        Propagation and Absorption of Electromagnetic Waves in Inhomogeneous Helicon Plasmas with a Lower Hybrid Resonance Layer

        Propagation and absorption of radiofrequency waves are numerically studied for radially inhomogeneous helicon plasmas with a lower hybrid resonance layer. The rf power is absorbed outside the resonance layer and the peak absorption occurs near the resonance at a low collision frequency. As the collision frequency increases, the absorption peak moves toward the plasma boundary. The plasma resistance is examined as functions of the density and the magnetic field. The density giving a high plasma resistance is proportional to the magnetic field for a wide range of the magnetic field, including the lower hybrid resonance, if the density profile is sufficiently steep.

        A New Genus, Parkiana Cho, gen. nov. (Lepidoptera: Lecithoceridae) from Madagascar, with Descriptions of Two New Species

        A new genus Parkiana Cho, gen. nov., belonging to Torodorinae of Lecithoceridae, is described from Madagascar, with two new species: P. matutinalis Cho & Agassiz, sp. nov. and P. andasibensis Cho & Agassiz, sp. nov. Although superficially similar to Thubdora Park, 2018, some of their morphological characters, such as wing venation, are unique and the species of the genus are grouped apart from Thubdora in a preliminary phylogenetic analysis based on COI barcode sequences. In addition to the specific descriptions, adults and genitalia for the two new species are illustrated.

        Molecular Identification of Adoxophyes honmai (Yasuda) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) Based on Mitochondrial COI Gene Sequences

        Molecular identification techniques are used where morphological characters are not useful for distinguishing species that resemble each other closely. The example studied here is the Adoxophyes species complex, in which A. orana (Fischer von Rösslerstamm) is officially the only known Korean species in the genus Adoxophyes (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae). However there have been suspicions that at least two types of A. orana exist in Korea based on the distribution and range of the host, with A. orana attacking apples and peaches, and another Adoxophyes sp. attacking tea and pears. The latter is presumed to be A. honmai (Yasuda), but the two have remained confused because of their extreme morphological similarity, despite several Asian studies of pheromonal and morphological characteristics. To confirm the occurrence of an Adoxophyes species other than A. orana in Korea, we compared 940 bp of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene from 16 samples of Adoxophyes and found that there is a second Adoxophyes species different from A.orana. Comparison of the different sequences to that of Japanese A. honmai confirmed that they belong to the latter. From the sequence difference between the two Korean species, we were able to develop new PCR primer sets that distinguish them. This molecular identification technique with no enzyme digestion or sequencing step is a convenient and rapid way of differentiating between species that are hard to distinguish morphologically.

        Mechanism of Herbal­ Acupuncture of Clematis Mandshurica Maxim. Water Extractby Stimulation of Sinsu loci Subcutaneouslyas Dual Inhibitor of Proinflammatory Cytokines on Adjuvant Arthritis in Rats.

        Objective : Based on immunological mechanisms, this study examined whether subcutaneous (s.c.) injection of Clematis mandshurica Maxim. water extract (CMA) has anti-inflammatory effects, and its effect on TNF-α, IL-1 and IL-10 release from synoviocytes on adjuvant arthritis (AA) in the rat. Methods : Complete Freund's adjuvant was used to induce AA in rats. Synoviocytes were separated by the method of collagenase and DNase digestion. Synoviocytes proliferation was assayed by 3-(4, 5 dimethylthiazol 2 yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. TNF-α, IL-1 and interleukin-10 (IL-10) production of synoviocytes was measured with ELISA. The expression of IL-10 mRNA of synoviocytes was determined using RT PCR. Results : There were significant secondary inflammatory reactions in AA rats, accompanied by the decrease of body and immune organs weight simultaneously. Synoviocytes proliferation of AA rats significantly increased, and the levels of TNF-α and IL-1 in supernatants of synoviocytes in AA rats were also elevated compared with the sham group. The administration of CMA (2, 5, 10 mg/kg, s.c.) reduced the above changes significantly. In contrast to TNF-α and IL-1, IL-10 production and the level of its mRNA of synoviocytes in AA rats apparently decreased. CMA (2, 5, 10 mg/kg, s.c.) markedly increased IL-10 in synoviocytes at protein and transcription level. Conclusion : The results indicate that CMA has a beneficial effect on rat AA due to modulating inflammatory cytokine production of synoviocytes, which play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of this disease.         헬리콘 플라즈마에서 이온 펌핑 효과의 영향에 대한 수치적 해석 연구

        The global balance model is applied to investigate the transient behavior of the electron density and temperature in helicon plasmas. The power absorption calculated from the solutions of the Maxwell equations is used in solving the power balance equation. A balance model for the neutral gas is also considered to fins its density self-consistently. It is turned out that the numerical results reasonably explain consequences of the ion pumping effect including the occurrence of two distinct modes of pulsed helicon discharge which have been observed experimentally. The behavior of the discharge parameters are fond to be primarily dependent on the power absorption and the gas flow rate, but the pressure controls the electron density and temperature of the final steady state as well as the transient state even with the same flow rate. Finally, it is shown that the electron density virtually the linear relationship between the density and the magnetic field is retained for a higher pressure when the effect of the ion pumping is negligible.

        오적산 보험 엑스산제의 품질평가 연구

        Objectives : This study was performed to analyze the quality of Ojeok-san extract powders distributed in Korea. Methods : HPLC analyses of Ojeok-san decoction produced in laboratory and 8 kinds of Ojeok-san extract powders were done. Also, quantity analyses of paeoniflorin in Paeonia lactiflora, Glycyrrhizin in Glycyrrhiza uralensis, alkaloid in Ephedra sinica, Hesperidin in Citrus unshiu Markovich, and cinnamic acid in Cinnamomum cassia Blume were performed to investigate the accurate content of 6 kinds of Ojeok-san extract powders. Results : In the pattern analysis, the peaks were compared. The content of components in herbal extract powders was 14.7 to 15.8% of that of decoction in average. The range was measured from 8.5 to 25.7%. The pattern comparison showed significant differences among the pharmaceutical companies’ products. As for the quantity analysis, one of herbal extract powder contained insufficient amount of Paeonia lactiflora components and one of herbal extract powder was in short of Ephedra sinica components. All of the others contained more than standard component(over 90%). Conclusions : Because herbal extract powders are also medicine, standardized manufacturing methods and consistent quality management are necessary. Therefore exaction and operation of national standards and various researches to improve the quality management of herbal extract powders is urgent.

        In the utilization of solar energy most often a flat solar collector is used for solar heating, system. Since solar energy is absorbed through this solar collector, it is considered to be a most important part in the whole solar heating system. The purpose of the present investigation is to evaluate the influence of varying design parameters for thermal performances of flat-plate solar collector. By analysing these parameters, optimum design of solar collector would become possible. Specification of the existing solar collector are utilized in calculation as a starting point. Analysis is carried out numerically for "Unit Solar Collector" which is composed of fin and tube. Among design parameters. such parameters as mass flow rate per unit area, tube spacing and fin thickness are selected as variables in the computer simulation model. Results are presented for thermal performances of flat-plate solar collector for each important design parameters, so that predictions become possible through numerical analysis without performing experiments whenever it is required. required.

        Propagation and Damping of Electromagnetic Waves in Non-Maxwellian Plasmas near the Ion Cyclotron Frequency

        In radio-frequency heating of plasmas, the launched wave undergoes tunneling, reflection, mode conversion, and damping near the resonance layer. The single-pass scattering parameters can be estimated from the mode conversion tunneling equation, which has been previously studied for Maxwellian plasmas. In this work, the mode conversion tunneling analysis is extended to include non-Maxwellian velocity distributions near the ion cyclotron frequency. The derived wave equation is applied to analyze propagation and damping in the minority heating regime with the distribution functions obtained from the Fokker-Plank equation. Additionally, the effects of the velocity distribution, in comparison with an approximate Maxwellian distribution, are investigated.
