mixing process to form $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})Ti_{1-x}Nb_xO_3\;(x=0{\sim}0.05)$ (BNTNb) and its doping effects on ferroelectric and piezoelctric properties of BNT were investigated. The BNTNb solid solutions were formed up to x=0.01 with no apparent second phases while grain sizes decreased. As x increased, coercive field ($E_c$) and mechanical quality factor ($Q_m$) decreased but piezoelectric constant ($d_{33}$) increased, which indicates Nb acts as a donor for BNT.

Pb(Zr,Ti)$O_3$ (PZT) based ceramics with superior piezoelectric properties have been extensively used in various domestic and industrial appliances. However, PZT ceramics causing environmental contamination and health problems need to be eventually replaced by any of Pb-free materials. $(Na_{0.53}K_{0.47})(Nb_{1-x}Ta_x)O_3$ (NKNT), one of Pb-free piezoelectric ceramics, has long been known but its properties are not fully understood and developed. In this study, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of Pb-free NKNT ceramics were studied with Ta substitution for B-site at x = 0~0.6. It was found that polymorphic phase transition (PPT) between orthorhombic and tetragonal phases was notably influenced by Ta substitution. The highest piezoelectric coefficient ($d_{33}$) of 284 pC/N was occurred at x = 0.45.

Nowadays a huge variety of products that aim to assist to quit smoking or reduce addictive symptoms are developed and manufactured with safety evaluation, but the safety of the most recent products of interest which do not contain tobacco and nicotine, and shape cigarettes is not evaluated and guaranteed relatively. This study was carried out to evaluate the single and repeated dose inhalation toxicity and genotoxicity of H menthol (Nicotine free-tobacco free) herbal cigarettes provided by Cigastop Ltd. in ICR mice. In this study, doses which we determined to expose to mice were 40 cigarettes for 6 hours a day to mice in single dose and 20 (high dose), 10 (middle dose) and 5 cigarettes (low dose) a day for 28 days in repeated dose inhalation toxicity, in vivo chromosome aberration test and micronucleus test. The particulate substances from H menthol herbal cigarettes also were gathered and used in the Salmonella typhimurium/microsome assay (Salmonella test; Ames<br/> test). We could find neither significant changes between control and treatment groups nor dose-response effects of test material at all except serum Ca level of female middle dose treatment group in repeated dose inhalation toxicity test. In conclusion, H menthol herbal cigarettes, when applied clinically intended dose we used, might not show any toxic and/or mutagenic effect.

To evaluate the modifying effect of Kwao Kreu, Pueraria mirifica (PM) well-known as a rejuvenating folk medicine from Thailand, peri- and post-natal studies were carried out in rats. PM extract was administered to pregnant Sprague Dawley (SD) rats by oral gavage from gestation 6 (GD 6) to postnatal day 21 (PND 21). The amount of administered in this study was 0.042, 0.42 and 4.2 mg/kg/day, respectively. There were no treatment related changes of dams in deaths, clinical signs, and parturition. Treatment related changes in body weight, food consumption and lactation of dams were not observed. F1 fetuses in external abnormality, physical development, reflex/sensory functions and behavioral development were not found. No adults and F1 fetuses in organ weight was found with the exception of vagina and uterus of F1 fetuses. The results showed that PM extract, up to 4.2 mg, had no adverse effects on the peri- and post-natal development of rats. Therefore, PM extract has no adverse effects on peri- and post-natal development of rats.

Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) is a chronic disease related to human papillomavirus infection. The standard treatment of RRP is surgical resection of the lesion, but due to frequent recurrence, a combination of various adjuvant therapies has been attempted. Herein, we present the first case of RRP to whom intravenous cidofovir was administered as an adjuvant therapy in Korea. A 9-year-old boy was admitted due to hoarseness, stridor and breathing difficulty. At 10 months of age, he was diagnosed with RRP in the upper airway and thereafter he had repeatedly undergone surgical removal. During this hospitalization, papilloma was found again from the superior glottis to the inferior glottis and surrounding the trachea at the age of 9 years. In addition, well-defined nodular lesions were newly found on both lung fields, and a pathologic examination revealed a squamous papilloma with high-grade dysplasia, human papilloma virus types 6, 11, and 40 (low-risk type). Because of the frequent recurrence of papilloma in the upper airway as well as lung involvement, he underwent 38 injections of intravenous cidofovir for 2 years. During treatment, the intervals required for surgical removal of the mass causing upper airway obstruction were prolonged from an average of 37.3 to 74.6 days without serious side effects. However, intravenous cidofovir treatment had no effect on the lung lesion. This case shows that an intravenous cidofovir administration can be used as an adjuvant therapy in a child with RRP to relieve the upper airway obstruction, although this treatment does not cure the disease.
